Quite a good actioner and John Moore is a really great director, this movie is visually stunning. Problems are with generic narrative and poor suppoting characters, Wahlberg is pretty great though. Pity The DVD is getting only a smattering of the Blu-Ray features. Might wait for R2 incase they don't cut the doc in two and only put the second half on HD
Ill rent it. Wasnt too excited by the trailers and I never played the game.
All 3 art works arent to shabby.
His head looks badly photoshopped...
Wow, now THERE is a bad cover for a 1-disc DVD...
even though the movie looks as bad as HITMAN... i've gotta admit that the sleeve artwork is pretty cool (the regular one is too much SIN CITY-like)
Artwork added for the 1-disc release
Does anyone know if the Blu-Ray is region encoded at all, or is it region free?
I think Mark Wahlberg owes me not only $10, but 2 hours of my life back.
This has to be one of the worst movies I've ever seen. I love me some Marky Mark, but he definitely phoned this one in. Too bad.

Sweet! Perfect BD artwork!
Yes! They stuck with it for blu release.

Weird that they said Global Box Office. It's actually the domestic figure. Worldwide, it's 80 million dollars. For a 35 million dollar production, that's not bad.

I'm finally going to get a Blu-Ray player for myself so hopefully, I'll rent this on Blu-Ray.
Blu-ray artwork added
Wait the second...DVD release has Picture Production Featurette – Part 1 and Blu Ray release has Picture Production Featurette – Part 2. ?!!! What kind of BS is that!??
finally something with good looking artwork.
go figure it's on something not so special.

Artwork would be great if the text were at the same angle as the bricks, and if it weren't that weird aqua-blue. Woudl've preferred the poster of him standing with the wings behind him (like in the press release there).
Artwork...SUCKS!!!
I might check it out.
I was planning on seeing this movie but ended up seeing Nick & Nora instead.
It the movie looks good and Mila Kunis is in it which guarantees some eye candy if the movie completely sucks.
The cover art is pretty cool but I would of gone with something that had Mila on it.
Anyway, I'll rent it most likely.

Pretty cool cover art. I hope thats what the blu version looks like.
The only thing this film has going for it are the Valkyries, seen from the designer drugs. Yet they use the worst design for the cover.
So the BD has the Picture Production Featurette – Part 2 plus part 1, but the dvd only has part 1? Maybe I read too much into that and its a slight typo. I couldn't see them ripping people off like that
$41m GLOBAL box office!?!!?!?! That's one poor figure...
Hopefully that'll be the BD artwork.
2-Disc Unrated DVD artwork:
The visuals were good but the story sucked. I might buy it when it's cheap.
Max Payne is my favorite game of all time, and though the film wasn't mind-blowing, it did the source material justice. It was a solid picture!

agree me 2 thats what im wating for

Sounds like Uwe Boll directed it....
Well it did only cost $35mil, so I guess that gross figure is something they can be pleased with. I think I'd still wait for a weekly DVD rental to check this out. As much as I like the cast, I'm a little wary of Whalberg since The Happening...
I'm a HUGE fan of both Max Payne games. They are unquestionably two of the finest video games ever made.
But the movie Sucked. How in the world someone could take a game so rich in dialogue, storyline, and content as Max Payne and screw it up is inexcusable. The only way I could write a review would be to fill it with spoilers, so I'm not going to.
Will I rent the DVD? Maybe, someday, just because I'm such a big fan of the games.

I was(am) a HUGE fan of the original games, and they could have done SO much better with this. The original game with it's storylines and graphic-novel-inspired-cutscenes gave it a Raymond Chandler/Mike Hammer kind of atmosphere, meeting with action almost rivaling "The Matrix" in "bullet-time" mode. This all could have been so VERY easily transferred to the medium of film while still holding a mainstream appeal, but they decided to go another way, sadly.
They could have just given this another title and renamed the characters and it would have been a decent enough Wahlburg action vehicle, but alas, not meant to be. Although I will say this: I would buy this first day if it included the SNL sketch "Mark Wahlburg Talks to Animals", his subsequent reactions in the media, and his follow-up "confrontation" with Andy Samburg on SNL. That debacle was more entertaining than the entirety of the "Max Payne" feature film.
On a side note, I would have cast Payne differently, had they gone with the original storyline. I think either Dean Winters could have pulled it off nicely, or, I don't know, how about JAMES MCCAFFREY!? He voiced Payne in the original game, which was important as much as it was narrative, and for anyone that's seen McCaffrey (he played Denis Leary's character's dead cousin "Jimmy" on "Rescue Me") he could even look the part. Too much disappointment here, although I'll probably end up buying it anyway.

Average movie but I'm interested in the unrated cut. The director says that supposedly, it's gonna be more atmospheric and dedicated to the gamers. Fingers crossed!
Not interested in this at all, but I found this wierd:
"an unrated extended cut with a never before seen 20 minute graphic novel"
So what, the actual movie with an animated graphic novel spliced in? lol, thats some extended cut

TERRIBLE MOVIE. I am a huge fan of the games, and this was a major letdown. Absolutley nothing like them at all. I almost fell asleep. How can a movie based on action games have no action???!!!
EXCELLENT MOVIE. As a huge fan of the max payne games, I really was suprised by the film.
It's an action movie with about 10 minutes of action. What more do you need to know? Total failure in my eyes.
Looked lame, Marky Mark what were you thinking?
Well if that action is taken to the MAX then I guess I have to see it.
Nah, I'll play the game again someday instead.

Saw in theaters. Watchable. Once. Barely. Maybe.
Remember those Wahlberg comments he would kick Batman's ass? Yeah, good one, Marky-Mark!

Why doesn't Hollywood get that making a game into a film removes the element from a game that makes it entertaining: the interactivity.
I loved the game...
missed the movie in theaters,
but i gotta see it cause i got to be on set for a few days.

I seriously thought this movie would really suck, like worse then AVPR. Though when i walked out of the theater, I felt extremely good that it was one of the better video game movies out there. I enjoyed it, it stayed close to the plot more then i thought it would. I will give this i buy since i have both the games. Bring on MAX PAYNE 3!
I actually liked this movie a lot. Not "Best of the year" quality, but it was a good time. I think the look of the film was it's best quality. I hope the unrated cut is the 125 minute version the director was talking about.
Unrated, with a PG-13 rating in the bottom left-hand corner of the poster.
I loved the games, was somewhat interested in seeing the movie, so I'll probably rent this, but I have low expectations.
rental out of curiosity. I love the games and the movie looks interesting, but I'm sure I'll hate it.
Didn't see this in the cinema yet, might check it out for Olga Kurlyenko. I thought she was fantastic in Quantum of Solace.
This movie fell short of expectations. Unrated? Don't think that'll be enough to make people who saw the movie run out and buy it. Rent before buy would be the way to go on this one.
I loved this movie. I'll definately pick up the two disc edition. Can't wait to see what they add for the unrated cut.
The creators of the game denounced this film, so that kind of says something right there.
I will rent this eventually. Never played the games, but the movie looked decent enough.

Just under mediocre. One of the better movies based off of a video game. Definitely not worth buying.
Very dull thriller based on action packed videogame. How did that happen?
I've heard this was god awful and got so much hate from the critics. Yet I'll rent it. The unrated cut seems convincing. And look I liked Alien vs. Predator: Requiem even when everyone hated it.
Max payne was a pianfully typical action movie based on a game. Totally watchable once though.
This movie sucked pass
Might check out the unrated cut.
Great games, a subpar movie. An unrated cut definitely can't hurt it. I wasn't happy with the casting at all, but it does follow the game in a somewhat decent manner.
wow...i've never seen an ad promote the fact that their movie made 40 million and seemingly being proud....they must have run out of things to list on there.
I heard that this is actually a pretty decent movie, even if you've played the video game...
I enjoyed this movie, probably more than I should have. I hope the artwork is something dark and subtle like that press release is.
Well, it DOES have Mila Kunis in it.
This looked semi-interesting but I never got a chance to see it in the theaters. I've never played the video game either... which, I'm not sure is a good thing or a bad thing. Historically speaking, film adaptations of video games are usually atrocious.
What do you say gents - is it worth a rent?
