Matrix Collection (US - DVD R1)
We now have even more details along with some early artwork
Title: Matrix Collection
Starring: Keanu Reaves
Released: 7th December 2004
SRP: $79.92
Further details have begun to emerge on the new Matrix Collection which will be arriving in shops from the 7th December. It will be available in two editions. The first of these will be a standard (if you can call ten discs standard!) edition including the three films along with The Animatrix and six-discs of bonus material. This will retail at around $79.92. The second will be a collector's giftset containing the ten-disc edition along with a Neo minibust and an 80-page book with never-before-seen artwork and storyboards. The retail price for this one will be around $129.92. Now onto the discs themselves. Firstly, contrary to earlier reports, no extended cuts will be included. The Wachowski brothers are perfectly happy with the films as they are. There will be two new audio commentaries for each film - one from philosophers Ken Wilber and Cornel West (who analyze the meanings behind the films) and one from three professional critics who hated all three films! Also included will be all the scenes created for the Enter the Matrix video game, a new digital transfer for The Matrix and plenty more besides. Further specs can be found below:

i own 2 and 3, and not 1 due to m7y hate for snap crap, but the $59.99 is getting added to my collection!
Commentary?
I considered picking this up even though I already own the trilogy, but after seeming some of the features this now holds no interest for me.
"and one (Commentary) from three professional critics who hated all three films!"
Yey! Just what every fan of the films wants. How about the W Brothers dropping the whole mysterioso schtick and actually doing a commentary track for the films themselves.

Well sod that then. No Wachowski commentaries and only the standard theatrical cuts... Hopefully they'll release the new edition of The Matrix seperately so I can get a decent re-mastered NTSC version to go with the sequels.
I'll stick with the three I already own.
I think im the only one who hated these movies.
As much as I think that Reloaded is horrible until the Architect shows up and Revolutions is better than people get it credit for, as a fan of trilogies, I've got to get this thing.
When I heard it was coming out, I sold all three of the previous versions on DVD. I'm completely intrigued by everything this set is offereing.

I gotta own the collector's giftset
Anyone have an idea of what it would cost?

I don't know about Matrix and Revolutions, but the extended cut for Reloaded is the theatrical cut with the 23 scenes shot for the video game Enter The Matrix inserted into it. This is mentioned in the details above.
Now that I think about it I don't think there ever was an idea to include extended versions of the other films. Was there?

The clear case looks very cheap.
I'll pass. Any news if they release these individually? I might get the first one then.
Wait, so for the collector's set, the case is clear? That sucks. Does anyone think they know how much that would cost?
Don't treat the artwork as final quite yet, it could well change before the set is officially announced. Stay tuned.
I certanly won't be buying this. This is just one big marketing ploy, I'm not really interested in the endless discs of featurettes on how they made the films, as it's basically done with computers and wire-work.
I'm not interested in the philosophy of the matrix, I'm not interested in what the critics who hated the films had to say about them.
Also, it's been confirmed that all the extras that are on the discs we have now, arn't going to be in the box set.
It's all a massive con, and very presumptious of the directors to think that their trilogy deserves 10 discs!

Will they release these separately?
Com'on folks....this is such a tired old question every time a new box set comes out packaging already released movies together. How many times have they ever released new "remasters" separately. I can think of just two. The Godfather and the Aliens sets.
The purpose of this Matrix Box Set is to include every possible extra into one box. Each movie is getting its own "Revisited" disc, and then the set comes with three additional bonus discs with general information about all three. Plus it comes with the Animatrix disc. Something that I have been reluctant to buy because of its current package being a snapper.

Once again I will state my desires. Give me the best damn video and audio possible for the DVD format and house them in keepcases. That's all I want. Warner seems to be listening because their recent crop of releases have had marvelous transfers and keepcases. I will wait and buy the remastered Matrix when it sees a separate release. For now I will rent if I desire to see them.
Ill pass. If it came with the extended cut that was rumored, i would of got it. Il stick with the three i got now

A movie is one big marketting ploy.

Yeah, it's just you. And about 95% of the world's population. Still doesn't mean you're right though.

The reason the Brothers don't do a commentary is because they themselves have their own interpretation of their work, and they don't want their interpretations to become 'the law' on interpreting The Matrix because they wanted it to be open to interpretation and received differently by everyone - that's why you have a commentary track telling you one side of the story (the poeple who felt their experience with the trilogy was a worthwhile one) and another that tells you why some people (well, most people) really resented the trilogy. Everyone received it in a different way, and it's fantastic to see directors not only encouraging that (it's about as "£uck Hollywood" as you can get), but actually integrating it into a part of the whole artistic experience that is abstract expression.
Just my two cents fifty.

The details above simply state that the scenes will be included, not integrated into the film as originally suggested by Jeol Silver.

cool
everyone has already stated what i wanted tosay, and i know this is a long shot, but am I the only one crossin' my fingers for DTS here?
^_^
^_^
the video game scenes...
in the video game, one of the scenes has monica bellucci kissing jada pinkett smith. and for that alone am i selling my 3 dvds already and buying this set. plus it will look a hell of a lot better on me shelf.
Why couldn't George lucas done something like this and went for a 7-8 DVD set with both versions of each movie? Oh, well. The Matrix Trilogy box set does look cool anyway.

Well I think their trilogy deserves 10 discs.
I'm definitely picking this up even though I own the trilogy. If it's coming out in December it would make a nice birthday or xmas present.

Too bad
If 2 and 3 didn't suck so bad I'd consider buying this. It's a shame that they do.
I don't care WHAT you all say, it'll look good next to my Indy, Alien, and Jurrasic Park sets.
Besides, I may put this set's discs in my 218 disc album. Along with my Trek and B5 discs.

Did you edit your post to include the total number of DVDs you own to sound good?
