Quote: John Adams is a sprawling HBO miniseries event that depicts the extraordinary life and times of one of Americas least understood, and most underestimated, founding fathers: the second President of the United States, John Adams. Starring Paul Giamatti (Sideways, Cinderella Man, HBOs American Spendor) in the title role and Laura Linney (You Can Count on Me, Kinsey) as Adams devoted wife Abigail, John Adams chronicles the extraordinary life journey of one of the primary shapers of our independence and government, whose legacy has often been eclipsed by more flamboyant contemporaries like George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Alexander Hamilton and Benjamin Franklin. Set against the backdrop of a nations stormy birth, this sweeping miniseries is a moving love story, a gripping narrative, and a fascinating study of human nature. Above all, at a time when the nation is increasingly polarized politically, this story celebrates the shared values of liberty and freedom upon which this country was built.

It will come down just like everything else, probably $39.99 special during the holidays. I can't wait to see this; Paul Giamatti is one of my favorite actors, and I love colonial period movies/series.

Yeah, these aren't your average 43 minute episodes, 500 minutes divided by 60 is 71 minutes. So we're talking basically a 90 minute regular TV episode with commercials, but of course, these don't have commercials.
Plus the fact of course, this is HBO Pictures. HBO stuff always costs a premium. When Band of Brothers first came out, it was $90 and that was the real sale price. Now the set can be had for about $30 or so.
But anyway, I'll be buying this set for sure. I sas the second episode and loved the way it was done. The casting for George Washington was brilliant. David Morse makes a great Washington. Looks like he was born to play the part.
The only thing I don't care for about the man John Adams is apparently he was a anti-Catholic. Read that in an Internet review article about the 3rd episode yesterday.

I think you meant 500 minutes divided by 7 parts is 71 minutes. It's basically 7 animated Disney movies... with powder wigs and hoop skirts... and violence. It is pretty long by even mini-series standards.
I can't wait to see it in full! I love Laura Linney.

So far I am loving this series.I have been waiting for a decent revolutionary war film for some time.Every actor plays their part perfectly and when their famous characters give a famous speech, it's enthralling. So far Benjamin Franklin is my favorite. The opening credits is wonderful too.I will probably buy this. $60 is about average for an HBO DVD.
Wanted to see this, but I'm too poor to afford HBO. I'm also too poor to afford HBO DVD sets, so it might be a loooong time before I will actually be able to buy this.....
I'm still in the middle of watching this on TV, it's been excellent so far. I think I may just pick up a copy.

Oops, yeah you're right. But of course, each episode may not be the same length. With the Band of Brothers series, episode may have varied by up to 25 minutes or so. Some were around 50 minutes, while others ran 70 some odd.

Then you will love this. It's lengthy, but very well done and Giamatti is fantastic.

I dunno, I tried watching some of it and everything is shot with a Dutch angle. Don't get me wrong, I think Tak Fujimoto is one of the best cinematographers in the business, but almost everything is shot at a Dutch angle. It's great when used sparingly, but come on, really? The last movie I can remember that was shot entirely in Dutch angles was Battlefield Earth, and we all know how well that worked for it.
I just found it hard to get into the great acting and story when I have the urge to tilt my head all the time.

Surely that's a massive, lovely, fantastic plus!

Now only if they would make a movie called "Samuel Adams". I would drink....err....watch that.
Had high hopes for this series, but so far it has been extremely boring.
That scene in the first episode where the tar is poured on that dude was sick! By the way, great acting and I like the court room drama it's very good entertainment. Next up is Generation Kill, a lot of exciting mini series- shows I like it.
