Gods and Generals (US - BD)
Warner Home Video reveals details on a new Extended Director's Cut Blu-ray
Title: Gods and Generals (IMDb)
Starring: Jeff Daniels
Released: 24th May 2011
SRP: $34.99
Further Details:
Warner Home Video has announced an Extended Director's Cut Blu-ray release of Gods and Generals for May 24th. Retail will be around $34.99. Extras will include an introduction by Executive Producer Ted Turner and Director/Screenwriter Ronald F. Maxwell, a commentary by Ronald F. Maxwell and Historical Advisors Col. Keith Gibson and James I. Robertson Jr, 3 featurettes ("Journey to the Past: The African-American Slave Experience in the Film’s Era", "The Life of Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson", "The Authenticies of the Film"), 2 Music Videos (Bob Dylan’s Cross the Green Mountain and Mary Fahl’s Going Home), and the trailer.

Quote: Reedited from beginning to end with amplified scenes and an added subplot, this all-new 2-Disc Extended Director’s Cut of Ronald F. Maxwell’s Gettysburg prequel restores his original vision of the fierce allegiances and combat of the early American Civil War. From Jeffrey M. Shaara’s bestseller, this commemorative release coinciding with the 150th anniversary of the North/South conflict incorporates an hour of footage never seen before. The story of actor and future Presidential assassin John Wilkes Booth (Chris Conner) is newly integrated throughout the narrative alongside the legendary heroism of Joshua Chamberlain (Jeff Daniels), “Stonewall” Jackson (Stephen Lang) and Robert E. Lee (Robert Duvall). And the battle of Antietam is now included along with the fateful clashes at Manassas, Fredericksburg and Chancellorsville.

Day one purchase for me as well. Just have to be sure it's not locked, region wise.
The extended cut, shown only once in front of a live audience received a standing ovation at the end. I for one was content with the theatrical 3 1/2 hr version but it did feel rushed. Wish more people would give this one the second change it deserves. Day 1 purchase for me, along with Gettysburg.
Looking forward to the extended cut.
Probably the movie least in need of an extended cut.
