I had one of the originals with the stupid closed caption subs and when they had a recall to replace these dvd's with a standard english subtitle stream, I applied through the DVD store I bought the original to get a replacement which they did send me - to only discover I got the original one! 2 discs now with the horrid closed captions....
Can't wait for this one!
Can't wait for this one!

I originally bought the horrible R1 DreamWorks edition with c**ppy cover and no english subtitles and I recently bought the limited R2-Japanese tin which fooled us into believing we would actually get a full bitrate, DTS and subtitled feature all in one disc...
Anyway, I hope this is the last time I will have to buy a DVD of this otherwise excellent film.
I'm slightly confused. Why would DreamWorks release a region one disc with no English subtitles in a predominantly English-speaking territory?
It wasn't that there were no English subs, just that the only ones were 'hard of hearing' jobbies and the sound effects descriptions just get in the way. They did fix it though and release a version with bog standard English subs (hopefully as a supplement to the HoH subs as those would still be needed by some! Not sure on that bit though.).

I've heard that the title is visually stunning but is otherwised filled with a ton of complicated philosophy.
Will still probably buy this though. 27th Feb seems miles away yo.

Menus are looking good - are the US-R1 ones anything like these?

Apparently Manga UK are rumoured to have produced the dub for GITS2 themselves using the Stand Alone Complex actors.

But that's because the dub for the original GitS is awful. Good dubs, such as the one for Spirited Away, can be very enjoyable.

Now THAT is the cover that should have been on the R1.
Looking forward to getting this one - with the GitS:SAC lot doing the dub for it it should be quite good in that respect, and hopefully that will be on here. Given the complexity of what was said half the time there was a danger that you were missing some of the gorgeous visuals while you were reading the subs.
Not that I'm averse to original language tracks - for live action stuff it is my preferred option, but on Anime I'll take the dub as long as it's done decently.
