Wildjem 77 - So you think Peter J's new King Kong isnt fleshed out, well you are WRONG dude, sorry..it is really just his vision & it sucked. And extended will be even duller with more pointless dumb scenes in PJ's vision. If peter wants his Ann Darrow to have love & have mind-blowing,beastially with a 50 ft ape, maybe he should make a PBS Documentary call it Spanking the biggest Monkey or something.
Oh and it is not called being 'stuck in the classics' it is called knowing when the classics are better, but you are probably too young to see that. Ive been around long enough to know what's better, maybe you havent..youve probably been exposed to those useless newer generation horror movies, well take the whole lot of them, because they all suck

Final Wars sucked also, but you are also someone who has been exposed to all these new bad horror and sci fi films & probably not bright enough to know a good G-film from a bad one.
The poster is cool though

My sentiments exactly. 13 minutes ain't worth it, but I'll still pick this up.

13 minutes! That's it?? With forty minutes of deleted scenes - we could be getting at least an extra half hour. I'm not happy. Although I do like that artwork quite a bit. Of course I'm still picking it up - but if I had bought the theatrical cut I don't know that an extra 13 minutes would be worth a double dip. Kind of like the Black Hawk Down extended cut that just came out with only eight additional minutes.

But obvioulsy not around long enough to know when to give something a rest. You didn't like Jackson's King Kong and we get that, but do you really need to post it more than half a dozen times in multiple threads while belittling those who happen to like it along the way?

I really do hope they clean up some of the CGI with this release...the dinosaur stampede, although defintely one of my least favorite parts of the film...I think could certainly benefit from some fixed up CGI...it was pretty poor there as well as in a few other shots in the film...and it really hurt when being compared to how amazing Kong looked throughout the film.
lol. People on this board complain that there's one minute or two minutes of added footage to other "Unrated" and "Extended" editions, then they come onto this thread and complain the movie is too long and it doesn't need an extended edition and THEN when it's announced that it's 13 minutes longer they complain that it's only a measly 13 minutes.
I'll get it for the commentary and the other features and whatever. I'm just going to follow Universal's clear plan to take every cent I have.

Man do I feel pretty lonley here among all this hate. I gotta say I absolutely LOVED this movie (and yes I've been a big fan of Kong '33 for years too). It was simply a grand, old-fashioned adventure story AND a fantastic love story to boot.
And to those who simply don't get it, a love story doesn't necessarily have to mean romantic love. Those who say Ann had the hots for KK simply don't have a clue.
I for one cannot wait for the EE of this film. Running time doesn't bother me, If a film is well done I can sit through 6 hours of it and be happy.
PJ's love for the original is all over the screen. Imagine if any one of you had the chance to make your dream movie, how do you imagine it would turn out? As with the LOTR films, I think PJ did a damn fine job.
Now....where's the HOBBIT?!?

I actually just own the standard single-disc version and thats enough for me.
Same here, but I'd be interested in seeing what was cut as well as view the 40 minutes of deleted scenes. I really did enjoy every second of this movie, but it is rather lengthy and you feel it once you get up. I love long movies, but sometimes they can't really be viewed multiple times so close to each other. I've only seen each Extended LOTR only once each.
I just hope they don't make King Kong: The Even More Extended Extended Uber Special Director's Cut and incorporate said 40 minutes of deleted footage...
On a side note, I LOVE the soundtrack to this, too.

Not to mention the fact that you really can't make a case that this is a bad movie. It was one of the most critically acclaimed movies of 2005. Check out rottentomatoes.com. It has an 84% fresh rating. That's as high as I can remember for a commercial movie (i.e. non-arthouse type fair.) So you dislike the movie? It doesn't make it a bad movie.

I loved Kong too. It was killing me not buying the original release, but I'm glad I waited for this one. There's so many complaints about the length, but when they only add a small amount onto the running time for the extended cut (while still providing the other scenes that Jackson thought wouldn't work) there's an outcry? Ugh. People who say Kong was too long are the same people who think The Good, The Bad and The Ugly is long and slow.
DAMN YOU MTV!!!
DAMN YOU MTV!!!
Not much in the way of extras right now - save for the added footage and deleted scenes, the set has only a commentary and a gag reel? I have a feeling the 3rd disc is pretty much wasted in this set...
BTW, in the U.S., "King Kong" was considered a disappointment by studio heads (they expected a $300 million gross, and it turned out to be only $218 total) -- although it was a bigger hit overseas. The movie would've done better at the box office had it been a half-hour to an hour shorter.

maybe there't a mistake. maybe it's forty minutes longer, and there's 13 minutes of deleted scenes? Maybe? Please? 230 effects shots seems like an awful lot (even for this movie) for only 13 minutes.
Yeesh, 13 mins, wasn't expecting that. But keep in mind PJ has been reciving endless criticism about the film's running time since it came out so I wouldn't be suprised if he had intended to make it longer, but then simply opted to make them viewable only as deleted scenes instead to avoid further remarks.
I am sure those 13 mins will be 97% SFX (mostly dinosaurs, some kong and skull island) and the further character devolpment will be left as deleted scenes as not to be too 'boring'. kind of sad really, I was really looking forward to seeing everything PJ can toss into the film, and not just the action scenes.
I bought the 2 disc special edition when I was fully aware I would be buying the extended edition, simply because the special features on the SP are different from on the EE so that alone is worth my movie for such an amazing film.
And although I like the cover art, I am really getting tired of seeing all of the promo shots being recyled over and over again (in this case the Kong image is from the UK poster and them crossing the log is a famous promo shot). I was pleased when the standard DVD had new art, oh well, I am sure it looks much better in person.

So, 13 minutes are added back in, but there's still 40 minutes of deleated scenes in the special features. Maybe then they were able to fit the film onto one disc (the fact that the LotR EEs were spread over two discs were what kept me away from them). Does anyone know if there's a DTS track. But I might pick this one up, I hear they finally explain how they got Kong back to New York. And I love that cover art, a lot better than the current SE I got back in March.
I'm very impessed by the cover art. Its not as good as the other releases though but still very solid.
It is never explained in the film how Kong gets back to NY nor was it in the 33' version. Jackson, however hinted here and there how the lift on the ship is what got him on the Venture. if you look at the shot where Denham and Jack are discussing the scrpit in the backround is a photo of the ship using it to lift an elephant. Which isnt a bad thing at all, I like how the Skull Island part of the film slowly fades out with the music, very dramatic.
When Jackson remarked about how it was going to answer the question as to how he got back to NY he was just joking around (the following shot of Kong pushing the Venture from behind is a good indication).

YES! Exactly, father-daughter love!
I loved this movie (and the original '33). I held off buying it so I could get this one. While the 13 minutes are little, the 40 minutes could be 2 second "walking" scenes that just make it longer and not better.

230 effects shots=13 minutes. I think something is wrong there haha.
"King Kong" was a real disappointment in every respect ... especially it exaggerated run time. It needed a good editor to trim out the fat. I can't even imagine how bloated and self-indulgent this extended cut is gonna be.
The LOTR films benefited from "extended" treatments because there was so much more of the story to tell. I wonder if Jackson feels all his films from now on will need to be "extended."

WOAH! I'm really digging the cover art!
I didn't mind the length as much as I did the acting and the script. They both felt so forced, as if Peter Jackson was shoving character development into our faces whereas in LOTR, the characters were loved naturally.
Hey dsman71, your high horse called...
S**t, I was going to say something else, but I think Matt took care of this one...

Ah, I love the time generalizations. You remember an argument in the G98 board? I was one of the few people with you on suitmation vs. CGI?
I also drove five hours to see Gojira in a theatre, and am EAGERLY awaiting the September release of the film (I asked rialto immediately if there was going to be one after seeing it theatrically, too) etc etc blah blah...point being, I was born in 1984. It's not a generational thing.

Man, I loved "Godzilla: Final Wars". I even have the DVD and a duplication of the poster on my wall.
