Warner Home Video has revealed details on DVD ($19.98) and Blu-ray ($29.99) releases of Lord of the Rings Animated which will arrive in stores from the 6th April. Extras will include a Forging Through The Darkness: The Ralph Bakshi Vision for The Lord of the Rings featurette, and a digital copy. We've attached the highres package artwork for each of the releases below:

I don't really care for this all that much. While it stays more faithful to the book, obviously Jackson did a far better job.

This is a hard movie sometimes to watch, but I have to admit, his rendition of Sam is hilarious.
Kind of tough to watch after Jackson's compelling telling of LOTR. At the time though, it was quite the undertaking and enjoyable to watch. I wonder if the animated Hobbit will get a redux before too long. There's also a Return of the King animated feature. This would be a decent addition to a LOTR collection.
Never actually saw this. Probably wont since Jacksons version is out now.
Ah now I know why I found this movie for so cheap a month ago! I wish I didn't come across it accidentally for $4.99 so I wouldn't be so conflicted on whether or not to get this. I've enjoyed this since I saw it for the first time around '98 but I probably won't decide on if I get it or not until I see a review and a copy at the store.
I've been wanting to see this for years. My parents have always been Lord of the Rings fans, but the hated this, so we never got to see it as kids. Then I finally saw Bakshi's Fire & Ice (and I saw Cool World as a kid) and I've been stoked to see this ever since.
This is gonna sound crazy...but they should comission to have this film finished...at least The Two Towers segment.
Sweet! I still only have the old VHS of this and always have been meaning to get it on DVD. Hopefully The Hobbit isn't far behind? Sorry, I'm in the mood, I'm watching the DVD of 'Flight of Dragons' as I am typing this 
While I did hear about this movie, and Peter Jackson's obvious fondness for it, what really compelled me to watch it was the hilarious recap of the movie at AgonyBooth. It isn't really a bad undertaking, but some of it has the whole "this is a serious epic fantasy" vibe, which takes away from it.
You can't compare it to Peter Jackson's version, but if I ever do find this in Amazon's "Blu-ray for less than $10" sales, I will pick it up.

I watched most of this at a friends house one day, not good from what I can remember. Cheap someday, I may pick it up. I can't imagine much money was spent on restoration on this. So I'm not expecting much from the transfer.

I am thirty... something. When I was a young lad, there was Rankin-Bass's "Hobbit" and "Return of the King", and this "Lord of the Rings".
Since Peter Jackson was did not show up until about 20 years later, this was part of the definitive Tolkien screen experience for most kids. Although I often wished Rankin-Bass had done the entire saga instead, this is still classic for me.
Collectively the animated works led me to reading the Hobbit as a child and later the Lord of the Rings as a teen, and truly made the eventual Jackson trilogy even more exciting as an adult.
A must-own for me!

I've always liked this. Maybe not as much as the Hobbit, but it was still good. Sure, certain effects are a bit dodgy, mainly the rotoscoping of the Orcs and Gollum.
