A big let down for me - Mann could do and has done better....
One of the most boring action movies I've seen in a while.
It's all about Gong Li, Naomie Harris, and Elizabeth Rodriguez. IMHO, the women kept this movie from being unwatchable. Getting the guy from The Wire to play Stan Switek was a nice casting choice too. Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx are two of the most overrated actors currently working today....Might get the Blu-Ray even though I already have the SD-DVD.....
At least it's the unrated Directors Cut which is an improvement on the theatrical release. While it's far from Michael Mann's best it is better than many people give it credit for, on the proviso that you forget the title of the film and thus you don't continually compare it to the TV series.
I will be interested to see how the film is reviewed by 'early adopters', when it was released on HD DVD many of them complained how it had a video look about it which reminded them of an episode of COPS. As the film was shot entirely on Hi-Def Video this was the intended look. Me thinks these aforementioned critics should perhaps stick to watching Pixar films, that way they can bang on endlessly about colours that 'pop'!

Far from great, but somehow I like it enough, will probably get the BD anyway

my thoughts exactly. while it isnt Mann's best, I thought it was a really good movie. Definately one of my top 5 from '06. Not sure if it's worth it to pick up the Blu-Ray when it's extras are exactly the same as the regular SE DVD.

The thing that irked me the most about the film was how they just grabbed two independent plots from two separate episodes of the show and smashed them together into one storyline with minor tweaks and updates. The least we can ask for in a big budget take on a classic TV series is an original story. Come on, that's just lazy writing...

I liked it, even though the mumbling got annoying. For Mann this was poor but even a poor Mann film is good.

Stick with the Miami Vice TV show!
I'm sorry, but this movie sucked! I'll take Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas over Jamie Foxx and Colin Farrell any day of the week!
Drink my milkshake, haters!
I never had the chance to see this. Will blind buy.
This was Mann's worst film - the characters had nothing to do with the TV show and the plot was wafer thin. The gun battle at the end was ok - but the rest of the film felt like a made for TV film.
Mann did go a bit overboard with all the fondling in the showers!
If you watch this movie and pretend that they intended it to be a comedy it's hilarious.
