Quote: n 1939 London, Miss Guinevere Pettigrew (played by Ms. McDormand) is a middle-aged governess who finds herself once again unfairly dismissed from her job. Without so much as severance pay, Miss Pettigrew realizes that she must - for the first time in two decades - seize the day. This she does, by intercepting an employment assignment outside of her comfort level - as "social secretary." Arriving at a penthouse apartment for the interview, Miss Pettigrew is catapulted into the glamorous world and dizzying social whirl of an American actress and singer, Delysia Lafosse (Ms. Adams).
Within minutes, Miss Pettigrew finds herself swept into a heady high-society milieu - and, within hours, living it up. Taking the "social secretary" designation to heart, she tries to help her new friend Delysia navigate a love life and career, both of which are complicated by the three men in Delysia's orbit; devoted pianist Michael (Mr. Pace), intimidating nightclub owner Nick (Mr. Strong), and impressionable junior impresario Phil (Mr. Payne). Miss Pettigrew herself is blushingly drawn to the gallant Joe (Mr. Hinds), a successful designer who is tenuously engaged to haughty fashion maven Edythe (Ms. Henderson) - the one person who senses that the new "social secretary" may be out of her element, and schemes to undermine her.
Over the next 24 hours, Guinevere and Delysia will empower each other to discover their romantic destinies.

I really want to see this, but can't believe we have to wait until August 19th. And it's going to be a double-sided disc? I hate those. I would expect that from Fox, but not Focus/Universal. They never do double-sided.

I agree Michael Greenwaldt that it's overused now-a-days. But it's actually nice because it's not an excuse for extras.
I am so mad I missed this in theaters but I can't wait to check it out on dvd. Although, does it really need to be a double-sided disc? Aren't we at the point where a widescreen disc would suffice? Oh well.
Be happy you missed it. I saw movies like this 30 years ago only they starred Julie Andrews--and they sucked Not sure what the budget on this was, but I'm guessing about $150,000 since the whole movie was shot in like 4 rooms. Be careful if you're allergic to fake british accents, since they are EVERYWHERE in this movie, and slightly different in every scene.
Plus, if you believed the Amy Adams/Lee Pace love story, I have some Florida swampland you might be interested in!
Otherwise, I loved it (LOL!)

I really want to see this. I'll check out anything Amy Adams is in atleast once!
I really liked this movie. Favorite so far this year, actually.
Sales artwork and menu screens added. I'll get you the retail artwork as soon as it's available
Well the sales artwork isn't too bad.
Looks great, saw the trailer and like it, will defo pick this up and yeah Amy Adams is way hot!
Artwork's pretty good, I'm glad they didn't use the atrocious poster. Not like I'd watch the movie or anything.
The artwork is very nice.
Will blind buy this since my mother hasn't seen it.
Movie looked decent, and so soes the artwork!
that young girl, is she from the movie "ENCHANTED"?
BTW all the focus features are 5 star... god

Well, I did see the film and it's really cute. Truth be told, the first 15 minutes were somewhat difficult for me. It was like a bad play, or movie from the 40's. Very stagey. But it picked up quickly, and nicely.
"Cute" is a good word for it. It's a bit corny but it has enough charm to make up for it. Despite being a masculine male who thinks Road House is the greatest thing on celluloid, I found myself enjoying this.
Miss Pettigrew is quite a different character in the book - they changed the character quite a bit
