Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced the Blu-ray release of Ghostbusters for the 15th of June. A list of all announced bonus material can be found below. Several retailers are also listing a boxed set containing the original film and its sequel, Ghostbusters II, but there's no official word on that in the press release. Since these specs are based on the US release there's still the chance that they will be slightly different for the UK market, but we'll bring you complete details just as soon as they're available.

Good news its been officially announced.Bad news is around 5 months to wait !!
I wonder if they sc**p the visual element of the commentary. It never caught on but I quite enjoyed it as a concept.
Also, I'm a little worried about how some of those effects are going to look in HD and if Sony are tempted to scrub up the film digitally and get rid of (what I imagine will be) a lot of grain.
I definetely want to own this but I'm going to have to wait and see what the reviews are like before I decide to get it in the first week or wait until the price drops.

It's just Ghostbusters. There doesn't look to be anything much in the way of extras on the BD (that weren't on the DVD) so it'll be a case of waiting 5-6 months for the release and then when you play it for the first time going, 'Yep, it's Ghostbusters. I've seen this'.
I think Sony should revisit this with CGI to redo some of the stop motion dogs. Keep the original of course but this one is a candidate for a littlw bit of Lucas-ing.

The original Ghostbusters dvd was a fantastic package, and it was released when dvd hadn't taken off yet. Unfortunately GB2 was overlooked, and I think it will be the same when its released on Bluray. As a massive GB fan I will double dip but only on the first. I'm sure GB2 won't have any decent features.
The visual commentary on the dvd, ala MST3000 was a funny chat track. It was quite innovative and would work on BD.

I agree with you IP, the effects on the dogs really look ropey. Especially when it runs across the street.

As the world's biggest Ghostbusters fan, I heartily endorse this dvd release.
FINALLY.
FINALLY.
It's not a DVD release
Hmmm.... I own the DVDs & am unsure about upgrading to BD going by some of the comments regarding the grain issues & all.... but then it occurred to me, I sold my PS3 for rent money, so f**k it.
I want both films on Blu, so naturally, when this hits US, which i think it was announced but can't be sure, I'm deff buying it either way.
Why are people so against grain? It's what makes up the image in the first place.
Mine! :D
Pretty soon they will want Nosferatu in full high def colour...
