Admittedly, I didn't like this show at first glance. I believe my exact phrase was, "What the hell is this s**t???". But after hearing about its insane popularity, I decided to give it another chance....and I'm glad I did. For the most part, the musical numbers are fantastic, as is the writing. The episode where Kurt tries to act masculine by singing Mellencamp's "Pink Houses" was especially hilarious. I also like the fact that they use cover songs, both old and new. Caters to more than one demographic I think. I'm very much looking forward to getting this, and I'm glad I didn't break down and buy the 'Sectionals' set.

I don't think real show choirs and glee clubs ever do original songs. That's probably best left for the theatre clubs.

It's an okay show. The lady who played the boss in "40 Year Old Virgin" is fantastic in this show, and the lead girl has great pipes. But for the life of me -- why can't they have someone writing original songs for the show?? Having the actors do covers of famous songs all the time is just redundant.
I started watching it because the Mrs sings and likes watching any shows where that's the main focus, but I ended up liking it. As others have said it has a dark sense of humour and Jane Lynch's acerbic coach is very amusing. The female lead can really belt it out, as can most of the cast to be fair. I'm not really a fan of the male lead's voice, but it's not terrible - just a bit weak for my tastes.
As for all the gay jokes, well there are more than enough attractive females to satisfy openly straight men's urges. In fact there's only one gay character in the whole show. A couple of the cheerleaders are bi, but that is surely something that would appeal to a lot of straight men? I think the dumb blonde one is quite funny as well. I can see it having a limited lifespan, but as long as they don't try and spin more than a few seasons out of it the show should remain entertaining. They do need to give some of the ancillary characters more to do though. The goth girl doesn't have much to do now that her stuttering plot has gone, and the asian/black guys are pretty much window dressing.

How about it has some good bits and some bad bits???
Yeah Stilwell, you got pwned.
The show has its ups and downs. It has poor continuity and an over-sized cast that should be trimmed. Some of the song numbers are entertaining while others are painful (the male lead Finn cannot sing but most of the other overshadowed guys can sing quite well). However, I loved Popular (same creator of Glee) and am happy that Glee sports a sense of humor bordering on dark. The comedic writing on this show is strong most of the time so that's a plus. If the writers can get it together and fix the eye gouging bad points, then maybe Glee will be worth its renewed second and third seasons (made official).
As for those who are being jerks and equating homosexuality with being a fan of Glee, grow up.

This is a horrible show, and only someone who doesn't know good tv and movies would think it worth anything. It's just so....bad. I'd rather watch 24, Oprah, or anything involving Hulk Hogan. That should show you just how bad this c**p is.
You're VERY right it's a very c**ppy show, it's not brilliant, it's not amazing and it's very bad TV. Only the Satellite Awards, Golden Globes Awards, Teen Choice Awards, Writers Guild of America Awards, Directors Guild of America Awards, Screen Actors Guild Awards, People's Choice Awards, Artios Awards, Diversity Awards, AFI Awards, CDG Awards, Peabody Awards, countless other wins and nominations, the Gold certifications for all the soundtracks, record breaking downloads on iTunes, the record breaking number of singles in the Billboard 100, the universal critical acclaim and all the sold out concerts over the US are wrong and everybody is stupid... Hey, could you tell me what other thing have we've seen "over and over again. And always much better than this"? Because they really must be better than this c**p!
Stilwell... you have been owned. All of the ignorant, ineloquent and homophobic trolls on this site really need to find something better to do with their time, and go away.
Glee is fantastic in my opinion. If anyone would like to offer some valid, thought-out criticism, go right ahead. Saying "This is GAY!!!" or "You just don't know good TV if you like this," serves only to make you look like an ass-hat.

The first 13 episodes of the season were great, but they took a different direction with the second half. I'm not sure if I'll buy this one, but Road to Sectionals is fantastic.
I'll admit I first thought this show was only for gay people but then I watched it and discovered it has some of the best comedy writing on TV.
The artwork kind of sucks. The art for the "Road to Sectionals" DVD was better than this. I seriously hope they change it.

The only thing they have in common is that they sing and dance. HSM and Fame (the remake at least) were targeted gerenally at tweens. It's an amazing TV show, but the themes it deals with and the jokes, especially in The Power Of Madonna episode (for example: a character says "Rachel was talking about her boyfriend and she almost sprayed the whole room."), are brilliant, but not very appropriate for that age group, in my opinion...

I have the first half season, but will buy this collection, because I keep hearing something about a $10 rebate that comes with it.

I'm not against homosexuality, but you know when something is so gay it's flaming and making TV look stupid, well then you got Glee. Glee is just offensive. It's very stereotypical and kind of mean.

Quinn is the hottest chick on the show (IMHO) and they left her out of the cover? That's pretty bland. The artwork is pretty dismal, but I'm picking this up regardless.
Where's Quinn?!
This makes me happy to know that I didn't purchase the "Road to Sectionals" DVD set! Viva Glee! Much love to all my fellow Gleeks out there!
It's definitely an offensive comment.

If you read this comment and aren't at least somewhat offended, you might be a bigot.

I LOVE this show. I look forward to it every week. It was announced right away that the complete season would be released later, so people should have just waited for it. As much as I wanted to buy this show, I wasn't going to buy the first 13 episodes and then later have to buy the complete set, leaving the first release utterly worthless.
Anyway, I can't wait to buy this. I wish it were being released even sooner.

If you're a poster who thinks being a homosexual is bad, you are definitely a prick.

Not mentioned in the OP, but there is a $10 rebate if you own the original 13 episode set. www.gleebatedvd.com is not yet active though since this set isn't coming out until September.
I like the cover. My only problem is that it should have all the Glee kids on it, not just Finn and Rachel. I'm also glad that they are indeed releasing a full season set, not just a second volume. Though, I do feel bad for anyone who bought the first volume of season one, now...
What does everyone do that now already owns the first thirteen episodes...?
Huh. That cover is just not... what I would call attractive. It definitely wouldn't pull in a casual or non-viewer. Looks more appropriate for the back cover.
Love/hate the show, but this is just an awkward design. I hope Fox reworks it because the cover for the third soundtrack is downright terrible (one character even has two different shoes on!).

i LOVE glee. its my favorite show. i think i can break my rule of not buying TV shows on DVD for this
