According to one online retailer, the Hong Kong Region 3 DVD release will be a 2-disc edition. Does anybody know if this will include the extended cut?
This rests comfortably at the top of my "Worst Movies Of The Year" list. Everything about it was a let down from the bad CGI to the incredibly terrible pacing. It's such a shame because the movie had so much potential and I really like everyone in the cast.

With that said, I'll still purchase this first day; I didn't think it was that bad as the critics were making it out to be.
I have a perfect solution.. Buy a Blu-ray Player.. Problem solved

I would happily buy an extended cut of GL, just on its own, on DVD. (Perhaps Target or some other store will get an exclusive DVD release of this cut.) Totally agree 110% on this and yeah I think Target will have a DVD for the Extended Cut maybe. Didn't they do that with Terminator Salvation?
Dvd will never die not yet and the studio could but this one a 2 disc dvd it they wanted too. There is nothing wrong with dvds I have a HGTV but not a blue ray player yet .

No extended cut on DVD? Will download for the time being. I enjoyed this in theatres so I am looking forward to checking out the other cut. It had it's flaws but it was still enjoyable. The cover art for both DVD and BRD are absolutely horrible anyway.

I am not ine of the ones b***hing about no special features but if a DVD has a few things on it then I want that same copy when I rent it. i agree with everything you said 'matt86', cause that happen to me a few times.

I don't doubt you, but could you post a link to this bit? If it is true, then WB really should make the EC available on DVD too. Since the only bonus feature on the DVD is a comic preview and deleted scenes (and the movie is only 2 hours long), there's no reason WB couldn't make the EC available via seamless branching.

I have a HD-Def TV and a PS3 and blue-ray and I'm still not wowed by what blu-ray has to offer. I still enjoy DVD's and I prefer the style of their boxes as well.
Simple answer as to why special features are disappearing from DVDs--99% of consumers who still purchase DVDs do not care about extended cuts or special features and having one SKU for a movie on DVD eliminates a lot of costs to the studios while giving consumers who just want the movie the cheaper alternative of what used to be the choice between a featureless, single disc release or a two-disc special edition with all the bells and whistles. While there are other economic reasons for the studios pushing Blu-ray, they also know that a large majority of people who care about all the extra features have moved on to the newer format. Based on the fact that you posted your objections here I know that many of you fall into that 1% of the DVD market, but Blu-ray's been here for over five years now fellas--it's time to move on.

Really? The Alien Quadrilogy managed this just fine on DVD about five years ago,
and the five disc DVD Bladerunner set managed three versions on one disc. Has something changed in the mean time?
All I said was that it's easier and more practical on Blu-ray, especially if you want everything on one disc with special features. I never said it's impossible on DVD. Drop the guff.

and some people wonder why people get movies/extended cuts/bonus features other "methods". put the damn extended cut (of any movie) on a DVD too. the economy sucks and i'm happy that $80 for a BR and however much a HDTV costs is no sweat for those telling us who don't own them to pay that but yeah, the economy is awful. many of us have perfectly fine non-HDTV's and regular "obsolete" (sarcasm) DVD players and don't feel like being railroaded in to buying products WE DON'T NEED. and yes, we don't NEED an extended cut of anything but it IMO would be good business to included even a barebones extended cut for a DVD release. again, or people will just continue to get their extended cuts and movies other ways.

You don't see a quality company like Criterion skimping on their DVD releases, while making the best extras exclusive to Blu-ray. Its just counterintuitive, some people aren't going to buy Blus no matter how much they cost. I own a few Blus myself, but they're all combo packs. Saves me from double-dipping or upgrading in the future.

Well, I hate to admit, but blu-ray is the future. I finally bought an HDTV and blu-ray player last year and I couldn't be happier. Such a difference from DVD. I'm not trying to be mean, but get used to it, blu-ray is here to stay.

He's probably referring to analog television broadcasts, which stopped in 2009. Everything's digital now.
There are many cases where it is obvious that the studio is being lame and not putting features on the DVD when they can, but with extended cuts of movies it is much more practical to use Blu-rays. It's a lot easier to seamlessly branch multiple versions of a movie on the same disc instead of having two separate movie files with a lot of redundant material, and Blu-rays just hold so much more memory that you can cram a lot of shiny special features onto them without having to add a second disc.

Broadcas tv is gone? I really don't keep up with tv any more but do u mean like live audience and what not? I dont understand all that. Is it Tivo to blame and the internet? I agree tho, dvds are no longer "the thing" its just not their time any more. At least as far as new releases go. I got more upset when dvds started getting no inserts, eco boxes, no trailers for the actual film thats on the disc and so much more. All this went away, however when blu ray came around
They can't always put the same features on the dvd, nor should they. Blu-ray is much better than dvd. Just get a blu-ray player. The last one we got was 80 bucks. Easy. I'm tired of people whining that they don't put good features on dvds anymore. Get over it. DVD is just about done. Most people have HDTV and blu-ray. It's just the way it is. Did you whine when broadcast tv stopped ?

8-9 minutes isn't nearly enough to salvage the movie. It needs 15 more minutes at the least (more time on Oa and more time with Carol and Tom), as well as a complete redo in the editing bay. GL was chopped to bits, and it was sad to see how undernourished and rushed it was. The script needed a better overhaul too.
I enjoyed GL, but it has some serious problems. I wished WB released the extended cut on DVD too, not just as a Blu-ray exclusive. If WB wants to get a sequel underway, they're going to have to get a good director who loves and understands the material.

Missed this in theaters. Maybe I made a good decision. All the trailers for this film looked AWFUL. And when I mean AWFUL, I mean Fantastic 4 AWFUL. All the critics and people that I know disliked the movie saying it was cheesy, stupid, and Ryan Reynolds looked like Will Ferrell at points. Then again, I happen to like DC Superheroes a little more than Marvel so maybe I'll check this out. Based on all the clips and TV spots, I think this will look amazing on blu-ray. I'll probably rent.
This movie looked terrible and I really can't stand Ryan Reynolds as an actor. Will likely pass.
I agree with insomniac I am so sick of Blue ray getting all the special features and dvds getting screwed .No everyone and that includes me owns a blue ray player yet.No wonder movie studios are hurting for money quit putting everything on blue ray and give the dvd the same treatment because if it were not for vhs and dvds there would be no blue ray .
Well, I can hold out hope that the Extended Version will be on digital marketplaces, like Zune and iTunes. Warner Brothers did that for Sucker Punch.

I said the EXACT same thing, we didn't get enough of the other lanterns. I wanted to love this film but it failed on several levels. To me it didn't even feel rushed, it had horrible pacing issues. I don't know how much better the extended cut could be. Usually the theatrical film has to be at least half decent and u can see room for improvements(daredevil is a good example of this) but this was lacking in all areas. The action scenes were even lackluster and we get no actual villain other than a cloud.

insomniac, i agree w/ you 100000. they are foolish to only put special features (or the meaty ones) on BR. it's money they aren't getting from me. regarding the movie it looked abysmal.
