I should receive the 5-disc set next week, can't wait!
ugly head shot menus.
Must Own!
That 5 disk looks great.Really wanted to see Letters from Iwo Jima.
How come the Letters trailer is listed on the HD/BD discs, but not the standards?
I found Flags very boring. I was so disapointed. I hoped Letters was going to be better.
I already got the HD DVD on preorder. Looks to be a great release.
This is beautiful package. The HD-DVD and Blu-Ray is awesome packaging. Can wait!
HD DVD for me
Artwork added for the HD DVD and Blu-ray releases...
Soooo glad I waited! This box looks amazing. The artwork isn't all that spectacular, I much prefer the Asian art, but this is nice. :: counts my pennies::
Amazon listed the 5-Discer at $34.99. Considering it's about $24 for each seperate 2-Disc, I'll get the 5-Disc set then, only hope that the package is still the same inside, digipak for flag? '
Didn't see Flags, since it didn't look too interesting, but I'll definitely be getting the Letters Blu-Ray.
Inevitable that this would come BUT it is a must buy. Can't wait. Letters was the real best picture of 2006 no offense to Marty; I think he'd agree as well.
Amazon now has the 5-disc set up for pre-order for just $34.99! Not bad for two 2-disc movies and a bonus disc. I guess that 30% discount I mentioned on Page 1 held true.
I just realized that Warner is releasing Iwo Jima while Flags is being released by Paramount. What gives? I know both studios were involved with the films but that means I have to pay more for Flags on Blu-ray than I will have to for Iwo Jima. Bummer.

In theory I'd agree but it's not happened yet and BD has been out a year. I suspect the relevant companies are unsure whether it's in their interest until one format wins, if at all.

Still have yet to see this one, but the fact that Flags and an extra disc are included, I'll definitely buy the set.

Didn't see that box set coming *NOT*
The 5 disc set for me!

Is it confirmed they're region A? Not all BD discs are region coded. I don't believe Casino Royale (UK anyway) is.

I find it interesting that Blu-Ray is going to be cheaper. Should help Blu-Ray maintain and increase their lead in sales over HD-DVD. I can see myself jumping on the HD bandwagon before the end of the year, and if they keep up the pace, it'll be with Blu-Ray.
Well, you better invest in a US Blu Ray player then mate. The discs are region coded. Unlike HD DVDs. I've got both players. Blu Ray is THE way to go at the moment... no question...

The 5-Disc probably won't be on any high-def format because the A&E documentary was only released on DVD. I mean, it's not like its special casing or anything, just the two movies bundled with the A&E doc which is already availabale. If high-def owners want the A&E documentary then just buy it seperately. Myself, I really don't care for it. Blu-rays of both wil do it for me.
Well looks like I have to eat my words. I really did not expect a 5 disc set...but it looks like it has the goods. That is a must buy for me.
I'll get the 5-disc. Haven't seen Flags but saw LfIJ and thought it was a good one, not spectacular though. It was sooo not a best picture candidate.
I loved both movies but preferred Letters. I think I'll get the 5 disc set, since it has both movies and the doc, which I've never seen.
The 5 disc boxset is a must buy, these movies are amazing on both human level and movie level...the sound effects are a WAW
I want the 5 disc on HD DVD. BBBBBBBBBOOOOOOOOOOO
Awesome, I haven't seen either film.
The artwork for LfIJ is great. Too bad they had to botch the FoOF art.
I'll be getting the box set.
I'll be getting the box set.

Well, if Amazon's typical 30% discount holds true, the price could be as cheap as $35, but somehow I doubt that. I'm guessing more in the lines of $40 or more. Although it could be $35 as recent movies like Blood Diamond, are showing a 37% discount, so who knows.

I thought Flags was decent, but Letters was definitely the better of the two (to me, at least). I look forward to watching both of them back to back on Blu-Ray.
Haven't seen either film, but they both looked fantastic. I'll definitely consider picking up the five disc set.
I thought "Flags" was a great movie. "Letter Never played around here so I am looking forward to seeing "Letters"

It's because the HD DVD is a Combo release I think

Looking good! glad I waited as well. Will be getting the box set when it gets cheaper :D
I found Iwo Jima to be incredibly dull. never want to endure it ever again. still want to see flags, hoping it will be better.
Thank god I didn't buy the barebones FOUF. I will definitely buy the box set.

I am SO there with the five disc set! Glad I waited. Hell yes!
5 disk looks good.
Not a fan of the gold frame, but I will be definitely getting the Blu-ray of both films on the 22nd.
awesome!
Well color me s**tless...
With these two movies having different home video distributors, I'm surprised to see them packaged together like this.

What are you talking about? They're the same.

Looks great.
no double feature for HD-DVD? I don't want to buy them single because it's probably on the cards.
I like the artwork from the 2 disc better than the 5 disc.
The five-disk package looks kind of nice but i would'ny pay more than $25 for this set...When it goes on sale for that price I might pick it up but neither film really did it for me...
While technically well made these films feel too familiar to films I have seen in the past and overall lack a freshness or originality i was hoping for...

Synopsis:
Quote: Sixty-one years ago, US and Japanese armies met on Iwo Jima. Decades later, several hundred letters are unearthed from that stark island's soil. The letters give faces and voices to the men who fought there, as well as the extraordinary general who led them. The Japanese soldiers are sent to Iwo Jima knowing that in all probability they will not come back. Among them are Saigo, a baker who wants only to live to see the face of his newborn daughter; Baron Nishi, an Olympic equestrian champion known around the world for his skill and his honor; Shimizu, a young former military policeman whose idealism has not yet been tested by war; and Lieutenant Ito, a strict military man who would rather accept suicide than surrender. Leading the defense is Lt. General Tadamichi Kuribayashi, whose travels in America have revealed to him the hopeless nature of the war but also given him strategic insight into how to take on the vast American armada streaming in from across the Pacific. With little defense other than sheer will and the volcanic rock of the island itself, Gen. Kuribayashi's unprecedented tactics transform what was predicted to be a quick and bloody defeat into nearly 40 days of heroic and resourceful combat. Almost 7,000 American soldiers were killed on Iwo Jima; more than 20,000 Japanese troops perished. The black sands of Iwo Jima are stained with their blood, but their sacrifices, their struggles, their courage and their compassion live on in the letters they sent home. From Academy Award winner Clint Eastwood comes the untold story of the Japanese soldiers and their General who defended against the invading American forces on the island of Iwo Jima.
