Hmm, that's a pretty pathetic figurine for such an awesome movie. Looks like it was rushed. I know it's probably mass produced and not hand made but still. Could made it a little more detailed.

This is the director's cut.  I doubt that Jackson would ever shorten one of his movies.

Does anyone know what some of the dleted scenes are? I hearb that one of the scenes is when they first reach Skull Island Bay a giant Sea monster attacks the Venture. It might bewhen they are leaving SkullIsland. Not totally sure. Box set is awsome looking.

Yes, trailers, boo only two commentary participants. Can Jackson and Boyens really talk for more than three hours straight? It would have been really nice to hear Naomi Watts on the track, since she's one of the best things about the picture.

I thought the theatrical cut played better when I watched it at home. I wasn't too thrilled by the idea of more footage, but 13 minutes put back in isn't all that bad. And that Dolby Digital track on the theatrical cut was excellent. Not sure exactly how much more a DTS track would add (although it is always nice to have that option).

I really do hope that Universal announces the HD-DVD of the film at the same time. I would rather not triple dip on this title (theatrical, extended, HD).

I know.  I had stopped reading some threads because of the endless hatred of King Kong in every thread he posted in.  I can understand and respect not liking a movie.  There are plenty of good movies that just weren't my thing.  But Kong was pretty well received by both the public and the critics (which seems fairly rare these days), so it's hard to make a case that the movie itself was bad.

Hmm, I am kind of disappointed that the featurette PJ said he was going to include in the EE regarding the endangerment of the Gorillas is nowhere to be found, kind of like what he did for that sick child on the ROTK EE...hopefully we will get to see that as well to make people more aware.

Well, I thought 3 hours was enough. But I got the special edition in March, but since there's about 40 mins. of extra footage and it's a 3-disc set, and it's relatively not expensive, I'll probably pick up the one w/out the statue.

Well, I was wrong... there are many more bonus features on the EE than I thought there were (and even the trailers to promote the movie are included, a rarity among Universal DVDs). No isolated music track, no multiple commentaries and no DTS = no buy for me.

The package art is very nice, though.

Well Chris I misjudged and I apologize. We can agree that these new films suck and Ive been watching G films since I was a kid and found GFW to be so awful with bad acting, bad story, out of place music by Emerson and no Godzilla until 1 hour and the monster fights were shorter than a WWE RAW match ! LOL
The director for GFW had NO CLUE as to what makes a monster movie - epic monster fights. Monster X - Kaiser Ghidorah was a sluggish beast.
Back to King Kong, well Peter Jackson actually. This movie did not do as good as they thought in the USA, so it was quickly released to R1 DVD within 3 months. As with all PJ movies, you can expect a longer,longer,longest version w/ more stuff months later so that they can gobble gobble GOBBLE up even more of your hard earned money by double-dipping. With so many new titles that are coming out for the first time ever, I hate wasting money by double dipping for the same movie again, unless it has something more significant than the first movie.
Beavis and Butthead do America , The Transformers the Movie, Asylum, and maybe Texas Chainsaw Massacre(original) are examples..
It would not surprise me that still later this year or next year they release the Ulitmate Edition of KK 05 with the PJ chronicles that people spent 40.00 for that nifty box set.
Im glad I hated this film, saved me a lot of money...

I liked the movie, but I do agree that it was a bit long, especially in the first and second hours. The last hour of the film, I thought, was perfect. I already own the 2-Disc and will most likely buy this cause of the extras and awesome artwork. Hopefully, the added scenes will improve the film, however I think the film would have been awesome if it was only 2hrs and 25 minutes.

i just hope they will eventualy put all the deleted scenes into the movie.....that would be great

That is a damn sweet cover, though I'd have liked a theatrical tie in to Kong on Broadway. Anyway, special features and further deleted scenes will give this DVD plenty of rewatchability.

It is never explained in the film how Kong gets back to NY nor was it in the 33' version. Jackson, however hinted here and there how the lift on the ship is what got him on the Venture. if you look at the shot where Denham and Jack are discussing the scrpit in the backround is a photo of the ship using it to lift an elephant. Which isnt a bad thing at all, I like how the Skull Island part of the film slowly fades out with the music, very dramatic.

When Jackson remarked about how it was going to answer the question as to how he got back to NY he was just joking around (the following shot of Kong pushing the Venture from behind is a good indication).

So, 13 minutes are added back in, but there's still 40 minutes of deleated scenes in the special features. Maybe then they were able to fit the film onto one disc (the fact that the LotR EEs were spread over two discs were what kept me away from them). Does anyone know if there's a DTS track. But I might pick this one up, I hear they finally explain how they got Kong back to New York. And I love that cover art, a lot better than the current SE I got back in March.

I loved Kong too. It was killing me not buying the original release, but I'm glad I waited for this one. There's so many complaints about the length, but when they only add a small amount onto the running time for the extended cut (while still  providing the other scenes that Jackson thought wouldn't work) there's an outcry? Ugh. People who say Kong was too long are the same people who think The Good, The Bad and The Ugly is long and slow.

Same here, but I'd be interested in seeing what was cut as well as view the 40 minutes of deleted scenes.  I really did enjoy every second of this movie, but it is rather lengthy and you feel it once you get up.  I love long movies, but sometimes they can't really be viewed multiple times so close to each other.  I've only seen each Extended LOTR only once each.  

I just hope they don't make King Kong: The Even More Extended Extended Uber Special Director's Cut and incorporate said 40 minutes of deleted footage...

On a side note, I LOVE the soundtrack to this, too.

People on this board complain that there's one minute or two minutes of added footage to other "Unrated" and "Extended" editions, then they come onto this thread and complain the movie is too long and it doesn't need an extended edition and THEN when it's announced that it's 13 minutes longer they complain that it's only a measly 13 minutes.

I'll get it for the commentary and the other features and whatever. I'm just going to follow Universal's clear plan to take every cent I have.

And extended will be even duller with more pointless dumb scenes in PJ's vision. And while the old King Kong was a technical achievement, it's story was rushed. It think Peter's version is better fleshed out. And extended is even better ( with the above scenes ).

The only G film I didnt like- Final Wars. Angilas was cool, but otherwise just a bad G film..

some people are really bitter. Although not my favorite of his, LOTR and Heavenly Creatures are amazing, it's worth it for commentary and just overall extendedness. I don't know about some people who have ADD but the logner a movie is the better. If anything Peter improved upon King Kong because he turned something stupid and shallow and tried to make a more indepth tale.

I'll probably get this. But I'd love to know what the artwork looks like. I got the regular Special Edition back in March, I had no idea I'd have to buy it again. It depends on how much longer it is.

About 1/2 of his movies have been double dipped...not exatly the "ENTIRE FILMOGRAPHY" really...

I'll get the 3 disc set just to see what was cut. I liked King Kong, it was too long though; The extended might be excruciating to sit through but I know I'll get suckered into buying it anyway. Curiosity killed the cat, and his wallet I guess.

The only thing that will get me to double dip on this is if there is a commentary track and further "making of" that I do not have. Jackson does great commentaries, so that alone would make this worth a double dip. But I hope the movie isn't extended as it has been noted already and I have publicly cried for some time, this movie was already way too long. Please atleast give us the option of not seeing the extended scenes if they are added

And that is sad to say for me that I don't want extended or added back deleted scenes. Normally I'm a junky for that. But this film already pushed my patience, I don't need another 20 or 30 minutes to make me dislike it even more. And it isn't like I hated the film, I just never could figure out the point of taking a classic film and remaking it double the length of the original. I know it is THE film which made him want to become a film maker, yet it seems we were all made to witness his fanboy-gasm to the extreme.

I for one am looking forward to this. Loved the film, and own the 2-disc SE. Will pick this one up for sure just for the commentary tracks. With LOTR, the original DVD release of the theatrical versions did not contain a commentary track, rather, PJ waited until the EE's, just as he's done with Kong. If anyone has ever listened to PJ's commentary tracks, you'll find that they are quite entertaining, and chock full of interesting tidbits. As well, I am hopeful that some extended scenes may help flesh out some of the weaknesses in the theatrical version. Kong, while not perfect, is an entertaining romp, and I can't wait to see what Jackson et al have come up with.

I agree with the majority that the original theatrical cut was too long, but entertaining nonetheless. However, the movie wasn't a huge splash at the box office (despite its $218 million gross in the U.S.), so I don't know why Universal is trying to follow New Line's success with an EE of "King Kong."

Unless the set includes a music-only 5.1 audio track of James Newton Howard's score (or some other extras that I'm interested in), I'm sticking with my single-disc edition (which already looks and sounds excellent).

Personally I'm not interested in an extended cut because the theatrical version should have trimmed plenty already. I'll wait for the HD DVD which will probably have the theatrical version and the include new documentary on it.

I don't mind King Kong's running time at all: but hey, to quote Roger Ebert, a great movie can never be too long. I mean, LOTR from Jackson's own career, and then the likes of Spielberg's epics and Classical epics too.

Considering Kong's story, I expect added footage to be minimal. Say, 20 minutes extra? Still, the re-edited documentaries will be fun.

Enough is enough with Peter Jackson and his extended cuts.  Lord of the Rings deserved em' but this is unecessary.  Again, the original is already exceedingly long as it is.  I'll keep my two disc.

This film was really something in theatres, however when I watched it on dvd I found it pretty bland and alot of it's flaws showed through the astonishment of the first viewing. It is really,too overly long and some scenes are just plain rediculious but it's still alot better than other c**p that comes out and if this dvd has DTS I just may purchase it.

This film was the biggest piece of garbage since Godzilla final wars and Id rather watch King Kong 1976, King Kong lives, or even an MST3K film like Manos, the Hands of Fate or Monster A G0-G0 than this.
As if the original cut wasnt long & dull enough out comes the usual Peter Jackson 'extended cut' which we should all know it was coming just like all his other recent films like Lord of the Rings.
Anyway KK 05 was awful so I wont get this one, Id rather watch 2 lovers ice skating together, not some mixed up female and a 50 ft ape

i loved it....although it was long..it wasn't boring at any moment for me..i was supprised how much entertained I was watching it..just a perfect adventure movie for me....in my opinion bether than Jackson's LOTR (which was dull for me)..but that's just my point of view.....

I agree, too long and boring. Even some of the SFX were pretty patchy. I don't understand how Empire magazine readers voted this the film of the year. Then again, aside from Sin City, there wasn't much else to choose from.
