I agree, too long and boring. Even some of the SFX were pretty patchy. I don't understand how Empire magazine readers voted this the film of the year. Then again, aside from Sin City, there wasn't much else to choose from.
I just wish all of the production diaries could be included in one big monster package.
Maybe this time we actually get to see how they got Kong onto the boat and transported him to New York?
i'm in no way shape or form a fan of that movie but I am curious to see what got cut out. I agree it's too bleeping long but who knows the extended cut may end up being something worth picking up as long as they don't have any more scenes with Jimmy and the token negro spiritual *cough* morpheus ripoff *cough*
and I wonder how they can actually improve on the 5.1 for the DTS sound. the 5.1 mix is perfect enough already

i loved it....although it was long..it wasn't boring at any moment for me..i was supprised how much entertained I was watching it..just a perfect adventure movie for me....in my opinion bether than Jackson's LOTR (which was dull for me)..but that's just my point of view.....
i already own the 2-disk SE..but will pick this Deluxe Extended Edition for sure....just loved this movie as a perfect fun-film

No one should be surprised. Jackson himself mentioned an Extended Edition long ago. As for the movie.... pass.
Bring on the DTS!!!!
We knew it was coming and here it is, I'll pick it up for sure.
This film was the biggest piece of garbage since Godzilla final wars and Id rather watch King Kong 1976, King Kong lives, or even an MST3K film like Manos, the Hands of Fate or Monster A G0-G0 than this.
As if the original cut wasnt long & dull enough out comes the usual Peter Jackson 'extended cut' which we should all know it was coming just like all his other recent films like Lord of the Rings.
Anyway KK 05 was awful so I wont get this one, Id rather watch 2 lovers ice skating together, not some mixed up female and a 50 ft ape
ALL HAIL KING KONG 1933 ~ !!

Good film, but I can't say that an extended edition interests me. It was long enough in its theatrical cut.
This film was really something in theatres, however when I watched it on dvd I found it pretty bland and alot of it's flaws showed through the astonishment of the first viewing. It is really, too overly long and some scenes are just plain rediculious but it's still alot better than other c**p that comes out and if this dvd has DTS I just may purchase it.

you and I third.
haha, I dont want this.
I actually just own the standard single-disc version and thats enough for me.

In my opinion, Kong was by far one of the best five films of 2005. Absolutely loved every minute of it - and if it had any flaws, it was from being too chopped up to make for a shorter run-time. I've been waiting for this announcement! Can't wait to pick it up. Now, Mr. Jackson, ditch that stupid Halo project and get cracking on The Hobbit!
Enough is enough with Peter Jackson and his extended cuts. Lord of the Rings deserved em' but this is unecessary. Again, the original is already exceedingly long as it is. I'll keep my two disc.
While I own both the Production Diaries and the 2-disc SE, I'll probably pick up this 3-disc set for completion's sake. Like Jurgie just mentioned, I'd like to see what was cut and if it makes it flow a bit better. As there were several scenes/shots in the trailer that didn't make it into the theatrical cut.
I don't mind King Kong's running time at all: but hey, to quote Roger Ebert, a great movie can never be too long. I mean, LOTR from Jackson's own career, and then the likes of Spielberg's epics and Classical epics too.
Considering Kong's story, I expect added footage to be minimal. Say, 20 minutes extra? Still, the re-edited documentaries will be fun.

I'm a sucker for statues.
I didn't buy the original due to knowing their was gonna be a extended version so I was right, thanks P.J
I'll want to rent this, but I thought Kong was pretty mediocre and takes too long to get going.
Though, the EEs of all 3 LOTR films IMO are awesome, way better than the confusing theatrical editions.

The theatrical version needed editing - I can't imagine an extended version!
An extended version of this movie... reminds me of those people who stab somebody to death with 200 knife wounds when the 3rd or 4th one was fatal...
I did enjoy this film being a hugh fan of the original 1933 version, but I will not be picking this up. It dosn't need more footage.
3 discs? I thought it was supposed to be 4 discs? So the extended film is spread over 2 discs and that leaves 1 disc for extras. We can assume that the production diaries will not be carried over so I guess there will be a documentary and maybe a couple of featurettes?
Personally I'm not interested in an extended cut because the theatrical version should have trimmed plenty already. I'll wait for the HD DVD which will probably have the theatrical version and the include new documentary on it.
i just had enough of King Kong already
F**king garbage. Double dip your entire filmography while you're f**king at it.
And Post 1000.
And Post 1000.
What a waste of time and money.

Maybe
. I will probably pick this up. I hope that with it being extended it will fill in the gaps it had so it is easier to watch.
Maybe

I felt the theatrical movie was way self-indulgent (a little like Mr J became with the ending of the ROTK). Now he's releasing an extended version!
Sorry, my time/life is too valuable to give any more to Mr. Jackson...
It wasn't even that good a movie.
