This is a classic movie. Cynics can dismiss it all they want but the people who appreciate this movie realize how great it is. Not a first day buy but I'll have it by Thanksgiving. Avoid the remake at all costs.
It's beginning to bum me out that these B&W Blue Rays are embedded so that you can't stretch the picture full screen without using the zoom feature..at least not with Samsung..for the money you'd think they'd let the consumer choose the ratio to watch...for every two things I like with BD there's one that I don't....
You're complaining about them presenting the film in it's OAR? To fill your screen they would have to distort the image or cut off the top and bottom. It's NOT a widescreen film and there is no way to make it one without altering it - that's why there is no option.
...I appreciate the comment..but with any 4:3 DVD,b&w...like Universal horror films and literally hundreds of others..I CAN play them in widescreen without any distortion..it works with the Blue Ray player and another upconvert player I use,no matter the OAR.My comment refers only to B&W Blue Rays..and the "forced" OAR.
It's not a forced OAR, the format of Blu-Ray is 16X9. That's just how it is. Every single Blu-ray is 16X9, and if the film or show doesn't have that aspect, it's going to have the black bars either on the sides for 4X3, or on the top and bottom for anything wider than 16X9.
It's like non-anamorphic DVDs, the black bars are just going to be there.

Thanks...wish I had done better research...

4:3 blu-rays are 16:9, but the 4:3 picture is pillarboxed and letterboxed into a small little window in the middle of the screen.
Will this be black and white, colourised, or both ?
