At first, seeing the advertisements, I knew, I just KNEW this film would suck. I was torn to pieces knowing the beloved classic was getting washed on by a cruddy '11 remake. However, after such positive feedback and a boring Monday afternoon, I decided, what the hell. I paid $7.50 for the 3D matinee and I must say, I was completely wrong on every account. This was a good film and everything was just there. The characters, the story, shoot, even the 3D. People say the 3D was too dark. I disagree. I thought the 3D was just right, serving as a field of depth rather than a flat out gimmick. Even with the gimmicks, few and far between, fared well and showcased the great use of 3D. Overall, a nice movie.
This newer version didn't really catch my attention. And the new ones are never as good as the original so...
awful cover. Imogen Poots, who is GORGEOUS, looks awful. lol. this movie was very forgettable and i hate to say that because the entire cast is AWESOME! a couple of cool moments here and there but an empty, soulless remake (and i'm not against remakes whatsoever).
@Horrorfan25, is it really only $7.50 for a 3D matinee where you live?! i'm envious. where i live a matinee 3D movie is $11.50!!!

I hope they release it in time for Halloween. I like the cover art on the 3D box.
Hopefully, they'll also put out a blu-ray of the original.
Not a fan of the DVD/Blu-Ray covers. The 3D got the best deal. If the studio knows what's good for them, they will rush this out in time for an October release.
As for the film itself, I would definitely recommend. Being a pretty big fan of the original, I have no shame in saying this remake damn-near came close to being just as good, but in a different way entirely. The film is effective because it veers into new territory while also respecting (and serving as a tribute to) the original. Also, might I add - there is not a single bad egg in the cast. The performances were all fantastic.

I love the original and was surprised this remake was actually good. Did not deserve to bomb like it did. Especially when a lot of c**ppy horror remakes do much better.

Haha. Hey dj! And yes it is, but the theater is not nearly as nice as the other ones in my neighborhood. I go to see all the big summer blockbusters or action movies in my nicer theaters around, but as for any movie, yeah, I usually head to the $7.50 3D matinee or $4.50 2D.

Didn't like the movie, but I'm glad that they squeezed in a cameo by Sarandon. The entire tone of the movie was flat out weird to me. Just re-watch the scene where Jerry asks Charlie for beers and is standing in the doorway. It's almost like he wants to seduce him with his whole "HEY GUY" line. Everyone in my theater was completely bewildered by that scene.

what about the stuff with charlie and evil threatening him with the nerd videos they made? All that was a little much for me, weird indeed.

The release date is December 13 and the original is coming out that day as well. DVD Active didn't get the memo?

Doubt it. My guess is sometime in late November.

What has it been said the original is coming out other than on that "only 5000 copies" thing ?
LOL anchor bay used to always do those "limited DVDs" I doubt they'll go away too soon. It would still be cool to have ine tho
I really enjoyed this one, loads better than the original. Everyone was perfect in their role, with the highlight being Collin Farrell as a vampire.
Nice artwork too, I just hate the borders on the Blu-ray releases.

It is, but it's limited to 3000 copies and cost a bomb. Bloody useless.
I wanted to see this, but it was only showing in 3D where I live and I refuse to pay the uplift. It vanished after about a week as well.

Enjoyed the film quite a bit. It's also better than the original. It's just a fun film and David Tennant is awesome!!!!
Enjoyed this for what it was, one of the better remakes of a classic movie I love. The casting seemed great and the weird moments just added to the feel of the film similarly to the original. It's suppose to be odd and a bit uncomfortable. All I am saying is it could have been FAR worse then it turned out to be.
Fright Night On Script Level Was FAR BETTER Than Transformers Dark Of Moon
Man, I loved this one. Can't wait to see this again. Wish the 3D artwork was for the normal BD though.
I finally saw this and as I feared it wasn't a patch on the original. It felt like there was a huge chunk of the plot missing. Almost zero character development just so they could get to the vampire (even starting the film with a vamp attack) and none of the subtlety of the original. The effects weren't even particularly good, just the usual generic 'vamp out' CGI faces. Evil Ed was hardly in it, Charley was a dick, Jerry was more of a wild animal than a suave seducer. Disappointing.

Also they need to take Warner brothers advice and make the DVD copy a digital copy disc as well, saves discs and clutter big time. Why waste so many discs and jack up the price? LOL or did I just answer my own question?
