and i have seen the unrated cut...
lemme find that part, and ill give you the exact quote...
the part when John rolls out the police car he utters "this is a bad F---ing idea"
lol, i loved that...
oh and about the line you were wondering about, he doesnt say F--- line was still the same...

Surprised that there is no boxset containing all four films.
Hey George,
As lame as you think the film to be there is no way Fox would position the Die Hard franchise against Al Qaeda while US troops are still serving in Afghanistan. What's McClaine gonna do bring down the Taliban single handedly on American soil? Lets face it terrorism is a pretty hard sell to people as an action 'Cinema' experience thesedays, unlike TV shows like 'Sleeper Cell', 'The Unit' or even features such as 'The Kingdom' and 'Syrianna', that position themselves as 'realistic', stylistically or emotionally. This is not the preserve of the Die Hard films. I'm sure you'll agree that elements of 'with a Vengeance' have lost their boys own thrill due to serious real life events. Even Han Gruber shrugged off air at 'Asian Dawn' in the first film, proof of how distant mid-east terrorism was regarded in the 80's action film. I think the new film went the only way it could within the format, crazed loon money grab under the flag of terrorism whilst also showcasing what is seen by many as the real 21st Century terrors of Paranoia, economic instability and fear of government practices. As Long's character Matthew puts it when McClaine flails to understand this new threat, 'It took FEMA five days to get water to the Superdome...'

This was such a sh*t movie.
The original "Die Hard" is a classic & I can't believe this fourth film got the green light.
The people that made this film should have grown a set of balls & dealt with a real life issue - terrorism.
Not the disgruntled "I'm gonna get back at the employer & world that screwed me over" employee. I'm talking about Al Quaida & people who want to get ahead & take this world by striking fear & terror into innocent people.
Their was a real great opportunity to make a strong installment in the "Die Hard" series.
Instead the audience got to watch a land version of "Speed 2". What the f**k!?

Estonian R2 cover. Goes well with the new 1-disc versions that were released before LFoDH. Too bad they didn't re-release the 2 discs.
Also, Amazon.com has cover art for the 1-disc full screen PG-13 edition& a different cover art for the 1-disc widescreen unrated edition

Less about the cover art, (which I really like for the 2-discer) is there any new news on how much longer the 'Unrated' version will be. Here in the UK the 2 disc version is billed as the 'Ultimate Action Edition' which, according to press releases is an extended cut differing to that of the theatrical PG-13 cut(Inexpliciably a 15 Cert in the UK...man Superbad was a Cert 15, and how many F**k's in that?.) But is this going to be FOX emptying the avid trim bin and adding seconds to bullet hits or will it be fuller, more brutal...and yes bloodier and sweary...er action movie? Anybody got a notion?
What a terrible film.
Hoped they went back in added some color to the film and fixed all of the adr problems.
I wanted to leave the theater during this one.

I actually like the 2-disc art. I am not sure why, but fits somehow. I am very much looking forward to this, but will be pissed off if another version is released with more features down the line. Gimme, gimme, gimme.
one more vote for the great 2 disc art.
definitely looking forward to the unrated version. It was a little weird seeing a "Die Hard" movie without the over-the-top violence. "Die Harder" is the best, in that respect.
Are they kidding with that 2-disc artwork? I don't want to know how Bruce Willis looks like when he wakes up in the morning. lol.

I dig the 1-disc artwork. I totally dislike the 2-disc artwork and I am not at all that picky. I may just buy the 1-disc instead, but I think that would be silly. So lame cover and all, will buy the 2-disc.

We're not going to get a REAL R-rated version anyway. They have probably added some CGI blood and the motherf***er won't be cut off. Not much else I guess. Still, if they really did shoot more swearing then maybe we'll get more of that aswell.
well after the building blows up, you could tell that the kid was swearing up a storm, it was edited and dubbed so badly...so at the very least that should be intact now..lol

People still went to see DH4 regardless of the PG-13 rating and liked it. The unrated edition is just something extra.
I just don't see what you have to complain about. Are your virgin eyes and ears gonna explode or something? Like complaining when a hot woman naked decides to sit on your lap. Would you kick her off or run with it? Judging by your response, you'd kick her off. * rolls eyes *
*Rolls eyes back* - So because they excerpt a few certain obscenities (or a specific ONE which adds NOTHING to the movie anyway), it takes away the "flavor" of a DIE HARD movie? What kind of crack are you smoking, because you got the bad stuff. It has nothing to do with "virgin eyes and ears", it's more about what stuff is needed in the film. C**p like that, which was excised to make it a PG-13 should have been cut from the previous ones as well.

does anyone know how much longer is the unrated cut of the film?? when the movie came out i was upset that it was pg 13 and not r rated. very good film not the best of the series but better than the second and last film. i was hoping it would come unrated, i hope they add a tad more blood in it.
That's cool that the art for the 2 disc edition is different than the single disc version. Usually it's not like Spiderman 3.
Will studios learn someday that there's more to a movie than its leading star?
I understand the marketing department being conservative about it, but there's being TOO conservative, even for them, and they went beyond that point a loooong time ago.
Please, studios, give the covers design back to art and graphics department, so we can get nice looking covers that REALLY tell us something about the movie and are not an insult to aesthetics.

I'll rent it. The only one I've bought is the first, and I doubt that'll change.
"Beyond High Definition" !? LOL! They really need to stop with these ridiculous tag lines.

Artwork added for the two-disc collector's edition...
There's a difference between R1 and R2 release of this movie. R2 will have a little more features for the 2 disc edition.
R1:
* English DD5.1 Surround
* French and Spanish Dolby Surround
* English, French and Spanish subtitles
* Commentary by Bruce Willis, Director Len Wiseman and Editor Nicolas De Toth
* Music Video - “Die Hard” by Guyz Nite (4:30 mins)
* Behind-the-Scenes with Guyz Nite (5:47 mins)
* Analog Hero in a Digital World: Making of Live Free or Die Hard documentary (96 mins)
* Yippee-Ki-Yay Mother F*****! - One-on-One Conversation with Bruce Willis & Kevin Smith (21:44 mins)
* Fox Movie Channel Presents Fox Legacy (6:19 mins)
* Theatrical trailer
R2:
all the same features as R1 plus
* 4 Deleted and Extended Scenes (3:38 mins)
* Gag Reel (7:48 mins)
* Hacker Underworld Featurette (8:51 mins)
* Homeland Security in a Cyber Age Featurette (10 mins)
* Matt’s Pad with Justin Long Featurette (6:43 mins)
SOURCE: DVDTimes
- R2 gets about 40 more minutes of various features that R1 doesn't get plus they get it almost 1 month before we do. Which sucks big time. Also, I wouldn't be really surprise if Fox releases this movie in an extended cut by adding the deleted scenes from R2 in 2008.

Definitely getting the Unrated cut...
unrated...
does this mean that we will actually hear bruce willis say "yippee kiyay motherfu**er" in a full sentence, and not blocked out with a gun shot?
I wonder if this'll have the gag reel that the UK edition's going to have...
Thanks Tom. Just wanted to make sure, because that DTS will blow my Home Theatre away!!

This was the first die hard movie that was PG-13, and i like Bruce Willis a lot better in the first three die hards, becase he used language in a funny way,and the movie was rated R, but in this one he didnt do funnt bad things
I liked this movie wayyy better than Transformers. I hope the unrated edition has more violence like the past DH movies did.
Can't wait. It was the best since the first. I wish they would've stuck witht the similar artwork to the other movies however.
What a bunch of idiots (and teasers). The pic shows an unrated blu-ray release - but they then announce pg13 only? Stupid stupid fools.
A major dissapointment. The worst out of all four films. I'll get this when its in the Wal*Mart 5.50 bin.

That's probably a Blu Ray exclusive. I'll just get the standard 2-disc for now.

Thank Fox for the unrated version and a two disc version. Yippee-kie-yaa...
Sweeeeet, sucks that the blu-ray version is going to be the theatrical version but at least there's going to be a 2-disc unrated edition.
2 Disc Unrated for me.
WOOOOO!
DIE HARD, BAYBEH!
is it pointless to hope for a Criterion release with commentary by Kevin Smith and Joey Lauren Adams?

I guess I will get the 2-disc Unrated edition. I don't see this as part of the franchise, it's like Alien: Resurrection to me. A good movie, but not part of the series. Kind of sucks how much I will have to pay for the 2-disc (probably 25 bucks), but I hate settling for less.

Blu-ray = PG13 = no go for me.
This was entertaining, but, it was also a bit disappointing. Didn't really buy into some of the CGed parts of the movie. I remember Die Hard just being a hardcore guy's action movie with practical stunts. This one just went way over the top in terms of believability for me. Still, curiousity has convinced me that the Unrated Version is worth picking up.
Hell yes for Fox releasing the 2 disc right off the bat. I am so in with that, and it is unrated too. I do have to say it was noticable the lack of swearing compared to the first 3. It will be interesting to see if they add it in, or just blood. And I do find it odd that Blu-Ray isn't getting the unrated since the HD formats should be what the film companies are promoting. Doesn't matter to me since I still love DVD!!!
Boo on the PG-13 only Blu Ray release. Boo I say!
Though there were edits in post production to get the film a PG-13 rating it was still shot to be PG-13 and after the films bad reception once the film was known to be PG-13 Fox promised an Unrated cut on DVD...however they said they were to digitally add in blood. I don't know about you guys but that sounds like an absolutely horrible idea. First of all you can't fix a film thats broke. (Not just due to the violence it was all around awful) And second of all it's going to be awkward and look like c**p...eh...I'm very much done with this movie Unrated or Theatrical cut...Fox screwed up.
Definately getting the Unrated Two- Disc. Can't Wait...
i just noticed a "cutting room" segment for that 10 part making of.....i wonder if this will be bout the edits made to make this PG or/and the "hoopla" doing that caused...or just simply about editing the movie....its probably the latter but yeah..lol

YES! UNRATED! YES! 2-DISCS!!!!!! YES! DIE HARD!!!!!!!!
Willis face reaction on the cover is weird. So not Willis.
I liked the cover...waiting for the 8 disc set of the whole series
thats cool..2 discs and unrated....nice
now lets hope that 10 part making of isnt one of those "cheats" where its like 23mins long when played in one shot...i hope this totals to at least an hour or if not longer.
now its probably safe to assume the unrated means the language will be intact but what else? i remember reading rumors of them adding digital blood to some of the gunshots. if this is true i gotta wonder if it wouldnt have been easier to film it as violent as wanted and just digital erase the blood for theaters instead of adding some now. lol
either way its a cool movie i'll definately get for sure and at least fox isnt ripping R1 off since they're releasing all versions at the same time....bout time.

No rated widescreen? Hmmm... That's annoying.
no word on what the unrated will contain.
this movie is a waste of life.
this movie is a waste of life.
They killed this when it was released with a PG-13, and I wouldn't buy the PG-13 Blu-ray version if it was $5 and signed by Bruce Willis.
The press release definately suggests that its only the theatrical cut on the Blu-ray release. I'll try and get hold of Fox and see if I can get a definitive answer though

Big props to Fox for going day and date with the meaty 2-disc edition (as they are also doing with Fan4) rather than make us wait a year. However, I'm still waiting for the X-Men 3 and Borat double dips.
2-disc unrated?! Sign me up.
The boxart for the Blu-ray version says unrated, though.
I don't freakin believe this!
Why would they short the Blu-Ray edition?
It's supposed to be the ultimate format and it gets the PG-13 cut?

I'd be proud to put this next to my original 6 disc trilogy set.
Just hoping for a 2 disc right out of the gate. Cause I won't double movies anymore.

I have both players Blu Ray & HD DVD HOT Items!
Would buy this if no.4 would have a director's cut.
So both R2 (amazon.co.uk) & R1 (info from DVDEmpire) are going to get a 2-disc version also? Nice.
Wish I hadn't missed so many movies this year...but not next, with Wall-e, Indiana & Dark Knight....
This title should have been released in August. It was lost in the shuffle amongst the other heavy hitters. Must buy for me
I liked this one better than "Die Harder". I basically went to see this in the theater mainly for Maggie Q. She is one, fine-ass Eurasian chick. Maybe I'll pick it up, later on down the line.....
I was let down by this, firstly because of the whole 'daddy-daughter' thing going on, fair doos it's his motivation for giving a toss, but for a film where the action is beyond ridiculous (in a good way), who cares about the weak plot. Secondly, I wasn't convinced with the baddie, he had no charisma, just a burning ambition to get revenge (yawn).
I went into this theater expecting the worst, due to choice in directors and the fact that it was rated PG-13. Len Wiseman's "Underworld" films were decent escapist entertainment, but the action style he exhibited during those films didn't really fit my idea of what a "Die Hard" movie should be, you know? Also, with the PG-13 rating, I was like, "Goddamn. Fox really sold out and dumbed down this movie franchise so that kids wouldn't buy tickets to a lesser-rated movie to jump the ropes to get into an R-rated movie. Sh*t."
Imagine my surprise when I walked out of the movie after the last credit rolled. For weeks, I couldn't stop raving about how actually GOOD this movie was. It was entertaining, it was action-fueled, it was everything you could want in a summer action movie... plus, I disagree with the comment about how this movie "emasculated" the John McClane character. Personally, I thought he had the sack of a lion. The only thing that was different was the amount of gunfire and the lack of R-rated language. There was still the one-man-against-the-bad-guys angle that makes these flicks so enjoyable. He still had the humor, he was still macho, and he had the cojones to do what couldn't be done. As implausible as some of the action sequences may have been, they were still pretty bad@ss. I couldn't have asked for a better time in the theaters this summer, with perhaps the exception of "Transformers" and "Superbad".
And imagine how I celebrated by running around my office floor when I saw that graphic of the Blu-Ray cover that has a big, red "UNRATED" on it! Immediately, I went to my co-workers and told them the news, and yes, they all laughed at me, but they KNEW I was looking forward to a possible unrated cut. What a great way to end a week!
Now, if I can only get Rob Zombie's abortion of a "Halloween" re-imagining out of my head...

Yeah, there's definately gonna be a two-disc special edition that includes an unrated cut of the film. It'll also include a feature length documentary.
If I can find it used and cheap I'll buy it. Otherwise I'll hold off for a 2 disc.

I guess many consider it a trilogy. Part 4 (while I liked it) is really nothing at all like the previous 3, the action is different and so is the style. All the grit has gone for gloss and OTT action.
They could've just as easily changed the title to a generic action film.

Well, seems they like to do double-dips in the states more than elsewhere. There's an 8-disc boxset planned for release here in Australia:

ive seen it 3 times in the theaters, and i honestly have to say this was my fav of the 4. i loveeeee die hard. i cant wait to pick this up. i really hope its an unrated cut.
Yet again another example not to dip twice in the world of DVDs. It is clear 20th Century Fox is interested in milking the cow and when all the juice's spent, they'll release a 2-disc for half the price of the single one.
I won't put my money anywhere near that movie since it killed any hope I had: Just about no blood ever comes out of anyone, the villains look like they ate steroids all week, McClane is but the shadow of his past and the plot isn't as twisted as the first and third one. Spoiler And just so I know the franchise is dead: the goddamn kid kills the bad guy, right? Thought so. What's that supposed to mean if not that McClane can't handle this franchise anymore? It was said many times before and now is the time to say it again: PG-13 action movies are NOT for the Die Hard series, which ended with a vengeance.
Please think about using spoiler tags the next time you decide to ruin the ending of a movie for those that have yet to see it.

Possibly the tamest Die Hard ever.McClane must have gone to anger management because instead of using the F word every 5 seconds like he did in the previous the most he says is "b***h",not to mention he doesn't"sweat" blood like he used to.
Honestly, when you have a film called Die Hard rated PG-13(or an Alien or a Predator movie)there is something wrong with that studio. One of the reasons I don't go to cinemas anymore is that you know the true version only comes to DVD,not the theaters.Fox,you suck!
The film is entertaining though, specially if you're 13 down.

I totally loved this film, but will wait for a two-discer. I want my features dammit. And Bruce Willis can still kick some serious ass. Non stop action, a must own.
I enjoyed this a lot more than expected but some of the stunts were a little hard to believe. It was really exciting, though they could have cut the Kevin Smith scenes and the villains were fairly bland. Still, it was slightly better than the second movie. I'm going to hold out for a 2 disc SE
I'm sure it's good, but really: FOUR Die Hards?

You know, its funny. A lot of people have a huge problem with the fuc*er in motherfuc*er being covered with the sound of a gunshot. But if you really think about it, that's probably how we'd all do it if we were in that situation. SPOILERS BELOW...

To me, him shooting through his own body to hit that bad guy RIGHT on the word "fuc*er" only accentuates his anger even more. I loved it. I'm completely fine with them putting all the other cursing back into the movie. But honestly, if he finishes the whole phrase, and then fires, I think it takes away from some of the badassness. And by the way people, there may have been a gunshot noise over it, but I still heard the word.

One of the best of the summer. I will be picking up the unrated version.

Question...on the recent re-release of the Trilogy, are they new transfers, or just re-issues of the Ultimate Collection transfers?

I think the original DVD artwork for Die Hard 1,2,3 on the original DVD's would blend in better with the Blu-Ray Disc artwork for Live Free Or Die Hard. I believe this means new video transfers are on the way for Standard Defintion of the first 3 films.

for those of us who bought the trilogy box from a few years ago, i cant see any future collection giving more to the first three movies as far as extras go.....that "five star" collection was pretty damn packed. let's hope when the inevitable 4 movie super duper collection comes, they'll port over all those extras for those who never bought it originally.

Anybody notice the UNRATED banner on the cover art above for DIE HARD 4?
Outside of the Bourne Ultimatum, this was easily the best sequel of the summer. Everything in the film worked. From the action to the humor. My only real complaint, was that Cyril Raffaelli should've had more screen time.
I enjoyed it more than the other sequels.Yippee Yay Ki Yay Mothertrucker
I liked this movie but I won't buy the dvd. Because I'm 100 % sure that in 2008, Fox will release all the four Die Hard movie with a bonus disc each. An huge tetralogy containing 8 discs. So people, don't buy this on November 20. Just be a little patient and buy the 8 disc boxset. Knowing Fox's strategy, you know that it is coming in 2008.
Cool stuff. The whole DH series on blu-ray will set a very high standard on Fox.
I'm gonna wait it out for the unrated version.

Its not Die Hard without some gun fights, it was a computer hacker movie, and the bad guy was the worst of the series. But, the plane versus the semi-truck scene was AWESOME!

Terrible film...neutered the character of McClane and had some of the most ridiculous and absurd action scenes I have ever seen.
That DVD stinks of a non-American 2 disc release, commentaries and a bit more please. This is Fox too who like to pull that one.
Europe will get a 2 Disc SE for sure.
As for the film it was good but the first film is the only great one, part 2 is decent too. Part 3 was pretty boring and Part 4 enjoyable but really stupid.
p.s - The American title for DH4 is so stupid. Thankfully it wasn't used elsewhere.

I liked this as much as the first one; it was awesome. Hopefully the Unrated cut adds some of the swearing back in, and doesn't cut the "Yippee ki-yay" line with a gunshot like in the theatrical release. Even if not, I'm still picking this up.

I was so skeptical when I first heard they were making a Die Hard 4. The first is supreme, and this one comes damn close.
I never had a more exciting time at the theater. Way better than the second, slightly better than the third, and almost as good, if not on par with the first.
Definitely sold here. And after seeing Timothy Olyphant in this, I really can't wait for Hitman.

You owe it to yourself to at least check out the first. The second is almost a re-hash of that one with a different setting. If you like them both, check out the third, and then see this. It's a great series.

You owe it to yourself to at least check out the first. The second is almost a re-hash of that one with a different setting. If you like them both, check out the third, and then see this. It's a great series.
Somehow this movie was incredibly entertaining. It's possibly the zany duel between a semi and a jet that gets me going, or perhaps the car versus helicopter showdown. Over the top and loving it!
I've actually just amended that because of a graphic on the Fox Home website!

As the press release states, there is no unrated version available... yet.
