i'll stick with my criterion copy (though i do like this packaging).
Milking it much?
I own this already. Damn it's brilliant, the last release was pretty bare: it just had this old BBC documentary with the cast on-set.
I just bought this at Wal-Mart not to long ago. I only paid $5 for it though so I might pick this one up.
Monty Python RULES!
The basic version I own will be updated nicely by this pickup. Truly one of the funniest movies ever made. Python can do no wrong in my book.

Yet more evidence that DVDs heyday is over. Let's just keep recycling the same old releases! It annoys the c**p out of me that some films get multiple editions while we're still waiting for decent versions of others. There's my Special Edition of WarGames dammit!?!? Maybe when the ill-advised sequel arrives, eh?
Excellent! I've cast longing looks at the Criterion, but I refuse to pay $35 for a single DVD.
How many different Life Of Brian DVDs are there now?!
I have two different editions, and have avoided buying at least 2 other "special editions" of the movies.... it has got so ridiculous now that it is no longer funny (the dvd situation that is... the movie is still hilarious no matter what)

I enjoy my Criterion edition.

Sticking a single documentary on this will not make me replace or double dip to accompany my Criterion DVD. And you're right - where in the hell is a decent anamorphic transfer of "The Abyss"? Where's "Bugsy Malone"?!

There were only two releases for this, and one was in Canada. The Criterion is the only one currently available and it's $25. I never got around to buying it so I'll defiantly be picking this up.
that artwork is c**ppy.
I'll be sticking with my Criterion copy too.

There is a world outside of America.

i believe Holy Grail is the one you're all thinking about. that's got 4 different dvds to date.

Same here...for Criterion in general. I just can't justify the price of Criterions when more or less these days, regular 2-disc DVDs are just as good in the extras department. And that's why in the nearly 6 years of DVD collecting, I don't own a single Criterion.

Why is everyone complaining? The Criterion doesn't have much on it and is way too little for the price. The artwork is more or less what the theatrical poster was.

a bit OT but :
disagree. many CC dvds have exclusive extras, some have whole novels attached, books of essays, illustrations, posters etc.
I just bought Mike Leigh's Naked - other option was R4 with no subs (essential as Im not fluent in english) and non-anamorpich picture. so CC was absolutely best choise, as I love the film.
of course this is not the case everytime, but when title has CC version out, I tend to buy it ..

I own the Criterion DVD myself, but I am very excited about this release! Hopefully it will possess a newly remastered transfer, better audio, and much more substantial extras. I consider "Life of Brian" the greatest comedy of all time, and will gladly wait for this two-disc release to put right alongside my two-disc "Holy Grail" and "Meaning of Life" DVDs. HURRAY!!!

I totally agree with nefilim. I will get the Criterion edition everytime. They never skimp on extras or a booklet to accompany the release. Most times they are within $10 of the bare bones release, so they are well worth it. The Life of Brian CC also has deleted scenes, which I'm sure they will finally make available for this new double dipper. You are doing your collection a disservice to exclude Criterion releases. Just my opinion, but it sounds like I'm not alone.

I already have the Criterion but I do want to pick up the Blu-Ray version
What about us folks that have never bought ANY version of this title?
Is it OK if we get this one?

No. Of course not, what kind of question is that?
I love Monty Python, but the only film I like is The Holy Grail. And Now For Something Completely Different... was just recycled stuff for the US and didn't have the same feel or energy that was present in the Flying Circus. And neither The Life of Brian or The Meaning of Life were that funny to me (except for The Crimson Permanent Assurance). That being said, this one does have it's moments, and it's been awhile since I've seen this, so I may just be forgetting a lot. My dad has all of them on DVD, so if I ever want to, I can just borrow it from him.

Sorry, its hard to type sarcasm.
I completely understand and agree about the complaints regarding unneccesary double- triple- quadruple- dips.
It just makes me laugh how some people will defend the release that they had purchased as the ONLY version that should exist, and any others are blasphemous.
