Yes, all the "Deleted scenes" come without dialogue. They've added music to it apparently it's not even music by Michael Kamen which would have been appropriate.

No, the commentary is a newer one done with Mulcahy on his own, it was recorded for the 2007 DVD releases.

I reviewed the disc a couple of weeks ago. The specs above are accurate.

Geek!
Just kidding.
Just kidding.
Thanks to the good Mr Hudson for the info. Cheers!!!!

Still, considering that very little has survived this is a nice surprise.

If it is the same cut used in the latest batch of DVDs that was released by Optimum (UK), Kinowelt (Germany), Studio Canal (France) and Universal (Europe at large) then it is the longer European theatrical version.
Is it the same as the US (10th Anniversary) Director's Cut? Yes and no, they are very similar but there are some dialogue on the European theatrical version that are missing in the US Director's Cut.
1. The scene where Ramirez (Connery) and MacLeod (Lambert) is in the boat and Lambert goes for a swim there are additional lines of dialogue in the underwater scene. While in the US D.C. MacLeod only says "I'm alive" it is subsequently followed with "I can breath" and "I'll split you in half" in the European version.
2. The scene where Ramirez and MacLeod are racing eachother by the beach and they end the race by jumping into the water from a small cliff, shortly before the jump Ramirez shouts "MacLeod, this is the Quickening!"
Also, the wires holding Lambert in the finale are still visible on the European theatrical version as opposed to the US D.C.
Another point of interest is that they fiddled about with the audio for the US D.C. for the 5.1 mix and added the "Buzz" sound known from the series whenever immortals approached one another.
I hope this helps Chris in some way if he is able to check.
Not a big fan of PAL speed-up and I hate listening to the Queen music in the European DVDs although I prefer that mix over the US one despite the latter having the right pitch. To say I'm looking forward to the European Blu-Ray release would be an understatement.
The only downside with this BD is that the 4th part of the documentary is not included. That was an exclusive on the German Kinowelt DVD release and from what I gather the German BD is identical to the UK release. The German BD is being issued this week btw.
What intrigues me is the inclusion of deleted scenes as, as far as we knew and had been told, anything like that had been destroyed in a fire and all that remained were stills from cut scenes (the Kurgan's fight with an Asian immortal, MacLeod and Kastagir's club scene with Bedsoe, the destruction of Nash's antique shop). There is also brief clip from the shorter US theatrical version where Bedsoe is sitting in his car spilling coffee on himself while on stakeout (approx. 5-6 sec).

Why didn't transport for the BD the all the extras from the new Highlander dvd released in UK ?
They did (A Legend is Born, The Visual Style and A Strong Woman are part of the documentary on the DVD) and they also added deleted scenes.

hmmm, the 15th edition of the movie?
I think I know a man that can help with this slight confusion, I'm off to get him...
Oh dear.
I have some DVD version of it from Studio Canal. It looks like c**p. Not sure how much better this is as I noticed some worrying stuff on a quick scan through.
The UK has always had this cut of 116/117mins.
The US had a shorter cut for quite a long time which reportedly cut out things like the flashbacks. The US then got what they called a directors cut on DVD which was the same as the UK/European cut. It was a big deal for US fans but nothing UK/European fans hadn't seen since the theatrical release.
So if your living in the UK and your only experience of Highlander is seeing it in an English version then this is as long a cut as it gets. The US Directors Cut IS the same as the UK/European theatrical cut.
Chris, this BD has to be an improvement on the abysmal R1 THX approved release form years ago. The bit rate on that wss so low the image looked static with frozen 'noise' in some long shots.
Fingers crossed on this release. My memory of Highlander theatrically was that it was dull, grainy and grubby so here's hoping they can remain faithful to that, (without the grubby of course) while improving on the DVD's that have predeeded it.

I've listed the running time, don't know what else I can do. I don't know how long the 'longer' cut is.

I've only taken a very quick look at it, but the image quality seems variable at best. I think there could be some filtering going on.
So... is this the LONGER cut Chris? Cheers.

Have y'all seen the Highlander animation movie called "Highlander: Search for Vengeance"? I think it's quite good and if you like the first one, i bet you will like it. Its true to its core and very entertaining that makes it a worthy addition to the series.

Highlander 2 is the best.
Only joking. I do have a soft spot for 2 though. I've got the Renegade and 2 disc Spec Ed so you do get a sense of what they were trying to achieve with it. It's still a load of old tonk, but bad planning, no finished script and dodgy economics at the time ensured it would be a mess. I don't believe those involved set out to make a bad film. They just tried to make the best of it. The film was taken from the producers and edited by the completion bond company for its thatrical release. While never going to be perfect or a forgotten classic, it's good to see the Special Edition as it plays better.
I've only ever seen 3 on TV and from what I saw, it was poor. The franchise's very own T3. A re-do of the 1st film without any of it's visual originality.
Never seen Endgame or The Source and never seen a full episode of the TV series. I tried watching an episode but it sent me to sleep.
There can indeed be only one. And bits of two.

The best of the entire series!!! Disappointment follows with every sequel!!!
Where else could you find a french highlander and a scottish spaniard?
I'm hope for a decent remaster and not excessive amounts of DNR
Have it on dvd in a nice steelbook, but wait this comes in a nice BD steelbook. Decisions decisions
The first film had a story that resolved itself at the end. I've never seen the second film and from what I've read about it I don't think I ever will. I enjoy the first and its enough for me.

Is this the LONGER CUT ?
Some interviews and a audio commentary? Pass
There can be only one .Yeah theyre right about that, the sequels sucked lol
