I saw this when it first aired, it was indeed only 1 hour and 21 minutes long with about 40 f**king minutes of commercials for the damn car!!!!!!!! As if the pilot didn't suck enough (which it did in spades), the constant commercial breaks made it even more unbearable. Since this was picked up for an actual series, they had better do some major fine-tuning to it as it was just terrible. I would even say this was worse and more pointless than the new "Bionic Woman". The new car was cool and the Hasselhoff cameo was nice, but that was about it. That Bruening guy was also a VERY bad actor. My god, he made the most dull and boring 'hero' I have ever seen.

Yikes... but please, tell us how you really feel!
As a fan of the original show, watching the new one felt like seeing an old friend brutally beaten right in front of my own eyes.
Everyone else I know who saw it said they felt the same way.
What ironic is that the CG was bad...not the trasmorphing parts, those were pretty good, but the distant shots of the car driving were aweful!!!
this is nothing but c**p.
What....no Val Kilmer commentary?

I'm sure the only thing he could say is "I did it for the money".

Talk about god awful. The original series wasn't that great to start with...but this, wow total insult to the audience...who also had to suffer through Bionic Woman. However on the bright side, the car is pretty f**king awesome (I'm a life time Cobra fan, I will eventually buy Steve McQueen's one day).
The best part of this horrible show was the car. The acting was bad, the story was bad, the effects were bad. There isn't a snowball's chance in hell that I would pay money to watch this again. Hell, the only way I WOULD watch it is if someone paid me.
Did this get canned?

There is not enough money printed to get me to go through this torture again. Even I have limits.

No, it was a tv movie/pilot to start with that was picked up for a full 13 episode order recently. It starts later this year over here. The ratings for it were massive, so we shall be tortured with a full series version of it.

Well, I haven't had the (dis)pleasure of seeing this yet, however I have never really been interested in the first place....Original TV show was alright, I guess, massively cheesy.
This illustrates my ever-deepening belief that America has just run out of ideas and is stuck in the most godawful creative rut. When people drive up ratings for shows like this and some of the more depressing tripe that pollutes our airwaves (and brainwaves), it leaves me wondering WHAT THE F**K IS WRONG WITH US?!
Geez, some pretty negative comments here. I don't think it's fair to make direct comparisons of this to the 80's show.
I actually found the pilot fun and I am really looking forward to the series this fall. I think Justin Bruening isn't as horrible as all of you say he is. Granted he is a young actor from the soap opera world, so I think he will grow on viewers. I do really like Deanna Russo and Bruce Davison I think they will be a good supporting actors in this series. They hired Gary Scott Thompson, the creator of Las Vegas, as head writer and producer, so I think the show is in good hands. I think it will be fun and won't take itself too seriously.
This pilot episode will probably be released again in the season 1 DVD set. So, no sale from me.

Wonder if this will be part of the 1st season boxset & prevent a double-dip?

I agree somewhat. It the fact that studios are not willing to take a chance on anything. If you don't do huge numbers out of the box, it is a failure. But every once in a while a show (The Wire spring to mind) is sooo good it doesn't matter what the ratings are, so long as the quality is there. You see that a lot with cable and arthouse movies, not so much with this mainstream bull. Also, today's kids want to see rehashes of the old stuff...where us old folk were bored by it then and bored with it more so now.

Dammit, NO ONE should drive KITT but David Hasselhoff. NO ONE.

I truly don't believe you guys. "BOO HOO HOO, the show really sucked and yet it was such a hit that we have to subjected to a TV series of it. BOO HOO HOO." You big bunch of babies!!!! If you want to watch, don't watch. Simple, easy to remember, to the point.

I seen a little bit of it. If it's as good as you proclaim it, it's a definite buy for me.

Thanks. It seems odd to give us the pilot so early then.

It's a remake, if they did not want comparisons then they should have called it "Mustang Of Justice" instead. When they use the "Knight Rider" title, you bet we are going to make comparisons.

It is actually quite common over here to do a TV movie first and the show second. We call it a 'backdoor pilot'. That is how the studios see if there is interest in it. We did that with "Doctor Who" way back in 1996 (and the ratings for it were disastrous so that is why the show never happened).

Terrible movie, I hope this show does make it to t.v.
The original show was the best.

He was also co-writer of the first two "The Fast And The Furious" and "Hollow Man" movies, and those were terrible. Excuse me if I do not get excited over him being invovled....

Next up, The A-Team, you just know it's coming and like all the other 80s remakes you know it's gonna be bad.

That film is doomed if they get Ice Cube to play B.A. like I hear.

I think Channel Seven just bought the rights to show it here in Oz. Looking forward to it, mainly because it can't possibly be any worse than Team Knight Rider from a decade back!
Really disappointed that Will Arnett had to pull out of doing KITT's voice, but oh well...

However, as I mentioned he was the showrunner for Las Vegas, which was a successful show on NBC. He may not be a great screenwriter, but he certainly knows what he's doing in the TV world.
