Quote: He was imprisoned 27 years for his heroic fight against apartheid. So what does Nelson Mandela do after he is elected president of South Africa? He rejects revenge, forgives his oppressors and finds hope of national unity in an unlikely place: the rugby field. Clint Eastwood (the National Board of Review’s 2009 Best Director choice) powerfully directs an uplifting film about a team and a people inspired to greatness. In a performance that won him NBR’s Best Actor Award and an Oscar nomination, Morgan Freeman portrays Mandela, who asks the national rugby team captain (Best Supporting Actor Oscar nominee Matt Damon) and his underdog squad to do the impossible and win the World Cup. One team, one country. The universal language of sports has never spoken so thrillingly as in Eastwood’s Invictus.

Oops my bad. I saw the Oscars on premiere night and didn't see Invictus as one of the best picture nomination, however, I do remember seeing it listed on a few website.
You probably saw the prediction column on In Contention (on the right hand side).

But it wasn't. At the last minute, the WB decided to whor... promote The Blind Side to accompany Sandra's eventual nomination (and unnecessary win).

Passed on this in the theaters, but maybe I'll it get on demand. Need to see if I would want to see it multiple times before I actually buy....
I was pretty bored by this. I usually like eastwoods films though. Just very boring and damons part isnt as big as the ads would have you believe

The ad is pretty galling though. Over 23 Billion USD cumulative. Then the 2 little ** saying it is the total gross of all Freeman and Damon movies combined, according to BoxOfficeMojo.
Advertising has hit a new low! But if we take the same line of thinking, Ocean's 13 will wipe the floor with Invictus. Imagine the cumulative gross of all those guys. It stars Matt Damon too!

I haven't seen the film, but my jaw dropped when I saw this film as one of the Best Picture nominations. Even the critics that gave it great reviews, said it was very cliched and formulaic. Now I know there's a cliche or two in almost every film, but the way the critics described the cliches, was shocking. Especially since this is Eastwood.
I actually think The lovely bones was A LOT more deserving of a nomination. The characters were amazing, the story was phenomenal, the dialogue was great, and was an immersing, visual treat. I don't get the hate.
Will Netflix the BD.

Another bare bones DVD from Warner Bros. while Blu-Ray has all the special features!
I was fairly disappointed by this, this film is supposed to be inspirational, but ended up being so uninspired. Morgan Freeman was merely passable as the Great Nelson Mandela. Although, Matt Damon was great in this, the only bright spot in this film really. I usually like Eastwood, but his direction in this film was pretty bland.
The DVD totally spoils the end!!! lol jk it was kind of obvious they would win, especially since it happened in real life!
This was a pretty good movie. Another accessible Eastwood movie following Gran Torino. I will buy it when it comes out.
This wasnt too bad at all. Caught this during its last week here.
Might Netflix it since me and my dad missed out on it. Artwork sucks!
A Clint Eastwood movie is better than a *lot* of movies out there. This is a sure rent!
I have heard good things about this. I'll at least give it a rental.
Two of my favorite things -- Rugby and tension between blacks and whites!
By the ad Warner boasts off the movie by being a successful hit (US intended). And it was quite the opposite, if not quite a heavy bomb with audiences.
Cost to Produce: 60 million - Recovered Domestically: 37 million - Recovered Internationally: 83 million

Worst display of rugby I've ever seen committed to film. Even England could have beaten them.
