DVD Talk gave the picture of Robocop a terrible review and hinted that the disc was withdrawn because of the appauling picture. Be wary if you want to buy this and wait for a review from a trusted source.

Why on earth are they using the yucky American cover for Ronin? The UK DVD cover art is much nicer.

They did indeed but that was based on an old Sony MGM release (that never ended up getting a release) this is a Fox MGM release. The article doesn't state these are in fact Fox releases.
While the spec. isn't much cop losing most of the extras it's likely Fox aren't using Sony's Blu-ray master. They would be fools to do so anyway.

They're out there ;-)

I'm not doing the PR company's job for them
This is the new Fox/MGM release of RoboCop, which apparently has a better image than the unreleased Sony/MGM effort if the review I read a little while ago is to be believed.
There is a review online for the Fox Blu-ray version, any chance you could provide a link please?
hey it's the old "Species" cover from R1.
Why would anyone waste the blue-ray format on a movie like "Species"? There are far better films more deserving of it.

There are a number. DVDTalk has one, as do High-Def Digest, DVDAuthority, HomeTheatreSpot and so on... It's basically a featureless MPEG-2 encoded disc, but at least it's the director's cut.

Thanks Chris.
I hear it's bare-bones as they opted to dump it on a BD25/Single Layer disc. Way to go Fox.

Yeah, either that or rights issues with the extras. Still sounds like the best available version in terms of Audio/video, but still some way short of what the format can deliver. Pity really, as it's one of my favourite films and one of the ones I'd replace with a high-def version.
The DVD is also by Fox MGM too, so I can't see it being a rights issue. Personally I think it's a bit overrated but if I did like it enough the lack of extras wouldn't stop me.
p.s - FYI the DVD Talk review is the old disc.
