i agree about the font. it doesn't do anything for me, but it's made much worse by its odd cramming into the bottom left.
Everyone celebrate! "Oldboy" is not being remade after all!
Ah well, I couldn't tell, so it wasn't all that bad. I was more concerned with the left rear channel of audio being completely missing >
That artwork is HIDEOUS. Not the image, the image in its original form is fine, but this is unacceptable, and the font for the title is atrocious as well. F**k's sake, can't they do better than that. This is probably their most awaited release since opening up shop in the States.

Nope, it's NTSC to PAL.

Well, indecisive Tartan has moved the date back to the 26th again!

I still reckon this is going to be the best English-friendly version yet. I was quite disappointed with the Korean set, which desaturated the image too much on both releases. It lessened the impact of the mono version and strayed too far from the theatrical release. Tartan USA don;t always copy the UK outfit, so with a bit of luck we'll get something a bit better than the interview on the UK release.
Perhaps our intrepid Gabe Powers can question them, as he handles Tartan stuff in the US.

Great news. I can now get my hands on this 21 days sooner.
I'm speculating but considering the UK DVD doesn't (also by Tartan) and ONLY the Korean LE does it's very, very unlikely (it's an informed guess). It's not on either HK DVD and I doubt Japanese DVD either. It was treated as an LE extra (despite being the DC).
I hope this gets at least the same extras the UK got (Tartan tend to remove not add extras for R1 if they change anything). I'll be sticking with my Korean LE until an English subtitled extras DVD comes with the F2B version.

It would be great but there is no way it will have F2B.
Do you have some insider information that confirms this or are you just speculating?

I just know I'll end up getting this as it's the closest to the theatrical version. If it has a commentary it's a done deal. That'll be four bloody versions I own then.
Street date moved from the 26th to the 5th September. We're still awaiting details on the extra material.
It has English subs on the film, but they subtitle all of the dialogue, even the English. The HK and UK discs don't do that.
i may have to pick up both then
Yes it does. Not sure about any extras though since I usually only watch the film.

These movies are on my list for must-see, but I don't know if I will ever get around to it.
The fade to black and white idea seems cool....

The transfer on the Korean SE is vastly different from the original theatrical presentation. Even the original version has been drained of much of its colour. The UK and HK releases are the same as the theatrical version, but both have interlacing issues. Hopefully this will be another decent effort from Tartan US, as their release of Mr. Vengeance has probably the best transfer of all.
And that documentary on the Lady V DVD is only 40 minutes because the interpreter repeats everything Park Chan-wook says! It's not a particularly decent disc, certainly when compared to their release of Oldboy. Where is the commentary for a start?

Yes only Oldboy is being remade.

FYI the UK DVD has a very good 42 minute director interview. Exclusively owned by Tartan.

It would be great but there is no way it will have F2B. Tartan tend to give equal extras to both or more to the UK DVD.
That's not got it so this won't. It won't suffer from PAL to NTSC issues though.
Still the Korean 2 Disc LE (with both Coloured theatrical cut and F2B Director's Cut) is easily the way to go.
Why wait?

Will probably be just as barren of extras as the UK release. At least it'll be native-NTSC, unlike that NTSC-PAL mess on the R2UK.

I really can't wait to see this one.
This is coming out at one of the arthouses here in July, but I probably would be too busy to catch it so I'll definitely netflix it.
I love that cover and I can`t wait to pick this up.

It was originally called Sympathy for Lady Vengeance, but Tartan dropped the first bit for the International releases. The literal translation of the Korean title is something like kind-hearted Guem-ja, so they had to come up with something else but obviously didn't try too hard. Mr. Vengeance literally translates as Vengeance is Mine (or so I'm told).
i thought you guys got it in January? oh well, still longer than I wanted to wait

Glad I picked up the Korean 2-Disc. Is it definate that its going to be the full color version on this disc rather thatn the fading one?
Vengeance is Mine? Like the Imamura film? Bizarre considering I just saw the notices that he died.
I hate how the cover art emphasizes a lame quote from bloodydisgusting.com. Just leave the cover blank. Cripes.

I think Tartan shortened it, UK release has this title also.

Can't wait for this release! I'll for sure be picking this up as I was a huge fan of Oldboy and Mr. Vengeance. Havn't seen this one yet, but I heard it's better than the other two in some ways. Too bad they don't include the gradually fade to black and white version maybe on a 2nd disc like the Korean SE.
