you need to lighten up, there are countless amounts of movies being made all the time that contain violence. just cause you see something in a movie doesnt mean you have to do it yourself.

Nobody's saying you have to find the rape to be pleasant to be "enjoyed". I found the scenes to be depressing, but well-made. Same with the long rape scene in Irreversible.
As for the film's point, I think it's ambiguous and there's nothing wrong with that. Maybe it's for you to question if brutal revenge is acceptable for what the hillbillies do to Jennifer. (They also try to kill her.) I don't support revenge, but this hasn't happened to me. I've discussed it way more in IMDb's message board for the film. You know, even if there's no real point, I don't care. The film gave me an experience to remember. If the original Halloween and The Evil Dead have points to them, I sincerely doubt they're deeper than whatever the point to ISOYG might have.
AMEN TO THAT!

The first quarter of the ISOYG remake is very similar to the LH remake and that's probably it's only fault imho. As for it being gratuitous, well yes it is but nowhere near as bad as the original although just as harrowing but in a different way. It's defintely worth seeing... the UK R2 DVD/Blu Ray is out 7th Feb.

Hi Dj! I LOVED the Last house on the left remake. But truth be told, I don't like the concept of this movie. I mean yes LHONTL dealt with rape, but in SOYG it just comes off as gratuitous along with the violence (judging by what I've heard/seen from trailers). Hopefully I'm wrong.

Pass on this. Seen the original and that was enough. If you can get through the first 45 mins of the original, then the rest pays off.
I own the original on DVD and love it. A great piece of exploitation cinema. I'll probably just rent this and then decide whether it is worth buying.
I thought it was good. Here's my review: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1242432/usercomment...

My friend wanted to see this and it comes out near his birthday so this is a perfect gift. Although, I question my friend's interest. Who finds this stuff interesting? I mean what's the point of a movie where a girl gets raped painfully and then she just gets revenge on the bad guys? It's just for entertainment which is just sick. At least "Last house on the left" had a point. It showed what can happen to two girls just having a "fun night" and that parents should be more protective of their teens' surroundings. There are sick people out there. "I spit on your grave" just sounds pointless.
I thought this was "Ass:The Movie" at first.
it was a decent remake. really fixed many of the logic problems with the original. Mainly the approach that Jennifer in the original uses to lure the guys in to kill them. The remake makes more sense in the way she does it.
but one scene in particular almost made me not like the movie at all....it invovles whinnying like a horse and really could have just been omitted from the final film

I saw this in theaters, it was a decent flick.
Saw this here in the UK at a local horror festival about a month ago, it's really good! Not only does it compliment the original in its cinematography but (apart from a slightly dodgy CGI moment - which to be fair probably couldn't haven't been achieved any other way!), it also betters the original whilst maintaining the harrowing sexual violence. Definately worth a purhcase for any serious horror fans... Its getting a nationwide UK release in January 2011.
I'm down for both on blu-ray
Heard this was good. Will be buying both this and the original on Blu.
I really do want to see this.
I actually heard this was a good, if not better remake. I've never seen this, nor the original. I might blind buy this and the original on blu since they both are getting that treatment at the same time. Also, I like how the cover of the remake is a nod to the original's cover.
What the hell? They remade this? It has Joey from the Elm Street films in it as well.
