Fight Club and Die Hard for me. Apparently Fight club will have a dts track, which is worth the double dip as i only have the single disc release. But will Die hard have dts? I love these steelbooks; these will look nice next to the robocop and the departed steelbooks.

Believe it or not, I'm buying Alien Vs Predator. I already own Fight Club, Die Hard, X2, Predator, The Abyss and Alien.
Yeah, but I bet The Abyss still isn't anamorphic...
I'm not sure, but these may be remastered. The recent R2 Definitive Edition of Fight Club had the audio errors removed and a better picture. Perhaps there's a little bit of hope for The Abyss.
I will buy "the day after tomorrow". Also, I don't think all of then will be steel book. Some, like "I,Robot", "Alien", and "AVP" will be the single disc with a lenticular slip cover
Come to think of it, I already own AVP, but the audio is all messed up so I'll buy the new release.
Great covers but to bad I own most of these already.
What is a steelbook?

just look at the pictures for castaway, day after tomorrow and die hard to name a few, check the spine specificaly ..notice the case...its a new format for dvd cases, its a little thinner than the normal cases but its made of some kinda of hard plastic/metal...they're very hard and sturdy...
when i bought underworld 2, i was given a free steelbook case for it and i gotta say i was impressed, i'm glad to see more movies are being released this way....let's hope this is the beginning of all releases using this

I think that these are the new lenticular slip covers for the standard single disc dvds:
"The Abyss"
"Alien"
"AVP: Alien vs. Predator"
"Independance Day"
"I, Robot"
"Predator"
and then these are the new steel books which are the Two-Disc Special Editions of the movies:
"Cast Away"
"The Day After Tomorrow"
"Die Hard"
"Fight Club"
"Man on Fire"
"The Omen"
"X2: X-Men United"
"The Abyss"
"Alien"
"AVP: Alien vs. Predator"
"Independance Day"
"I, Robot"
"Predator"
and then these are the new steel books which are the Two-Disc Special Editions of the movies:
"Cast Away"
"The Day After Tomorrow"
"Die Hard"
"Fight Club"
"Man on Fire"
"The Omen"
"X2: X-Men United"

Right up there with "True Lies" and "Broken Arrow".

I wonder if there will ever come a good edition of The Abyss. The picture quality on the DVD is terrible. It will probably be the same with this new steel case.

There are anamorphic versions of those films to be found outside of the US. I think Matt was saying that there are no anamorphic versions of The Abyss at all.

Right... The Abyss to the best of my knowledge isn't available in anamorphic widescreen anywhere. I think the Australian disc is the only way to get True Lies anamorphic and probably will be until a Blu-ray version is released. My girlfriend recently picked up the Arnold Schwarzenegger Celebrity Pack that contains True Lies, Commando, and Predator, and according to the packaging all three films are anamorphic. Surprise, surprise...Fox screwed up their packaging again like they did with The Abyss a little while back when they mistakenly labeled the movie anamorphic. Neither True Lies or Commando are anamorphic and Predator is, get this, pan & scan. Of course she doesn't care about all that, but if I had bought it I'd of been majorly pissed...kind of like I was when I bought the mistakenly labeled Abyss and had to fight like hell to explain to the clerk at Best Buy why I wanted to return it after it'd been opened.

The same thing happened to me when I bought the Darren Aronofsky collention that had "Pi" and "Requiem for a Dream" that had "Pi" listed as being enhance for 16X9 tvs. It wasn't.

The steelbook case for Ultimate Versus was so much better then all of these.
Count me in for the Fight Club steelbook.
I like Cast Away and Man On Fire. I had a steel book case for boondock saint but I had to sell it and bought the regular keep case. The disc was next to impossible to remove without breaking the disc.
Not sure if the box art is worth the double dip, since I own most of the ones I like anyway. The art definitely is nice though, for most of them. I don't like the Predator one though.
Getting Fight Club for sure. I own the single disc but I'll double dip for the the extras and steelbook case.
The Day After Tomorrow and Man on Fire are the only movies I like and don't own yet. But depending on if any of these have new transfers of anything (Abyss anamorphic would be nice, Fox!) I might pick them up. Who knows. Some of them I am even a big enough fan of to consider buying just as collector's items. Time will tell, though.
PS: Predator isn't pan and scan, it's open matte. Compare the scene where they roll Blaine's corpse over...in the widescreen version the dummy is mostly out of frame, I don't like the way it looks.

The UK DVD is anamorphic (but cut) and the Japanese edition with DTS is anamorphic too.

Maybe so, but the widescreen version is how it was filmed, how it was originally shown in theatres and how the filmmakers meant it to be seen.
Loving the new Fight Club cover. Does anyone know if AVP is going to be the unrated cut or the theatrical release?

Am I the only one who thinks steelbooks are incredibly stupid?
Are you seriously going to double dip on a DVD simply because of a case? I own most of these already and I'm perfectly happy with the ones I have. I'm not going to shell out more money just to have a harder and more sturdy case. To me, it's pointless.

Yep it's a gimmick.

Isn't this like the third or fourth version of "I, Robot" to come out in R1?
The new fight Club and Man on Fire steelbook covers looks awsome, but I already own the 2 disc SEs for both.
For me, I'll pick up the Omen steelbook and the re-issued Abyss, lenticular cover verion).
The Alien cover looks incredibly stupid aswell IMO, and I can't believe Fox is re-releasing Independance Day again!!! I liked the movie, but come on- this is the 5th time they've released it(standard DVD[Full and Widescreen], The Five Star Collection, The Limited Edition, and the Special Edition!

I already own all of these except for "The Omen" but if "The Abyss" is anamorphic and "Fight Club" has a DTS track I might have to pick those up. If not then I will just stick with the ones I have.

That's because "Predator" was shot in a 1.37:1 ratio and then matted to a 1.85:1 picture for the theater.
