I have the two disc edition as well. I MIGHT consider getting this set. It all depends on how much it wows me, hehehe. I'm really tired of all of these re-releases, though. This must be the triple-dip for this film!
I'll think I will stick with my 2 disc edition I have at home - oh why do they nother sometimes????
The quest for more money.....

the double dipping continues.

This and the 23 rd reissue of THE DARK CRYSTAL
I'll pass also. Maybe they should call this "The Spamalot Edition"???
I got a copy I am happy with, no need to go back to it for me.
The film and the extras look to be the same as the previous Spec Ed. Adding the soundtrack CD seems a bit pointless. I'm a fan of the film and Python and have the both of the above already. I would think most fans of Python are the same as well. Unless I'm mistaken about the extras, this is just a re-package isn't it?
What we really need over in the UK is a proper Life of Brian DVD. Hopefully Sony will see fit to do this in the near future. Does the Criterion licence (re the L.O.B Criterion Edition) have to expire before another distributor can use those extras. It's happened before. BVI used Criterion's Armaggeddon, Tenenbaum's and Life Aquatic's extra's for R2. I wonder if Sony can do the same. Although I would think the situation is more complicated as it involves Python. It's a mystery why the UK gets the thin end of the wedge when it comes to Pyton material particularly as they originated here. I suppose (having read the Python biography) the answer to that lies in the fact that initial rights to various TV and films (in the UK) are bound up differently/tighter than the distribution rights in the US. I think by the time Python got to America, they were a little more clued up so that they could retain more control over their material. How and what it could (and couldn't) be used for.
What was the thread again? Kind of went to the Bahama's on that one.

Why can't they include the complete Japanese version from the Criterion Laserdisc? I can't imagine a mono Japanese track and English subtitles takes up that much room!
Funny because I look at the back of the 2d Special Edition I have and it says "The Ultimate Definitive Final Special Edition DVD"
Well, those of you who already own the CE can probably buy the soundtrack separately...assuimg you even want it.
I wish they had called this the "How Neccessary!" Edition in honor of the dude who just said that above.
Ahh, at least Sony isn't, you know, wasting its time releasing long-overdue special editions of The Fisher King or The Adventures of Baron Munchausen. That would just be god damn silly.

Low blow! I paid $42 bucks for that massive collector's edition in that bulky black box! Jeez. This is my favorite comedy of all time, but I dont think its worth it.
Perfect for me, since I love this film and have yet to buy it. Comedy classic.
I think it's the fourth. So far there's been:
1. "Deluxe Widescreen Edition" which I think just the film
2. "Special Edition" 2 Disc set with commentaries and everything else on disc two
3. "Collector's Edition" the same as the SE just in a big box that comes with a few extra goodies such as the screenplay and a film cell. This is the one I personally own.
now...
4. this new "Deluxe Edition."
Anyway, I'm happy with the CE I've got now and I'm not about to throw down another $30 for an upgrade.

This is the 4th or 5th dip.
I own the black collectors edition with screenplay.

I bought the humungo episode box set which is awesome. This is a buy. The extras and soundtrack disc make it worth while. I have the original bare bones version and it's kind of hollow. It's on the list.
How Necessary!

That's an interesting quote, Gabe. I was thinking about this the other day after the supply and demand arguments in the Star Wars thread. I think the studios are pretty clued up when it comes to the collectible nature of DVD, and know that people will buy these films over and over just to say they have the latest editions, regardless of whether they actually wanted an updated release. People moan about it all the time, but then they go out and buy them!
I'm pretty strict with myself. The only films I buy more than once are when the original transfer was really bad (non-anamorphic, loads of artefacts etc), when it was a bare-bones release (in the case of Pulp Fiction etc) or it was a flipper (Goodfellas). I refuse to buy multiple copies of the same films when there's nothing of any real value added to the set. A slight improvement in video quality and a new featurette just isn't enough. That said, I do have multiple copies of a few films, but those tend to be ones that I got for free (such as Mr./Lady Vengeance, Star Wars, Matrix etc).

Ridiculously unnecessary.
Another one?! They cant be serious with this double dipping c**p.... Extras appear to be identical to the last edition too (except for some spliced together commentary). Who keeps buying these new, unecessary editions?
I can't believe this is being rereleased again. It seems like just yesterday that expensive Collector's Edition came out. I don't own the film yet though, so I may pick this one up.
If you sell it, they will come...
Isn't this like the 5th release of this haha. Lucky I still haven't picked this up
.
