I may only see this for the 3D - maybe a rental and I will also have to leave my brain at the front door from reports....
3D can look great on Blu-Ray ? Read on
I work in the field of Stereoscopic 3D imagery and HD filming so I thought I would share some info on the subject of 3D for home use.
You can't compare Real-D 3D in the theatre to a 3D film on Blu-ray, they are 2 completely different versions, Real-D uses Polarized glasses, I am guessing that the Blu-Ray will be in an anaglyph 3D format, nowadays with HD the 3D quality you can get with the anaglyph format can be stunning, I have done many tests myself and it looks great, The person who said that Spy Kids 3D DVD did not work probably did not set his equipment up correctly for the best 3D experience, you must make sure that you set both your player and your LCD or Plasma to Component setting, ideally using 3 separate RGB leads, but scart leads will do. Playing anaglyph through a composite setting means that all the information is flowing through 1 combined lead, setting your Blu-Ray or DVD to component means that the image is being transferred to your TV through separate RGB channels meaning the 3D anaglyph movie has a much better chance of retaining the high colour bandwidth necessary for home 3D viewing. This component setting will also make your normal 2D disks look better a swell, Old CRT screens are not recommended for 3D but can still have some 3D effect if you have no choice, better to play it on your PC screen if you don’t have an HD LCD or Plasma,
I applaud Warner’s for at least releasing the film in 3D, I have been asking for more 3D films to be released for years, after all you can put both versions on the same disk with Blu-Ray, I hope this will be the first of many films to come out in 3D, Warner’s have some of the greatest 3D films ever made from the 1950's like House of Wax and Kiss Me Kate, let's hope they release these as well as the newer films. And I hope that the codec and anaglyph conversion to Blu-Ray is all I hope for, and is at least equal to what I have achieved in my 3D conversions to HD. Feel free to contact me with any questions.
For more information on all things 3D go to my site at www.media55.co.uk, hope this helps.

Back in the '80s, there was one Superbowl that had a 3D Half-Time Show, where it used polarized 3D glasses (not the red/blue deals) and it worked really well. In fact, the glasses kind of gave regular non-3D broadcasts a bit of a 3D effect. IIRC, the local Hucks/7-Eleven stores were distributing the glasses for this event.
3-D at home never works and was really the only reason i would see this film...
so im gonna have to pass.

I'm a manager at a movie theater and there are a few reasons why digital 3d will never be at home. One, the 3D version of the film could only be played of specifically designed screens, that are actually silver, and warped inwards. Then in front of the digital projector the image gets projected thew another screen that distorts the image even more, my making the image warped in an opposite way, the the screen. Causing the image to actually be more oval shaped if it was flattened, but because of the shape of the screen it appeared to be rectangular. So unless they redesign TV's to be warped, Digital 3D will never be a home experience.
Without the 3D, this movie drops from a 3/5 to a 2/5...is fun, but I think that the 3D gives it a little edge...somewhat...
Completely idiotic movie with horrible acting and even worse visual effects.
I really enjoyed this film. I saw it on the same afternoon as Hellboy 2 (which disappointed me- I loved the first Hellboy btw).
Well, I saw the Miley Cyrus 3-D film on the tv, and, while it didn't "JUMP" out at you, you could def. see the 3-D "action." I mean, it was like looking in one of those 3-D binoculars we all had as children. And, some of the parts that were meant to jump at you did perse. So, still, 3-D on tv isn't a waste if done right. I'll be picking this up.
It was AWESOME!!! I've seen it about 4-5 times! Granted I work at the theater, so I see movies for free but I had to pay the first 2 times.
And, was I the only one who say them hint at a sequel?
I will most def. pick this up on the release day.

Anyone happen to know specifics as to why?

How will they do the rentals for this? Will they trust people to return the glasses or just carry extra pairs?
Looked ok. Might rent.
I very very good film. I will pick it up. I saw it in 3-D luckily.
Dolby Digital 5.1 on the Blu-ray?
This is ridicilous...
Get your act together Warner!

If i buy it, it's because of Josh Hutcherson; definitely not because of Brendan Fraser.
Cool stuff. Way to go New Line :cough New Line is a goner cough: I mean Warner!
I'll think about it.
That picture doesnt look like the traditional red and blue 3-D glasses that are packed with 3-D DVDs, hmm. Should be interesting. I'll wait for more details to decide if this is a purchase. Maybe they finally figured out how to male digital 3-D on Blu-Ray. Here's hoping.
A complete and total c**p-fest.
I'm confused. The first-run copies have a widescreen-only DVD in 3-D in addition to a dual-ratio 2-D disc?
Or is the first-run copies the flipper disc with 3D versions on both sides?

I missed both versions of this, I look forward to getting this.
It was a good movie.
I never got around to seeing this unfortunately. 3D films look best on the big screen, the only one of which I've seen in a theatre was Sharkboy and Lavagirl (which was c**p).
I'll rent it and might buy if I like it well enough once the price goes down.

I thought it was okay. I'm not going to get it on DVD.
they cant do proper 3D for televisions yet so its a waste to even include that version. for all the whining over how fake the star wars prequels looked with the digital sets etc....this movie makes them look photoreal. i think this is one of those movies that was specifically made to be seen in 3D, it shouldnt be seen any other way, the trailers prove that.
This was definitely a good film for me. I mean it could have been a LOT worse...a LOT. WORSE. I had fun. Saw this as a double feature with THE DARK KNIGHT.
I wonder if the 3-D will actuall look GOOD in Blu, when spy kids came out it was that lame red blue look. Hope it's the original Digital 3-D!
I liked it....really! Good adventure tale that never gets old.
