I am so glad I waited.
It looks sooo good!
The five-disk package looks kind of nice but i would'ny pay more than $25 for this set...When it goes on sale for that price I might pick it up but neither film really did it for me...
While technically well made these films feel too familiar to films I have seen in the past and overall lack a freshness or originality i was hoping for...

I like the artwork from the 2 disc better than the 5 disc.
no double feature for HD-DVD? I don't want to buy them single because it's probably on the cards.
Looks great.
Well color me s**tless...
With these two movies having different home video distributors, I'm surprised to see them packaged together like this.

What are you talking about? They're the same.

awesome!
Not a fan of the gold frame, but I will be definitely getting the Blu-ray of both films on the 22nd.
5 disk looks good.
I am SO there with the five disc set! Glad I waited. Hell yes!

I find it interesting that Blu-Ray is going to be cheaper. Should help Blu-Ray maintain and increase their lead in sales over HD-DVD. I can see myself jumping on the HD bandwagon before the end of the year, and if they keep up the pace, it'll be with Blu-Ray.

Thank god I didn't buy the barebones FOUF. I will definitely buy the box set.
I found Iwo Jima to be incredibly dull. never want to endure it ever again. still want to see flags, hoping it will be better.
Looking good! glad I waited as well. Will be getting the box set when it gets cheaper :D
Glad i waited, will be picking up the box set. Wonder what the price will be on release week? $35-40 maybe.

It's because the HD DVD is a Combo release I think

I thought "Flags" was a great movie. "Letter Never played around here so I am looking forward to seeing "Letters"
Haven't seen either film, but they both looked fantastic. I'll definitely consider picking up the five disc set.
I thought Flags was decent, but Letters was definitely the better of the two (to me, at least). I look forward to watching both of them back to back on Blu-Ray.

Well, if Amazon's typical 30% discount holds true, the price could be as cheap as $35, but somehow I doubt that. I'm guessing more in the lines of $40 or more. Although it could be $35 as recent movies like Blood Diamond, are showing a 37% discount, so who knows.

The artwork for LfIJ is great. Too bad they had to botch the FoOF art.
I'll be getting the box set.
I'll be getting the box set.
Awesome, I haven't seen either film.
I want the 5 disc on HD DVD. BBBBBBBBBOOOOOOOOOOO
The 5 disc boxset is a must buy, these movies are amazing on both human level and movie level...the sound effects are a WAW
I loved both movies but preferred Letters. I think I'll get the 5 disc set, since it has both movies and the doc, which I've never seen.
I'll get the 5-disc. Haven't seen Flags but saw LfIJ and thought it was a good one, not spectacular though. It was sooo not a best picture candidate.
Well looks like I have to eat my words. I really did not expect a 5 disc set...but it looks like it has the goods. That is a must buy for me.
The 5-Disc probably won't be on any high-def format because the A&E documentary was only released on DVD. I mean, it's not like its special casing or anything, just the two movies bundled with the A&E doc which is already availabale. If high-def owners want the A&E documentary then just buy it seperately. Myself, I really don't care for it. Blu-rays of both wil do it for me.

Quote: Sixty-one years ago, US and Japanese armies met on Iwo Jima. Decades later, several hundred letters are unearthed from that stark island's soil. The letters give faces and voices to the men who fought there, as well as the extraordinary general who led them. The Japanese soldiers are sent to Iwo Jima knowing that in all probability they will not come back. Among them are Saigo, a baker who wants only to live to see the face of his newborn daughter; Baron Nishi, an Olympic equestrian champion known around the world for his skill and his honor; Shimizu, a young former military policeman whose idealism has not yet been tested by war; and Lieutenant Ito, a strict military man who would rather accept suicide than surrender. Leading the defense is Lt. General Tadamichi Kuribayashi, whose travels in America have revealed to him the hopeless nature of the war but also given him strategic insight into how to take on the vast American armada streaming in from across the Pacific. With little defense other than sheer will and the volcanic rock of the island itself, Gen. Kuribayashi's unprecedented tactics transform what was predicted to be a quick and bloody defeat into nearly 40 days of heroic and resourceful combat. Almost 7,000 American soldiers were killed on Iwo Jima; more than 20,000 Japanese troops perished. The black sands of Iwo Jima are stained with their blood, but their sacrifices, their struggles, their courage and their compassion live on in the letters they sent home. From Academy Award winner Clint Eastwood comes the untold story of the Japanese soldiers and their General who defended against the invading American forces on the island of Iwo Jima.
