We don't make this stuff up
Finally, now I can pawn off my c**ppy versions of the first three that TOP released a LOONNNNGGG time ago. Good cover art even if the movie is ass by Hellraiser standards.

They have always had the distribution rights to the film in the U.S., only it's taken them until now to release it here in region one on DVD.

i'm pretty sure Dimension released this in theaters...so how come Paramount has the video rights? or did they release it in theaters as well?
oh yeah this is the UK/World section so nevermind...cuz the studio that released this in north america isnt necessarily the same that released it overseas..lol

If anyone is interested in buying this, I HIGHLY SUGGEST that you put in some extra money and invest in the much more elaborate HELLRAISER BOX SET from Anchor Bay, available only in Region 2. It's definitely worth the money and it's loaded with secial features. A lot more than Paramount would ever invest in. It also includes a cool letter from Clive Barker and two of his early films. This collection will NEVER be available in the states.
check it out here:

Hellraiser III (UK) includes:
Uncut Widescreen Presentation (1.78:1) Enhanced for 16:9 TVs
Stereo 2.0
Optional 5.1
DTS
Audio Commentary: Director Anthony Hickox and Star Doug Bradley
Featurette 1: Under the Skin: Doug Bradley on Hellraiser III: Hell On Earth
Featurette 2: Raising Hell On Earth: Interview with Director Anthony Hickox
Featurette 3: On Set interviews with Clive Barker & Doug Bradley
Theatrical Trailer

Optional English Subtitles for the Hard of Hearing
Anyway, a couple years ago I bought Hellraiser III on DVD from Lions Gate at a local K-Mart. No features at all, but I just thought it was strange that Paramount was releasing this.

Is it just me, or is the cover art for all of the Hellraiser films the exact same.

No, it's the US region one section, hence the RRP being in dollars.

Lionsgate had rights to this movie as late as 2001 when I bought the DVD at K-Mart.

Yea, when did Paramount get the rights to these random sci-fi sequels like "Highlander 2" and "Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth"? But at least we get an anamorphic widescreen eition.
Still blows that we get no:

Didn't Paramount co-distribute the film with Dimension?
Quote: Didn't Paramount co-distribute the film with Dimension?
Not sure, could be. The rights to this film got all tangled up during production when New World basically bought the farm. Paramount might have co-distributed it, but it's been close to 14 years since I saw this in the theatre.
I do know for a fact, having owned both two VHS copies and the unrated laserdisc of this film at one time or another, that they have held the U.S. home video rights ever since its 1993 VHS release. The Lions Gate disc people keep referring to is actually a Canadian R1 release; this Paramount disc is the first time that the movie will have been released on DVD in the U.S.

So all this DVD has to offer is widescreen?
This looked like interesting news to me, then I remembered how horrible recent Paramount's older films have been on DVD. The transfer for "Sliver" is one of the worst I have ever seen.
Paramount released Hellraiser 3 back when it was distributing films for Miramax (it was on VHS from Paramount back in 1992). I hope it is the uncut version on R1 DVD and they include the R2 extras. I might have to ask Paramount about this.

About time. Now Paramount needs to release Children of the Corn II.

Yup...play.com has a great price on the set, but they don't ship to the U.S.

Blech. Huge fan of Hellraiser and Clive that I am I cannot stand this stupid, c**ppy frickin' movie. Yuck.
Still, good that it is released for those who (I can't say why, but there's no accounting for taste) want it.

I purchased that Puzzle Box from Amazon UK about 6 weeks ago when they had it on sale for like $30. I hate Hell On Earth, but it was worth it for the inclusion of the other two films, the bonus disc, and the kick ass packaging. Those two "unreleased" films are actually available now in the states under a different title and company. Now I just have to wait for the Phantasm Sphere to drop in price again so I can pick that up. Why isn't Anchor Bay that nice to us here in the States?

Not sure if you're so interested in the packaging that you have to get the 'Sphere' set, but I recently purchased the digipak version of the set from Amazon UK for about $25 with shipping.
EDIT: Oops, look like they just recently almost doubled the price for some reason, now with shipping it looks like it would cost roughly $50 with shipping. Ouch.
Still, it's a nice set with plenty of extras and good picture and sound, so it's highly recommended since 3 out of 4 of these movies have either never been released or are on moratorium at the moment in R1. Besides that it's doubtful they would get this good of a release here anyways since AB doesn't have the rights to release them in the U.S.

This is not the first time Hellraiser III was available in Region 1. I have the OOP Canadian version from 2000. This will be worth the upgrade, if the price is right, to get a widescreen copy.

You forgot when Paramount released "The Stepford Wives" on DVD, that was a horrible transfer as well.
As for the studios that released "Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth" imdb.com says that Dimension Films, Miramax Films and Paramount pictures were the companies who joined to release the film in theaters in 1992 and Paramount released it on VHS and laserdisc. I bet that Lionsgate Films bought the film back in 2001 for a DVD release but now Paramount bought it back so it could have a proper DVD release. Hope this helps.
But as for "Higlander 2", I have no idea why Paramount own that film, its a Colombia Pictures release not Paramount!
