Hopefully they're gonna get me the 2-Disc and DVD set art soon. Or you could click on the amazon links for a low-res preview of those.

I wish they'd include a digital copy with the blu/dvd combo pack, but Disney doesn't seem to do that like most studios. They did the same thing with TRON: Legacy - you had to get the 3D blu-ray pack to get the digital copy. Bummer, I definitely want a version of this film to have on the go through iTunes and don't like ripping it off the DVD with 3rd party software.
I am definitely getting the 2-Disc Blu-ray/DVD.
It is odd that they aren't including a digital copy with the 2D Blu-ray. I re-read the release several times to make sure I hadn't misread that exact point, actually.
wow, they made a version with the soundtrack? is it selling that badly? lol
i already pre-ordered the steelbook so based on passed experience, that'll probably be the 2D+3D+DVD version.

I'd rather they have a 3D/2D Blu-ray combo without Digital Copy which is completely useless (seriously, why would anyone watch The Avengers on a phone or tablet, or who would watch the DVD copy having a Blu-ray one?).

Disney did it before with the video release of The Muppets. What I don't understand is why the movie is now called "Marvel's The Avengers Marvel".

I assumed the DVD was for people undecided on Blu-ray.

I would. If you travel or backpack, it's great to have a digital version on your laptop or iPhone. That way if you're on a train or waiting around, you can watch something and keep yourself busy. You also don't have to carry around a DVD with you and my Macbook doesn't play blu-rays.
So those are a few reasons. Obviously, my preferred choice is watching it on my HD tv and blu-ray player, but when you're out and about, it's nice to have an easily portable version.

I find it amusing Paramount's deal with Disney even extends to the DVD and Blu-ray spine art... no Disney or BVHE logo in sight.
I seriously hope that those "other unannounced extras" are substantial because if they're not then this is a pretty disappointing home video debut for one of the biggest movies in recent memory. Unless those two featurette's are lengthy, but then they wouldn't be featurette's would they?
I'm also very confounded with the title treatment. Why write out "Marvel's" and then still keep the Marvel logo on the bottom? Do they still think people will get confused? It's pretty dumb and looks even dumber IMO.

It IS a substantially disappointing release, all those extras dumped or waiting for an anniversary edition... then I'll just wait all the needed years. Seen it once, that's good for me. But until the features meet with my demands, I won't buy it at all. Hey, it DID make $1.5 billion, right? Don't over-screw our wallets as they already are.

For a recent movie, the Blu-ray edition has quite a decent selection of extras. The biggest asset is Joss Whedon's feature commentary on both DVD and Blu-ray, and he's good at them. They're usually witty, informative and very entertaining. And the gag reel and the deleted scenes (there are supposed to be 30 minutes worth) are valuable too.
I don't think Disney and Marvel are shortchanging anybody.

They seem to be using "Marvel" as a distribution label.

I do have to say I was expecting a feature-length making-of from the inception of the film, its many roads, its shooting, the "day in the life of", editing, special effects, and the release... you know, the usual 2-hour long... but as I said before, I'll gladly set aside the cash when they produce an edition worthy of my money.

there's no mention of length so a few of those. that assembling one could easily be a full on feature length making of. as for the featurette thing, i've seen a few times where it would say on the back something is a featurette only to have be a 90min or more documentary. so until the reviews are out, we can't assume anything.
and considering this is marvel, i wouldnt be surprised to see a feature length thing. they've done it for many movies in the past, including their less than popular ones like Daredevil and Elektra. granted the last few marvel movies, Thor and Cap America in particular, were a little disappointing feature wise but considering this movie's success and all, i think its safe to say it'll have something worthy. the Iron Man movies had a lot so i'm keeping my hopes up.
of course with the recent rumors about an extended cut, i could see them release that later around xmas or something with more substantive extras.

How do any of you know how long and inclusive those featurettes and second screen app are? It's entirely possible that these extras could be disappointing, but we're jumping to conclusions here. I'm most interested in the deleted scenes and Whedon's commentary anyway, myself.

That was there even when Paramount was releasing Marvel Studios' output.

I like having DVD copies so I can lend movies to my friends and family who don't have Blu-ray players.

I think they could've fit in one more "Marvel".

That's a good question with the DVD copy having a Blu-ray one. I actually bought the DVD Combo having both the Blu-ray disc and DVD for "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" only because I have the first three on DVD.

Yeah, DVD and Blu-ray combo packs are about future-proofing your collection. That way when you get a Blu-ray player, you won't have to chuck out your DVD and buy the Blu-ray -- it's already in the package.

Beyond the fact that many people would like to watch a movie on their phone/tablet/computer while traveling, you're forgetting that many digital copies can now be streamed, many in HD, from iCloud or UltraViolet. This allows you to watch your purchased movies in several rooms at home, at a relative's home, a friend's house, a hotel room, or pretty much anywhere else you have an internet connection, without having to actually carry them around. I find the streaming digital copies to be very useful.

'Bout time, dammit. Hopefully, I'll have my Blu-ray laptop by the time this comes out, so I can watch it at work...Can we get an official release date?

i can't speak for the ultraviolet stuff but dont the physical digital copies have expiration dates? because whatever one's opinion of digital copies is...that seems pretty stupid and pointless.

Will either get that big fancy blu ray box set or just the plain blu/dvd combo. Depends if there's a good first week deal on the big fancy one.

I have wanted a computer with a bluray player for a while. The screen on my nearly 5 year old HP is dead so i use and external monitor for the time being. I am seriously considering a laptop with a blu player when i get my next one. Also bluray.com lists september 25th as the release date and i heard that too

The standard DVD always comes in handy if you want to watch the movie on a TV yet aren't in a position to utilize a Blu-ray player. Like, say, if you go over to a friend's house and you bring along your copy of the movie, but your friend hasn't upgraded to Blu-ray yet.
