This movie is hardly "terrible". Not even close. I thought it was one of the scariest films I've ever seen And extremely well made. I'd like to hear what horror movies you think are great.
This movie was terrible
so i found a theatre this was still playing in...and i guess it must've been the build up...but i left the theatre very underwhelmed. i never jumped. there were some cool images...but that was it.
Spoiler Darth Maul isn't scary...Darth Maul is cool. Darth Maul meets Freddy Krueger is that much cooler.
i renege on my blind buy. i may be alone on this...but i also think i'm alone on thinking that the paranormal movies have been some of the most scary movies recently made.

I was never that interested in the movie and the commercials were irritating as hell! Insidious. Insidious. Insidious. But when my friends saw it they said it was one of the scariest movies they've ever saw, even scarier than The Exorcist and Paranormal Activity. AND ITS SO TRUE! That movie scared the c**p out of me. But then again, I dont know if I'd pick it up.
i honestly didn't think twice about this movie. it didn't seem to stick around theatres for too long. but after so many glowing reviews from members here...i will definitely be checking this one out...maybe even a blind buy.
Good movie. Will be getting on day 1.

The consensus is correct. The last 20 minutes are ridiculous.
I agree with this assessment. There were some inventive scares, but it devolved quickly in the third act. If you want to see Drag Me to Hell via the makers of Saw, this is your ticket.

That sure was an awkward trailer to have attached to Bridesmaids.

I love getting scared, but it rarely happens. Insidious is one of the scarier movies I've seen. Had a great time watching this. Can't wait for "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark" from the same studio.
could of been much scarier but wasn't. i was disappointed it wasn't scary.

I envy anybody who can get that scared by a movie. I genuinely love getting the creeps. Its a rush, but it very rarely happens to me with modern horror movies. I think [REC] was the last one that came close.
I like to have a good time and I think getting scared is something so many horror films have lacked so I guess I KIND of like getting scared but so many "horror" movies don't scare me that I forget the feeling. It's the same as comedies tho, I like to laugh and it's fun to be scared but lately if a movie(such as this) gets the job done it makes it tough to sleep sometimes.

Haha, I totally see what you're saying. After seeing "The Blair Witch Project", I seriously could not sleep the same night. And when I thought about it, it made it that much worse.

I saw this in the loudest theater near me (to the point where I had to step out because my ears were hurting) and this movie f**kin terrified me. I can't wait to buy it day one.
I dont agree with that consensus. The entire film was terrifying even when stuff was just happening and stuff was popping out and you knew it was coming. It was honestly the scariest movie ever made to me. The last twenty minutes were so suspenseful and an utter nightmare. I never thought The Exorcist was scary, but if it was considered the scariest movie ever made then this definitely beats it.
i DEFINITELY think the 1st half is freaking AWESOME but once the reveal/explanation is shown and we venture into said reveal/explanation world it becomes kinda cheesy. then the last 5 minutes are AMAZING again! LOL. overall a VERY good movie and worth watching. some things i really didn't like though (the Freddy Kruger look-alike, the lame, not scary 1950's ghost family, the gas mask was STUPID and unintentionally hilarious, the terribly not funny but trying to be Leigh Whannell and bearded guy assistants, and some ridiculous behavior/actions from the parents. if there's a bloody adult sized hand print on the bed spread of your child wouldn't you take your kids out on the front porch while waiting for your husband to come home and NOT leave them inside the house to fend for themselves while YOU alone wait outside?!!!! LOL).
and this is NOT the "Most Terrifying Film Since THE EXORCIST". that reviewer should watch more movies. try THE CHANGELING, THE SHINING, etc. etc etc.

i liked the last half. it had some pretty cool visuals. to each his own. i did love the ending.

Exact same thing I've heard from many people who have seen it. I can't wait to give it a watch, about to add it to my queue.

It truly scared the hell out of me, that's all I expect from a horror film. Sure the second half isn't as good but it's still solid. I would love to see it again but don't know if I can even stomach it again. I never really have been that scared by a horror film before, most modern horror is just by the books. Some of the images in this film really stay with u and it's not always by choice. LOL
Nice cover art too
I definitely agree. This is one of the scariest films I've seen. It goes to show you that a PG-13 horror film could still do the trick. Hopefully "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark" will pursue.

I thought it was ok.
It's definitely creepy in parts, but at the same time, it's one of those movies were the soundtrack up at full volume is both unsettling and annoying.

I keep hearing good things about this--I'll definitely rent it. Also, that cover art is god-awful.

This was one of the scariest movies I've ever seen. It deserves all of the praise (and the money!) it received. It was so refreshing to see an original horror movie that actually managed to be terrifying...and it was only PG-13 as well! I hope to see many more films like this in the future, hopefully they'll put an end to the remakes/reboots that Hollywood has become so fond with lately.
