Just bought this set recently & I love the hell out of it! Any fan of Hot Fuzz should own this set it is a must unless you already have the R2 realese.
The fifth commentary is with Edgar Wright and Quentin Tarantino.
I just bought it today. And I think it was early. Still bought it for $22.99 is guess? Well, it looks cool. Not opening it until Christmas.

Unfortunately the UK HD DVD, while having the Dir Cut trailer listed on the features and on the disc, actually ISN'T. It's just another tv spot. Unless of course they've mixed them up, but I haven't checked yet. Cracking disc, no need for this release at all.

what is that gun? i believe it's a Desert Eagle with a 10"(?) barrel. can i get that seconded?
eh, this one was just okay for me. I loved Shaun of The Dead, and this one was similar, but for some reason I didnt enjoy this one as much as is SOTD.
Good movie but I find it pathetic when studios feel the need to double dip on DVDs to rip off the fans.
I wish they'd flip flopped 3-Disc Collector's Edition and the actors names but otherwise its an okay cover, despite using the image I liked the least.
Shame again, shame...
Great artwork.Fantastic

Thought I just confirmed it.

Yes, the HD DVD has all of the extras found on the R2 two-disc set, but only on the HD DVD side of the disc; the standard DVD side is the same as the regular R1 DVD.
...and also on the standard side features "The Fuzzball Rally" which is 30 minutes of the boys on their US promotional tour. I believe this is unique to US releases. Sounds like this new 3-disc set might have a longer version.

I'm guessing he's referencing Shaun of the Dead, but either way it's against site rules.

Rubbish artwork.
Uh... huh...
Jesus, Universal's gotten greedy these last few years.

That art is quite cool.
so what makes this movie deserve such a big and full release? i havent seen it so this isnt anything against the movie itself but it wasnt that big a hit over here and yet look at all that?
why didnt shaun of the dead get this sorta treatment?

Damn were they fast to double dip this. I'd upgrade Shaun of the Dead, but I'm iffy on this one. Ah well, if I find myself giving in, I only payed $6 for the original 'cause I had coupons.
Yep, I'm passing on buying the one disc and wait for the 3 disc. great deal for me. I love this film.
I have the Uk region 2, I think I'll pass and get it when it goes CHEAP.

I dont care that I've already bought this because I've already watched it multiple times. I remember everywhere I went this was sold out for the first week. I cant wait for this edition! Bring the noise.
Don't negate the swear filter.
So, it's the same as the HD DVD but with the extra commentarys?
I really like this movie. I'm going to buying the 3 disc because I didn't buy any other edition of this movie. Patient is really important in the dvd world.
wow this came out of nowhere..great movie but i dont think ima waste money on this 3 disk when i already have the first copy.

Yo, Slapshot -
Good to know there's someone out here thinking along the same lines. To me, there can be never enough Wright/Pegg/Frost collaborations. Cheers.

I will definitely buy this. I haven't bought it yet, so I'm glad this is coming out.

What a waste of money. Unless if this is a 3-Disc Extended Edition.
This does actually appear to have a fifth commentary.
Glad I've been waiting for that one. I'll gladly give in the three disc edition. Now if only they could do the same with Shaun of the Dead...
Wasn't terribly hung up on this or SOTD for that matter, recent brit comedy really does suck ass.
As much as I loved this movie, I hate universal for doing this. I have the hd-combo so I guess I'm covered. I haven't checked out the hd side yet as I didn't get a hd-dvd player yet...
Well I take it this is a case of "inessential for those who own it, essential for those who don't."
What's "Directors Cut Trailer"
man...i was expecting this, but not so soon. i was just contemplating importing the 2-disk region 2 copy, but i'll definitely go with this one now.
Wtf.
If this were an extended director's cut, I'd be furious. That's rather shady of Universal to announce a double dip so quickly after the initial release.
LOVE this movie, but I'm content with my single disc.

"1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen"? Thought the movie was in 2.35:1... Wow. Edgar must have really gotten pissed at the whole Wal-Mart debacle and decided to release the edition the way he wanted to release it. I'm still gonna buy it, even though I have the UK 2-disc and the Wal-Mart 2-disc. I'm just stupid enough to do it. Besides, a dollar going to Edgar's pockets means more good movies from that crew!
Hey, Wilson Brothers - you wanna weigh in on this?

So happy I didn't buy the 2 disk.Unfortunately I can't say the same for Pride and Prejudice.
Weren't there only 4 commentaries? Looks like they've added the "Edgar Wright and Guest" track. Already bought the Wal Mart "exclusive" but given my track record, I'll probably end up getting this and either sell or giveaway my 2-disc copy.
Well that came out of nowhere! Had there been any hint I wouldn't have bought the the recent release. That aside, this does look like an awesome set, but November is already becoming too expensive.
I am SO thankful I held off on buying this! Funniest movie I've seen in years (i.e. since "Sean of the Dead"
.
Looks really unnecessary.
So the HD version has all the extras of disc 1 and 2? Guess I'm set...
I just bought the Walmart exclusive which had everything but the commentaries. If I can re-gift I might get this one.
I own the R2 release. So the only new stuff is on disc 3? Don't think I'll double dip...
Phft

It's good to see the HD-DVD side even gets all the 4 commentaries (whereas the USA DVD side only gets 1 commentary).
Yeah, a friend of mine was really disappointed in not being able to listen to the Sanford police and villager's tracks; they're both pretty good, though I haven't listened to the 'real police' track yet.

Wow that's a quick turn around on the double dip...and here I thought the whole Zodiac special edition thing was a bit of a cheat when they had a trailer for it on the initial DVD release. At least Paramount's waiting until next year on that one. Now I am glad I coughed up the extra $10 for the HD DVD that has all of the R2 extras.
I guess I should return the copy I recently bought, while I still know where the receipt is.
