Major letdown, but the metal pack does sound interesting.

I got tired of getting in arguments over this film the last couple of months. But I stand by my assertion that the people who didn't like it need to admit to themselves that they don't really like Godzilla movies. Which is perfectly fine. It's not meant to be an insult of taste, because Godzilla movies are weird, uneven movies that aren't for everyone. As someone who *does* enjoy Godzilla films, I thought it was delightful and almost everything I could ask for from a modern, American reboot of the franchise. They missed a chance to have a compelling human lead, unfortunately. Aaron Taylor-Johnson would've worked fine if he had been a secondary lead for an action scene or two.
Still, I can't wait for the next one.

Very good film, no let-down at all......other than they could have used a little more of the big green guy than just the ending. Looks like the franchise has new life and is in good hands.
As somebody who is *not* a fan of Godzilla movies, this was a terrific surprise. I really liked this one, and have little to articulate my opinion beyond the fact that I somehow enjoyed a giant monster movie.
To put this in perspective, I hated Pacific Rim and loved this one.

The people who didn't like "Godzilla" more than likely need action every 15 minutes into their movie. Now you might think with a title such as "Godzilla", you wouldn't expect that here, but that's why this movie is so great. The director is a lot smarter here and holds off this bad boy until the second half of the movie and that's brilliant. What makes it so? For one, the amount of suspense here is great. All the talking about Godzilla, the footage at the beginning spotting Godzilla, etc. It's all very exciting. Not to mention there's still some action here and there before Godzilla arrives.
Also, this movie is just gorgeous to look at. For a monster movie, you'd think set locations wouldn't be a thing, but I like how the movie looked. In some cities, this movie had a nice, vibrant look to it. The night scenes were just very well-lit and the director actually KNOWS how to shoot action scenes. I had no problem with the pacing personally. You were never bored because of Elizabeth Olsen's character, and heck, I liked Aaron Taylor Johnson. I thought the family dynamic really added to this movie BECAUSE Johnson was so stone-cold. It makes things more emotional and realistic.
I don't know, maybe I'm just blessed to like this movie, but I really feel that you appreciate cinema and smarter movies, I'd think you would get a kick out of Godzilla. I might actually buy this one. A solid 7.5/10 from me, and upon further views, I wouldn't be surprised if this landed an 8/10 for me.

I respect everyone's opinion and I am personally not gonna argue back. I'll just say again: I didn't like it and it let me down. It doesn't matter IMO what one thinks of Godzilla movies in general, this is the movie at hand and I didn't like it. Again, totally fine if you enjoyed it however. I don't require action all the time, but I'd rather Godzilla be the focus and not the other tentacle looking creatures that look like leftover from a cloverfield spinoff or sometning.
It really is fine to not like it, Matt. I wasn't really referring to your note, but the oodles of people that told me that it was a bad Godzilla movie, followed by a list of things (like lack of Godzilla, focus on humans, focus on other monsters) that define all but two movies in the series. I'm not annoyed by disparate opinions, but by people who claim to understand something they clearly don't. Godzilla was, generally speaking, a movie made for fans, by fans, which, by definition, should put off quite a few people. I'm happy and surprised that the general public appears to have enjoyed it.
Much appreciated, gabe and thanks for clearing it up. Off topic: Damn those are some nice covers. I do wish the metal lack had a different shot of Godzilla, but those are nice. I wonder if the "roar" will stand the test of time or if it'll die out, I mean the push button thingy.
i admit i've never been Godzilla fanboy (nor a hater either) and i've warmed up to this movie. it felt kind of "meh..." initially but i've watched it 2 more times after that and each time i watched it i liked it a bit more and more. i LOVED the MUTO creatures a lot and Godzilla was awesome (the little he was on screen). also the sound design/fx in the movie are AMAZING!! the uber-creepy noises the MUTO's make are notable standouts.
the main complaints i have are
1. them cutting away (at least 2 times, maybe 3. i can't remember) from the creatures fights got VERY annoying VERY fast. and they didn't even cut back to the fight.
2. the human storyline was VERY bland and just not interesting. i adore both Aaron and Elizabeth Olsen but their whole storyline(s) weren't engaging IMO. i don't need non-stop action (the new TRANSFORMERS movie i hear is practically non-stop action and there's no way i want that) but i at least need the non-creature parts to be interesting. Aaron is fantastic in KICK ASS and he was bland in Godzilla. Olsen fared better in the movie but she wasn't on screen as much as Aaron.
i'm looking forward to the next movie though.

Totally agree. I don't know why they cut away, but my guess is because of $. I remember on the avengers commentary joss kept going on about how expensive the shots of the hulk were. The human story was definitely boring. Also, why do these movies always try to show the hero as a do gooder? The whole stuff trying to be nice to the kid was cheesy. I didn't mind Aron in the kick ass movies at all, but he was out of his element here.

The artwork sucks
Oh, wow. Am i dreaming right now? It seems the DVD has the same bonus features as the BD. Before someone asking, no, I'm not a BD detractor (I'll buy the BD myself). It's just nice to see the (now minority?) DVD-fanatics out there being treated rather fairly this time. Really hoping all the deleted materials are there in the discs.
As for the movie itself, I really like it. But the one thing that prevents me from loving it is the glaring missed opportunity of having Bryan Cranston as the main (human) character for the entirety of the movie. Instead, we have the bland Aaron Johnson for the rest of the runtime after Cranston left the scene. It's really because of Johnson that I wished for more monster action just so that I don't have to watch him for much longer.

I'm bummed the metal pack doesn't have the 3d version. Or that we don't get the figure included in. Germany. But I'm buying it for sure!
Matt there's no reply from you in your response to me!

Would have been ten times a better film if Bryan Cranston was the lead and Aaron Taylor Johnson wasnt in it at all. His character offered nothing and was like a large plank of wood.
But it got mixed in eith your comment LOL, my bad. I don't know how thst happened

matt86, oh!! i just now saw what you said/wrote! LOL.
Completely agree with Matt86
My problem with this film is that it focused on a completely different monster entirely. Godzilla came in way too late. I'm sorry, but if you make a movie called Godzilla, have him in it and have him be the focus. There is nothing interesting about another monster destroying the city when the film is called Godzilla. They also cut away about 3 solid times every time Godzilla was about to fight. Bryan Cranston was the only interesting character. Aaron was wooden, Elizabeth Olsen didn't really do anything, Ken wantanabe had the same expression the entire film, Sally Hawkins was pointless. What a boring movie and missed opportunity. I don't need action every 15 minutes, but I certainly expect the characters to be interesting since we're spending the majority of the time with them as we wait for action. If people liked it (Many didn't) then that is totally fine. Everyone is entitled to their opinion.
