well...i wonder if this boxset is better than the R2UK from Tartan..
i have the Polish Edition Box Set..this is one of the best Thrillers i've seen...absolutely great.....GO AND GET IT !!!!
Anyone know if Dragon Dynasty will repackage IA1 with new artwork or will it still be the c**ppy Miramax cover?
Awesome
In terms of extras it wouldn't be hard to beat IA2/IA3 from Tartan UK. Both only offer a making of, deleted scenes and not much more. Tartan's IA however is pretty decent with director's commentary.
I hope they at least port the IA2 director's commentary over, they never made one for IA3.

I hear it will be new cover art but the same disc. I hope so as the old would stand out a mile, it's awful as you say too.

I just bought the 5 hour chronological cut while I was in Hong Kong last summer. Plus I have all 3 of the HK 2-disc editions. This is really tempting, but I'm thinking do I really need 3 versions of the trilogy? I guess I'll have to see if Bey Logan is doing commentaries for all 3 films and what kind of bonus features are there.
if it contains the 5 hour cut with all the extra's of the HK limited box set then i'll pick it up. I remember months ago Tartan hinting at an even better IA Box set to come.
I'd be REALLY surprised if we ever see the Chronilogical cut outside of Asia. It's only been released in Hong Kong. There was a Korean LE Box set scheduled but it never ended up coming.
I picked up my copy from DDDHouse.com.

Didn't realise there was a chronological cut... might get that.
Genius Products - an HD DVD release of this please
dammit, I imported a copy of the trilogy before The Departed came out......why didn't I wait....and why the hell didn't you put this out months ago Weinsteins?!?! You money-grubbing f**ks!!! but if it does have the chrono-version, I'll buy it!

It was released as part of an 8 Disc Hong Kong LE then later on a Korean 8 Disc LE which never ended up getting released. Some months later a 2 Disc HK appeared. Due to the length (300 minutes) it's spread across two discs and offers:
Anamorphic 2.35:1 WS
Cantonese DD5.1 or DTS
Mandarin DD5.1 Dub
English or Chinese subtitles
No extras
It's decent quality and as far as I can tell is exclusive to DDDHouse.com or more to the point I've never found it anywhere else. I've used DDDHouse.com a few times and recommend them. They're HK based and sell in HK dollars.
I paid about £8.

I doubt it will be much different to any other version. At most we'll get Bey commentaries extra which granted are good but not worth upgrading for.
Agreed though the UK, French, Australian, Hong Kong, Korean and Japanese DVDs came out years ago. Obviously it was delayed to cash-in on the Hollywood remake.

Yep, used them before... good retailer in terms of price. xploitedcinema.com, is actually cheaper even if you account for the more expensive postal charges. I guess DDDHouse must have put their price up.
Is that the same version as DDDHouse is selling? Sounds like it's one of those Hong Kong produced Thai releases that CD-WOW often stock.

lol at the original R1 Infernal Affairs cover.
i guess no one got the memo that the chick that takes up 2/3 of the cover isn't even in the movie...

yeah that ultra-crazy asian box won't be surpassed, with the TV cut and all that stuff....
What TV Cut?
Re: The R1 cover art I think she is in it for all of a few 7seconds/minutes. I forget who she plays.

I can't check right now as at work that page is classified as adult content (What!). Those Thai releases are for the South East Asian market. I think Thailand has the biggest population hence it gets the dub or it could be the best off. I don't really know.
The 5 Hour Cut has no Thai dubs/subs as far as I can rememberer.

Yeah, they sure are cheesed at Scorsese and co for "ripping them off" with "The Departed"...
no one c**pped their pants at the cheesy/s**tty cover ???????
come on. LOL! wow. first they cut and recut asian films to their whims and now they do this to this most revered trilogy. it is both blasphemous and symptomatic of the Weinstein's total lack of understanding of the asian cinematic culture.
bah. or maybe they simply don't care.

No we're all toilet trained here.
It was just a matter of time that these became mainstream in the US (with a nice boxset, I mean). I don't think its a must-buy, but it's a must-see.
So is the Departed based on all three films? (If so it would explain why the movie is sooo good, that and the fact that Scorcese directed the film.)

Yes, which is why people "despise" "The Departed", claiming it to be a rip off.
HK LE Boxset
I was lucky enough to find one of the last sites that had the 8 disc HK boxset, I got it for about $100. If you are a big fan of HK cinema and/or Infernal Affairs, you should definitely try to track one down. I have a lot of rare asian cinema DVDs/boxsets and this one is my favorite. The case, the DVD packaging and the 100 page booklet are all absolutely beautiful. The film transfers are gorgeous and the extras are great(1 disc of special features per film!). Then you get the 300 min Trilogy cut spread over 2 discs. It really is the crowning jewel of any DVD collection. If you can find one for 200 bucks or less I would definitely recommend it. I think I got it at sensasian.com, I checked so many sites I can't remember. Yesasia.com (free worldwide shipping) & hkflix.com (best comparisons of various DVD versions on the web) are two of my favorites. Happy hunting! By the way, the first two Dragon Dynasty releases are fantastic, let's hope they keep it up for IA.
P.S. The Departed is a incredible movie if you relax and judge it on its own merits. It's got enough small twists that if you've seen IA you'll still be surprised. Just my 2 cents...

IT'S A REMAKE PEOPLE!!! Why is it always like this? When someone does something good, they try to bring it down by any means possible, can't we just enjoy films as a form of art and hardwork?
It WILL win the Academy Award, that's why it didn't win the Golden Globe, or did you think they were gonna give a Mexican the award? (think Frida)

Good to see the IA2 commentary finally English subtitled but otherwise there is nothing here to beat the UK Tartan effort which has DTS for all films.
The extras are clearly ported from the HK DVDs, which is all Tartan did in the UK and Madman in Australia did too. They never recorded a commentary for IA3.

Why wouldn't they? Oh and Julie Taymor is American.
People who think The Departed is a ripoff clearly haven't seen both The Departed and Infernal Affairs. There are clearly scenes lifted exactly from IA but there are also enough new ones to make it worth while.
It's a proper crime drama. I happen to think it's too long and the quick pace of IA was better but that's just my opinion. Both are decent films.
Should Marty win an Oscar? Nope not in the slightest, not because it's a remake but because it's simply not good enough. I just think of all the masterpieces he has made from Goodfellas and prior which are much more worthy.

Nuts. I hope Miramax was releasing this because I don't know if TWC is a step up from Miramax. I guess I have to contact TWC.

Ummm, just so we're clear, we're in the same boat. I'm sure as Hell not knocking "The Departed", Scorsese's best since "GoodFellas" (and "Casino", "Gangs of New York" and "The Aviator", while flawed, are all great films in my mind). I was making fun of those people who called it trash because it was a remake/re-imagining/what have you.

"that inspired The Departed", haha, it's more like a translated version of exactly the same movie ;-)
