I enjoyed this movie. Scared the c**p out of me anyway!
There is a whopping 30 seconds added as the eye scene is slightly extended
what was "unrated" about the region 1 dvd, Nothing, it was the same movie I saw in the theatres. high tention was good and so is The Descent, a nice little movie from the guy who brought us Dog Soldiers.

Can I be the first to say 'Lame movie'? Really looked forward to this but it didnt live up to hype or expectations. Disappointing.
Yeah it's a real pile of garbage.
Honestly, I was really looking forward to seeing this and nearly went and saw it at the theater. I am so glad I didn't. This movie was a major disappointment.
The first hour was like a rip off of EuroTrip only with more boredom and boobs. The last 40 minutes the action finally focuses on the Hostel after a few glimpses of it here and there, and then the entire plot of what the place is is thrown in your face after more than half the movie is over.
The only thing I truly liked about this movie were the last ten minutes. Everything else, total waste of time.
Can anyone gimme my hour and forty minutes back that I spent watching this? And while you're at it, it'd be nice to have the hour and forty minutes back from watching Catwoman, as well...
Greatly appreciated!

Very disappointed with the movie after all the hype. High Tension had more gore and was a better movie IMO.
kinda like the cover actually. didn`t like the film as much as expected
this movie was a big dissapointment... besides it wasnt that gory... it was sick and nasty...
Spoiler why does the head on the right of the cover art look like the main guy. if I remember correctly, his head was never cut off.
this is for sure ONE OF THE WORTST MOVIES EVER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
everything in it is horrible.....it's the first time in years that I wanted my money back after watching it.
O..and the "Tarantino presents"..hahaha..i never liked him and once again he proved me right.
This "movie" should have won all the Golden Raspberry awards.

I mildly like hostel. its a fun film, but It`s in no way one of the...50 most disturbing films ever made. There wasn`t really much gore at all. But why are all of the covers of the DVD so ugly. The R1 was lame, the R2 above is lame, and the R4(the best one) is lame. Why didn`t they use the poster art of the guy sitting in the chair with the chainsaw. It was a cool poster, and would have made a pretty nice cover.
Calm down people.

Oh wow! So he backs it up from 5 feet away to 10 feet, still, it takes some time for a car to accelerate to gain momentum and speed. Logically it would not send 3 people flying into the curb and kill them. He probably hit them at 20mph, my brother got hit by car once at around 30 mph when he was on his bike, he only bruised his ass. I think somebody needs a little lesson in matter and energy, go back to middle school and study newton's laws of motion, you douche.

Roth and Harry Knowles must have been under the table orally pleasuring that bloke to get a review like that. If he thinks this is the sickest, goriest film ever, he must have missed Ichi the Killer. That's a hell of a lot worse than anything in Hostel, as are most of the 'video nasties' from the 70s/80s.
Seriously, this film is massively overrated and fails to deliver on its promise. I found the incredibly tacky stuff in Last House on Dead End Street more disturbing than this film, and I'm no gore-hound. It might upset your granny, but few else.

That guy is a tool. Cannibal Holocaust is about 14 million times more gory and depraved than Hostle. I bet he watched it through clenched fingers.

if you have watched the film you will have noticed that Jays character reverses the car before he 'bowls them over' obviously you were sitting in the corner when your roomates rented hostel and was self abusing yourself to pictures of Hans Zimmer, oh well anyway this film has some great acting in it anyway but shame we got screwed with the special features on both sides of the pond !
They arent losing any, its because of the 4x PAL speed up. The region 4 cover is the best, it features the guy with the drill. If you want to see it go to www.ezydvd.com.au and search for HOSTEL
PAL runs faster: (94 minutes / 25 frames) * 24 frames ~= 90 minutes.
Ok, so the run time on the back cover says 1 hour 30 minutes, but the US Unrated DVD's runtime is 94 minutes? Is it "Unseen" because you all are losing 4 minutes?
I dunno, I kinda think it's a funny cover. I see that The Daily Mirror doesn't watch very many movies.
This was incredibly stupid. My roommates rented it, and I just couldn't help but hang my head in shame. First of all, all the claims that this was incredibly gory are stupid. So what, he cut his achilles tendons, the kid from Pet Cemetary did that and that was 1989! The eye scene was incredibly stupid, how obvious were those prosthetics. The logic behind it was stupid too "ooooh wow, the americans are worth more, wow, big social commentary there, don't hurt yourself trying to analyze that." For people who saw it, you know when he hits them with the car? They are like 5 feet in front of the car, he gasses it, manages to bowl three of them over and kill them, are you kidding me!?!? That cruddy old car must have incredibly good acceleration, lol. Okay, I'm done being a b*****d now, attacks welcomed.
Hmm, that's a lot of director commentaries.
