OMG! I just bought this and it turns out that Universal has 2 discs and they put the exact same disc as the regular DVD on both of them! There is NO director's cut! Universal better fix this fast!

Yeah my bad the directors cut is 118min could have sworn it was longer but yeah i hope we get it soon.
That must be an unreleased cut of Hero then, because even the director's cut is less than two hours.

Not every movie has to have a Director's Cut, you know.
no, not every movie. just every asian film that ACTUALLY finds its way to america. we cut everything, and its awful. we even change movie titles. best example: Peter Jackson's "Braindead", or as it is known to america, the cut version "Dead Alive". look at almost every Miike, or Jackie Chan movie over here, at least 10 minutes cut out. it should be considered murder
and this version is MUCH BETTER! you get the kickboxer scene!!!
and actaully the full cut of heroes is almost 3 hours so they cut half the movie here in the us and it desrves to be seen in its full intent

I forgot about the thread and no one reported his comments to me. It appears something short-circuited in Brock's brain recently. I can't think of any other explanation for his erratic behaviour and apparent tourettes. It would seem that he's stopped visiting the site though, at least for the time being. Please let me know if he reappears and starts spouting this sort of stuff again.

I have never seen the film, so I might just wait for the DC release. Now I hope Universal finally releases the extended TV cut of Waterworld to DVD.

I too am not of the opinion longer always means better. The International Cut of Musa for example is superior to the longer (by 20 minutes) Director's Cut.
I do think Universal should be commended for releasing both cuts though, so people can decide for themselves. Personally I'd ignore this release though and pick up the HK DVD.
Lincoln6Echo wrote: at as the TC is only a minute shorter than the UC
As far as I know, it's not even a minute shorter, it amounts to one shot.
The simple fact is if the PG-13 cut didn't exist millions of Americans would be denied the chance to see it at the cinema. I know I'd have been annoyed by that.

Films are cut for the market - it is part of life and we just have to accept it....why is it so hard to?
Here's hoping Universal decides to release this director's cut on Blu-ray. The HD DVD of the film was amazing!

Whether uncut versions are on there is not the point...You still don't defend the cutting of a film at all.
And certainly not with the defense that it's groovy to censor films never meant for children's eyes to make them acceptable for children's eyes!
Of course, as always nowadays, no one else on here will speak up ( JUST AS I THOUGHT!!! The worthless f**king c**ts on here)
And here's a silly idea.
Show the little darlings something else that IS suitable for them and was made for them in the first place!
There are a LOT of films in the world suitable for children and families without censoring other films!
Perhaps these f**king idiots shouldn't breed anyway (like you lot) let alone start their children's cinematic journey down the fetid road of censored cinema.
Christ this place is full of f**king scum bags. And the scum bags are getting the s**t releases they deserve.
F**k you.
In better days c**ts like the c**ts on here would have been gassed.
Man, I don't know what you're b***hin' at as the TC is only a minute shorter than the UC, as I'm sure those two cuts will be on one disc as a seemless branching deal, while the DC will be on the second disc.
Why get worked up over something that seems so very common these days. The TC is what it is, and then the DVD comes out as an UC (only because here in the States the extended cut DVD doesn't go through the AMA). And I'd say in a lot of cases, the UC isn't any more riske than the TC.

With that logic censor EVERY film EVER MADE into a kid friendly version, why not?
F**k art! F**k original vision...lets all defend censored cinema because it then makes it kiddie friendly!
Do you make yourself sound like an elitist prick to wind me up, or does it come naturally? The disc includes the theatrical and director's cuts of the film, so what's wrong with offering the choice of a PG-13 version of the film in addition to these in order to broaden its appeal? Why not offer a version that younger people can enjoy/be allowed to see, as long as the original is preserved? If it engenders of love of different forms of cinema in a younger generation, surely that's a positive thing? It's unfortunate if I've offended your sensibilities as self-appointed 'crusader against movie censorship', but quite frankly I couldn't give a f**k. You're like a broken record Brock.

Yes. Scroll up to my link above where I provide capture comparisons for all the cuts.
Michelle Yeoh's footage has been restored for the DC BUT don't get your hopes up she doesn't fight! It's a rather odd addition to say the least.
Of all the 5 cuts Yeoh is only in the DC.

It's also worth remembering the PG-13 cut was the one shown in cinemas so it would be short changing the public to not include it on the DVD.
I'd imagine many parents are wary of films with no rating. I would be, you've got no idea how violent/sexual it is at all.

I don' think Jet Li even uses a sword in the film, does he?
He uses a sword in a key scene at the end of the first act. He basically looses his mind and fights another master. Which all turns out to be over a lie from one of his own prideful students. A very intense fight scene. This is Jet Li's best film in a long time(besides Hero in 02). In a way it's a return to his roots, just with a higher production value.
I don't like the cover.Horrible image of Jet and looks thrown together.
I'd like to see the Hong Kong Theatrical Cut and Directors Cut.
This movie was the last time I enjoyed a martial arts film in the cinema. Plus I love how it's about being proud of where you come from and not being afraid to change it for the better. Which is the main theme.

I greatly enjoyed this film and own the original release, but considering that this is a 2-Disc set with 3 different cuts of the film (and some pretty nice coverart), I'll definitely pick it up. Just wish there was a little more in the way of extras.
No worries. For those wondering the HK DVD is:
* NTSC
* Region 3
* DVD-9 Dual Layer
I've just checked in my computer.
Given that Universal are having to almost start again with HD, I wouldn't expect a BD any time soon, not this year anyway.

Yes it has three different cuts. Although the Unrated and USA PG-13 Cut are virtually identical, the later only misses one shot.
In total there are FIVE cuts though
-
1. Hong Kong Theatrical Cut
2. Thai Theatrical Cut
3. Western Cut (UK/Australian Theatrical Cuts and USA Unrated DVD Cut)
4. USA PG-13 Theatrical Cut
5. Director's Cut

Thank you, Bradavon. I'd buy an import any day that has DTS over a R1 non-DTS. I'll only be buying another US version if Universal ponies up a Blu-ray, ideally with a DTS-HDMA or similar.
For those who're wondering the USA Unrated cut is the same Theatrical cut released in the UK and Australia.
The Director's Cut HK DVD has been out for months and has:
1. DTS ES
2. Much better cover art
3. English subtitles
4. The same extras as found on Disc 2 here

I would love to get a director's cut on this, so I am glad it is coming out.
Who the hell wants the PG-13 rated Theatrical version as well as the Unrated theatrical version?
What pond dweller would want to watch the minute shorter censored version of the same cut?
What a waste.
Just have the Unrated and the DC.
Censored versions have no place on DVD. Especially in America!
Seems some people like to watch censored s**t nowadays though, and its not as if you can use that detestable "but it's High Def and has more pixels" excuse here.
"Oh one does find some films too, too, violent.
One does prefer to watch the nicely censored version as it's far more soothing on the nerves.
OH! All this violence. Its just too much you know".
F**k off.

Release it on Blu-Ray and then I'll re-buy it.
Really liked this film. I don`t own the prior release, and I like that cover so it`ll be a buy for me.
I loved this film, I already own the HD DVD version. I might get this if and only I find it in the Walmart DVD bin at $5.00.
Anyways... Jet Li's face expression on the cover makes him look as if he is about to release a gigantic turd.
P.S is it me or does he have his arms/hands shorten and a big ol' head?

That is so NOT the artwork!! IT IS?!! F**K OFF!!
So this 2-disc has three versions of the film? I'm confused.
Damn it why not a Blu release? Would buy in a heartbeat.
I thought this was great. Looking forward to this release.
