Agreed! my personal favorite in the series is Hellraise II, but i think it would be nice to see the trilogy released. The others in the series i find fun as well so long as you take them for what they are rather than having high expectations.

im not buying this c**p until we get Hellraiser III: Hell On Earth on blu ray
You have to ask yourself just how good this particular title will look on Blu-Ray.
Hellraiser has always looked grainy and it will be quite eye-opening as to how much grain will appear on this forthcoming edition.
It's a great movie, but it will probably look little better than the standard-def release.

This should look moderately good on Blu-ray, in previous Anchor Bay titles there has been a montage preview and Hellraiser was in it and the clip was in a respectful 1080p shot.
No unrated? No deal.

I agree. Wasn't the way it was shot a major part in how it loks as the gritty dirty horror it was? I can see it know - "Looks a bit dark there - let's lighten it up".

i would say they are not re-mastering it, just using their old dvd scan.

That's...a joke...right?

Got the R2 boxset with Hellraiser 1-3 included and am happy with that... What are people's thoughts on the upcoming remake? Apparently Barker is happy with the choice of Martyrs director, Pascal Laugier remaking it, although (as i've said elsewhere) I thought Martyrs was dire. Don't get me wrong I can see why he's happy with him - just check out the very end of Martyrs to see why, but I found Laugier's filmmaking poor - like two films stuck together! Also, check out the new Pinhead design (which was rejected), I like the fact the guy was trying something new but Barker is apparently going with the same symmetrical Pinhead design - shame as a new vision could work if given a chance.
Will be getting! Looks awesome!

But, didn't the 20th Anniversary dvd they released in 07 use a new transfer? I know Gabe said in his review of it that it didn't look that spectacular, but he also said he didn't have any of the other releases to compare it to. I found this from another review:
The Video:
Previous DVD editions of this frequently marginalized movie cannot compare to the job Anchor Bay does this time around. The 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen image looks marvelous, bright and colorful with lots of defining details. The biggest improvement comes with Kirsty's first encounter with the Cenobites in her hospital room. Where previous versions practically whited-out over the intense lighting and exposure Barker employed, the new transfer is just terrific. It's still stunning, but in a much more manageable way.

I saw the rejected design at UHM, and agreed with most of the posts there that it was pretty lame and "slipknot wannabee" like. I love this movie and think it should be left alone in terms of remakes. If they want to make a proper full blown decent sequel or prequel, I'm up for it, but not a remake, I'm just not that keen on all of these remakes anymore. Friday the 13th was incredibly stupid and its cramming of 3 good originals into one snoozefest couldn't have been any worse and the characters couldn't have been more annoying. It's pretty bad when I'm pleading Hollywood to do sequels, but I would take them over remakes any day anymore when it comes to originals I love, although I don't much love the "every movie these days needs at least 1 or 2 DTV sequel(s)" thing when it comes to decent original movies. Hollywood for the most part anymore is like choosing how you want your dog c**p cooked, and then wrapped to go (commenting on 75% of cover art anymore), it stinks... [/end rant]

ACtually, the only real problems with the DVD release, if I'm remembering correctly, were related to compression. This disc will likely be grainy, but it won't feature all those chunks of digital blocking, which means it will look more like the original theatrical release. As long as they don't mess with the levels a hi-def transfer can always look better, unless the movie was less than 35mm to begin with.
If ever there was a need for a horror film to be remade/rebooted/whatever it's gotta be this. The original is kinda creepy/cool for the gore factor but the original Clive Barker story is bit of a missed oportunity, I mean it's awesome but this movie (and the 7 sequals that followed) didn't capture what was on the page. If it is to be remade... for god's sake make the Cenobites look totally different!
Um... er... what's up with the cover art?

On the box set:
No DTS, no uncut Hellraiser III with commentary and actual extras, no sale.
Also not too big a fan of the way the box opens up on the set.

that's a nice puzzle box.
i dont like all the DTV sequels but i wouldnt mind a nice puzzle box like that for the first 4 movies, since they do have an ongoing continuity and 4 was probably meant to be "the end".

If you're going to have a box set, why not include all the films? I know a lot of people dislike some of the later sequels, but I thought they worked much better then parts 3 & 4.

For the same reason you're most likely not going to see a good deal of older, long-spanning horror franchises in complete boxed sets (in the U.S., anyway); because too many different studios hold the rights to different parts of the franchises. Classic examples: The Evil Dead and Phantasm films. To the best of my knowledge, neither has ever seen a boxed set in the U.S., and those are only 3 and 4 films apiece in their respective franchises. Imagine how much harder it gets the more films there are in a series...

Halloween is the worst one in this case, i think of the 8 original movies, there's something like 4 or 5 studios who own rights to different parts, its nuts.

Why would you need DTS when there are TrueHD tracks? Lossless is lossless.

Well, if that's the case, I've got a LIST of people I'll be "gifting" this to this year!

(cracks up laughing and backs out of comments).
I want that puzzle box... but only want blu version.
it seems frivolous to have boxed set releases boxed sets on BD but contain DVDs which we know will be released in due time either way so why not hold off on the boxed set? If not that release them all at the same time with option for the puzzle box.
being as crazy as i am for the series i will more than likely buy the box, then replace the DVDs with BD as they come out. i did the same thing with the Star Wars trilogy boxed set. but thats a different matter
