Maybe they could also provide the other 3 versions of the story as an extra?

I love guns n roses!!!
The single disc dvd cover art is great. The others for the two-disc and hd/blu are c**p. I don't understand why the studios give the single disc the better art. This happened with Transformers.

Actually thhe exclusive content is for the BLU Disc. NOT the HD-DVD
So go BLU

Just plain ridiculous. I really loved the movie. I will be picking up the 2-Disc Special Edition of the Film just to see the Alternate Version of the film even though I already knew what it is. But REALLY the only version of the FILM that has good Special Features is the Blu-Ray Disc version of the Film. Good job Warner Bros.
The 1 disc art is much better. The yellow is more appealing vs the blue on the 2 disc. Also, I just love German Sheppard dogs. I personally had problem with the CGI, but again, I did like the movie a lot. I'll pick up the 1 disc.
I will wait till I get a blu-ray player and hopefully get this film on blu-ray.
I am totally underwhelmed by the features on the 2 disk version. This will be a rental until they come out with a version with some real extras.

I'll buy the 1 disc, since the 2 disc doesn't seem worth the money.
I like the sound of that controversial ending, to me the movie went downhill around the 60-minute point and got worse with the ending. It was a decent movie for the first hour. Hopefully this alternate version will make me like the movie a tad bit more.
Getting the Blu

That's messed up Warner!! After going blu, you mess up on the HD DVD release...UGH! Shame on you!

This will probably be the last hd-dvd from Warner of a big release ever. So it's a rather historical release too.

Warner DVD's are such a rip-off now. I will wait until this gets discounted before I even consider a purchase.
Everyone should do themselves a favor and read the book. Come to think of it - everyone should read all Richard Matheson books. The man's a genius! This movie was ok but didn't care for the "new" ending.

Wow only 3 months to release... I thought this one was okay, but a bit boring for me...
You know. This is a rare DVD. A worthless 2-Disc Edition.
yep, lame extras. I agree with others that DVD-ROM material accessible on a PC is of not much interest. A DVD player is for extras and not a DVD-ROM.
What?!? A special edition with basically no extras??? WHAT?!?!
If you want a tiny peek at that alternate ending, just watch the trailer. Just a couple of shots, but obviously fit with what has been described here as that other ending as quoted from Cinefex.

I presume by 'controversial ending' they really mean 'ending that tested badly so we changed it.'

Lovely. Shows what Warner thinks of Joe Average Consumer who can't pony up for an HD setup right now. No amount of "f*ck them"s can really encapsulate what I'm feeling right now. Say what you will about Fox and their propensity for double- and triple-dipping, but at least they have the common decency to give people what they want.

Would rather rent than a buy. Saw this in IMAX.
This is one of my favorite books and was a decent intrepretation. I'll pick up the HD-DVD.

I am legend?
Yes... legendary bad.
Yes... legendary bad.
The Vampires looked pretty dumb...
I agree 110% that the creatures looked ridiculous. However, I read somewhere that they went with this "look" because it gives them the PG-13 rating. And I guess looking back, you see goofy looking vampires in flicks like this and Van Helsing and they're both PG-13. From the article I read, if they go with "real" looking vampires, they can garner an "R" rating for "Disturbing Imagery". I dunno. If I had my way, they would've shot the movie without all the CG garbage and then released a PG-13 version in theaters and then the Unrated or R version on DVD without the goofy vampire look. And if all of that *is* incorrect, then Hollywood needs to realize that practical effects look WAY better and are MUCH scarier than CG effects. Anyone else agree or am I alone on this one?
The only reason I think they have an alternate version is to compete with that early DVDScr leaked on the internet. To let people know that is just one version.

I liked it, until more people turned-up and then it got dull.
A massively disappointing and unsatisfying third try at adapting Richard Matheson's horror-sci-fi novella. Will Smith does give a solid performance and some of the empty visuals of New York are nicely rendered...but, that's about as much positive feedback I can give about it.
A definite rental, at best. Also, why the freakin' frick did they feel the need to alter the color of Will Smith's wardrobe (not to mention his face looks a bit odd...) on the 2-disc cover? Weird.

Implausable Premise

ummmm...you do realize the whole concept of this story is that he's the last human alive right? sure we find out others survived near the end but until he meets that girl and kid, he truly thinks he's alone.
and since he was looking for a cure, it made perfect sense to stay in ground zero.
Yes, I quite realize that but my point is that that particular aspect of the premise is implausible in such a densely populated area. Even in the beginning of the plague, there would have been healthy people and those people would have banded together and either would have left, stayed around to protect the one person who was capable of finding a cure or they would have forced him to leave to more safer area to do his work. It's the all the eggs in one basket theory. Why would you put your only hope in harm's way when there is ample opportunity to secure it.
The whole thing just didn't fly well with me. The book was good but different from the movie in several key aspects. Someday they will make a true telling of the book.

I Am Legend was so awful, the dog should have shot Will Smith instead! That would have been interesting and slightly original.
Tought I'd bring something new, but nope: lame extras. Definitely a no-buy until a decent edition comes out. I mean, for 8 differetn minutes, even the thought of seamless branching didn't cross their mind? Geez. Lower than that would be no commentary... oh wait, they didn't as well... oh well, a special edition for 2045 is still in the works I'm sure of it.

This movie was a HUGE disappointment, didn't really do the book justice and the whole premise was just too unbelievable to convince me. I mean, this was a brilliant scientist right? So why did he stay in the most dangerous place in the world? Why didn't he find more healthy people in one of the mostly densely populated places on earth? If he was going stay and was so smart why didn't he have a few more OUT plans in case something went horribly wrong like it did? Just too much of an unreaslistic realistic situation that on the surface seemed to cover all the bases but underneath was swiss cheese. Some movies require suspension of disbelief, some command it and other simply have it built into them. This movie didn't do it on any level.
I am, however, interested in seeing the alternate endings. Maybe they will change my mind but I doubt it. We shall see.

The best looking artwork is that of the single standard dvd edition, simply because it shows his companion, Samantha! And colors truly blend out.
The blue borders on the 2 disc? Pitiful. The hi-def editions dont cut it as well...

For sure is Dolby TrueHD and 'maybe' a PCM.

Cover art is decent and I'll be getting the HD DVD.
All of Warner's HD DVD combos since December have been the same price as the Blu Ray, so there seems to be an extra value on the HD side.

I'm getting a Blu-Ray release for this, I would have got a HD DVD release, but I don't like Combo Editions - I personally think it is a waste of money and really unneccessary! I'll pre-order this together with I, Robot Blu-Ray...
I'll get this, but I don't want my extra features thru an internet link. I am thinking the one disc since probably 7 dollars more for an alternative ending ain't worth it.
Great film.....
Great film.....
Should have called this I Am Scientology, apparently he and his wife have been 'spoken' to by Admiral Cruise.
I haven't seen this but I am probably going to blind-buy the 2-Disc edition. However, I am very surprised by the lack of special features on the 2-Disc and the single disc art is way better than the 2-Disc.

Believe it or not, Warner has only used seemless branching once in R1. That was for the recent Blade Runner release. You think they could save a bit of plastic by doing that again here. These extras are f-ing pathetic I must add.

Hated this film- the book is my favourite book, and I sat in the theatre stewing the entire time. I say we tax Akiva Goldsman a flat $5,000,000 for every future screenplay he decides to "adapt". Shame om the lot of them.

I'll admit, they did a fine job on the "Blade Runner" collection, though. However, Warner's a studio that I've come to expect no commentaries from on their high-profile releases. (Not blanketing New Line under their banner - we all know how good their DVDs can be.) Not too shocked at a lack of commentary on this one. Still looking forward to buying the 2-disc version - loved this movie.
I remember with The Fountain Darren Aronofsky wanted to do a commentary but Warner declined. He ended up doing one himself and posted it online.

I will buy the Blu for sure. I love the coverart for Blu.. they got rid of that cheesy blue border!!
Robert Neville is a brilliant scientist, so why is Will Smith playing him? That dog was great though and is it just me or is CGI getting worse? Surely it shouldn't be that bad, they've had long enough to perfect it.
Great movie, very intense. Will Smith was incredible in it. Too bad the 1-disc art is much better than the 2-disc. Hopefully BestBuy will have a nice tin or something with nicer art.

hated this film... so over-hyped, and for what? .... nothing.
i found it too long for all the "nothing that was going on" added with the horrid special effects, topped off with as much tension and thrills as an episode of The View.
*snore*
"The Last Man on Earth is Not Alone......"
".... He has a dog."

i do recall reading that they filmed stuff with actual actors for the creatures though...that could be an extra, show us the tests or whatnot that proved how "better" it was to use CGI.
but lets hope this isnt really the complete listing.

cool film but shelling out a couple more bucks just for a alternate ending is a tad much i was expecting the film out in april so in march it came out really fast
Yes the seekers should have been human not CGI, plus we've seen a little bit of the original ending from the trailers
Remember the small clip when the seekers walk right up to Neivelle and they open their mouths really wide against his face. that wasnt in the final film.

The artwork looks cool. But the 1 disc art looks better. But the special features suck! Come on just 4 additional scenes and an alternate ending. Please. This could be 1 disc. So desperate.
so basically there is no bonus features, even the Two-Disc Special Edition has literately, nothing on it. What is up with this!
What a colossal disappointment in terms of bonus features. This should be chock full of featurettes and docs, deleted scenes, trailers, etc. Perhaps much of that material is part of the DVD-ROM weblink but for me personally, I have zero interest in accessing my bonus features via computer. So disappointed.
Special features for this movie suck ass. They could have used seamless branching for the alternative ending and put it on disc 1. The they could have filled the 2nd disc with lots of making of and deleted scenes a long with the faboulos trailer
Great looking artwork. Blu-ray version for me.
This is by far the best movie that has come out in a long time!

The 2-disc cover is really nice, but the lack of extras, on a popular film like this, is baffling! They could have seemlessly branched the Alt. ending with the true theatrical cut on disc one... and no commentary!
The lineup of extras is really, REALLY pathetic. This was one of Warner's highest-grossing films of 2007 ($250 million domestic), and not even the 2-disc edition is worth paying more for.
Honestly, if they wanted to make the alternate ending a bonus feature, they could've used a branching feature to keep the movie on one disc. No commentary, no trailers, featurettes, nothing. I just know Warners is going to pull a double-dip on this title.

This was alright....but the CGI creatures were horrid. They should of used real actors for them.
The alternate version of the movie will only be around 8 minutes long. And the controversial ending is:
Spoiler: Controversial Ending Visual effects supervisor Janek Sirrs recounts the original ending starting with the standoff: "At that point, Neville's assumptions about the nature of these creatures are shown to be incorrect. We see that they have actually retained some of their humanity. There is a very important moment between the alpha male and Neville." David Schaub stated: "Then, when Neville finally turns the alpha female over to the alpha male, there is this little love moment between the two of them." The infected then retrieve the captured female and spare Neville's life. The original final shot follows Neville, Anna & the boy as they cross the remnants of the George Washington Bridge in hopes of finding other survivors.

Yeah, this is the weakest extras for a special edition dvd ever. Good job, Warner Brothers. Not even HD DVD or Blu-ray gets some exclusive features. Now, I'm afraid that Warner will do the same thing for another movie that I'm interested to see: 10 000 B.C. when that comes to dvd in late summer.

This was a pretty decent film, but I wouldn't buy it. The 1-disc cover is better, and is probably the overall better buy since the 2-disc has just as much c**p for extras as the 1-disc. Will Smith's face on the 2-disc looks like a mix between himself and Martin Lawrence... Bad Boys 3 mayhaps? Haha.
The 2-disc is probably the biggest rip-off I have ever seen. Boycott.

I hope its the true to the book ending.
It did not use the original book ending. It was closer to the one used for 'The Omega Man'. The 1964 'The Last Man on Earth' has the closest ending that mirrors Richard Matheson's great work.
That said, I did enjoy this movie. And, I'll probably pick up the 2-disc version and give the alternate ending a whirl.

For a 2 disc special edition, it's kind of lame. Where's all the big special features on the making of the film? Where are the documentaries, and marketing featurettes? What about commentary or interviews or deleted scenes? Sure, having an alternate version of the film sounds cool, but come on WB.
I'm hoping that the 2 disc special edition will have more features because if it doesn't, I ain't buy it. Come on, 2 version of the movie and 4 animated comics. Where is the commentaries, the making of, features on the comic book/zombies/attack on the Brooklyn bridge, etc. Please Warner Brothers, this movie was a huge hit so put a little bit of efforts for the dvd. And if they stand with the same stuffs, it will be another disappointing dvd just like what they did with movies like 300, V For Vendetta, Troy, Poseidon. Weak dvds from Warner Brothers. And their bad streak will continue with this one.
LOVED this movie. The ending was a bit rushed, though, and not very good.
Will NetFlix this and then maybe buy it when it hits the $10 mark.

I'll buy the HD DVD. Definitely.

Wow.... I am REALLY surprised with the lack of special features.
Damn! That was fast!
