My favorite non-Vietnam related Oliver Stone movie is going Blu-Ray. Just might have to look into picking it up....

will both versions be included?
Nope...as with many blu-ray releases, they only include the theatrical version. they should either only put out the definitive version AKA the directors cut, or include them both on the disc. now we will have to wait for the inevitable "directors cut" on blu-ray 4-5 months down the line
As I understand it Warner Bros don't own the distribution rights to the Directors Cut. If you want that version stick with the DVD or else wait until Lionsgate release it on Blu-ray.
Will pick this up, can't wait!
Why dont a lot of BDS take advantage of all the extra space to include both cuts? Live free or die hard, commando, this and several others. It's annoying b/c the standard dvds fit both cuts on there.
Possibly Stone's worst.
Warner don't own the rights to the DC (not just America but anywhere). It's that simple.

I think you forgot how awful this movie is.
Natural Born Killers is not Stone's worst movie. It's just so over-the-top, it satirizes itself rather than its original intentions (i.e. serial killers & media).
It's worth a look, but not a keeper to me personally.

The director's cut is far more superior than the theatrical cut.
What's the difference between the two cuts? Can someone give me details?
IMDB will have full details but it not only changes the fate of some characters it more truthful to how they would act and react. It adds up to only 3 minutes but it makes a pretty big difference. It's too much to list all the changes, but check the alt. versions section on imdb.

LMAO! Pointlessness in High Def!
The cut to ribbons "Theatrical Cut" only?
Roll up Roll up it's the future! The future format!
All your c**ppiest versions in glossy high definition so you can see how c**p they are all the better!
Who the hell would want this version?
SUPERB film, but go for the 'DC' on budget DVD. It looks perfetly fine and is the only version worth bothering with.
The future of home entertainment?
Expensive releases of cut films where the uncut versions can be got on standard DVD for almost nothing?
The uncut version has been out for years on DVD and can be picked up for about £3 in sales all the time!
This is a step backwards!
No thanks.
And I really have to question why anyone would want this just because it's high def. Surely the film itself matters first and foremost, and the best version of the film you can pick up for a 6th of the price of this thing on standard DVD.

The "Natural Born Killers" director's cut (as with most "director's cuts" ) isn't nearly as good as the theatrical version. There is a BUNCH of added material, but it really doesn't make the movie any stronger. I think people just like seeing Tommy Lee Jones' head on a stick.
The courtroom stuff is TERRIBLE and never should have seen the light of day.

I too think the DC is superior. It's only 4 minutes long but in reality makes hundreds of changes to the film, all for the better.
I agree with the earlier poster, pick up the DVD, but not R1 as it's non-anamorphic. The UK and Australian releases are good though.

Has there been a new Director's Cut then?
Because the courtroom scene was never in the DC! What are you on about? Have you even seen the DC?
I have the DC on the original NTSC 2 tape VHS release and on UK DVD...and the dourtroom scene is not and never has been in the film.
It was just in deleted scenes.
The DC is in fact made up of almost all restored violence edits made for the c**ppy 'R' Theatrical Version, and there is a ton of great stuff put back.
It's the ONLY way to see the film.
About 150 odd censor cuts are restored...How can that not be the only way to see the film?
And how can such a cut Theatrical version be the best?
Dear me.

I thought the issue was that Warner won't release NC-17 stuff, which is essentially what the DC is. Can't remember where I read that though and it might be a load of s**t. It was a Cinema Club release over here, Trimark in the States I believe.

Warner has released it in the past... no? http://www.amazon.com/Natural-Born-Killers-Oliv...

As far as I know that's the theatrical cut.
The entire package looks great.
This is one of my favorite films of all-time, and probably second favorite OS film next to Platoon. I can honestly see why some people hate it though.

Really like that kind of packaging, like a book. I have this on VHS with interviews and stuff... not the greatest movie...
Quote: The entire package looks great.
Yeah...what a great package!
You get a little book. Yessssss!
You also get 150 censor cuts!!
Am I alone in saying this is an absolute S**T release that absolutely NO ONE should buy and support?
For God's sake! Where have all the die hard fans gone?
There used to be a time when getting an uncut version of a film was the most important aspect even if it sometimes meant perhaps getting a lesser quality one, perhaps on a VHS dupe...But that was okay as it wasn't cut to ribbons.
Now it seems you only have to dangle the words 'High |Def' in front of them (big f**king deal! Standard DVD's are still great looking and to those of us who remember 2nd generation VHS dupes they ARE High Def in comparison to those!) and all of a sudden so called movie fans could not care less if a censor raped version of the film is the one they buy (even with perfectly fine, nice looking, very cheap standard DVD versions out there...No need to get a 2nd gen VHS now!) semmingly because the advance in technology has swamped the once far more important aspect of loving THE MOVIE rather then the amount of F**KING PIXELS ON DISPLAY!!
Hang your heads in shame anyone who buys ans supports this f**king garbage! Which as far as the FILM goes is a massive step backwards after the fight to get the uncut, as intended to be seen, version out there and seen.

No you're not alone Dave. I'd have thought that was obvious by the comments above, from those who also prefer the DC. So get off your high horse.
It doesn't stop this being a decent release, and anyway people do prefer different cuts of films. I'm sure there are some people who prefer the TC.
I already said I prefer the DC and thus won't be buying this, but I can see it's still a decent release.
Warner don't own the rights to the DC. Even if they wanted to they cannot suddenly release it when they don't own the rights to it. That would be illegal. I think Lionsgate own the DC rights in America now, it used to be Trimark.
Chris Gould wrote: I thought the issue was that Warner won't release NC-17 stuff, which is essentially what the DC is.
It's mentioned on the IMDB listing, but Warner have released Unrated discs in the past. Not that it's relevant here when they legally don't own the rights to the DC.

wishy washy rubbish! You went on to call it a decent release!
You don't CARE at all.
So I'll stay on my high horse thanks, looking down at the shameful tech w***es where once stood film fans.
A butchered print (where a fine uncut print is cheaply and easily available as well!) is a decent release?
Why?
Because it has a little book and more pixels??
Can't see any other reason as even the extras are not better than the standard UNCUT release.
And again...The DC is NOT a different cut! How many more times??
The DC is simply the original version of the film before it was censored by outside parties!
It's nothing to do with different cuts/added scenes...There's no extra scenes as such at all.
The scenes removed from the film by Stone remain out of the DC version.
And what people are these that prefer versions of movies with massive censorship imposed on them???
And who cares about 'rights'? The uncut version IS THERE.
NOW.
TO BUY. For far less money!
Only those who care more about Blu-Ray than movies care about who releases a cut to ribbons version of a film.
A release with 150 censor cuts....on a film available uncut with just as many extras...is a 'decent' release??
How does that work?
Oh right, because ONLY thing you can even remotely use to defend that laughable statement is that it's in high def! Which proves my point!
There is nothing decent about this release to anyone who loves the film itself or films in general quite frankly.
There is NO REASON to even buy this unless more pixels means more to you than not having 150 censored moments.
So like I said...Where the hell have all the fans gone? All the movie lovers?
As all I see are pixel junkies injecting 3rd rate versions of films into their veins PURELY because it may (and only may) look a bit better.
Such an attitude would have once been a laughing stock a few years ago, where movie fans (before there even were easy to get uncut DVD versions of films, like with "NBK" ) worked hard and trawled film marts and magazine ads to find uncensored, unmolested versions of films.
Now?
People happily jump up and buy at full price butchered to hell versions of films (or call such a release 'decent' ) because the shiny bits dazzle them!
SHAME on anyone who supports this farce! What the hell point is another company going to the trouble of releasing the uncut, as it was meant to be seen, version when tech zombies shuffle along and buy up a censored release PURELY because it has...........................................more pixels!
Sad days indeed when we see a butchered film release described as a 'decent' release.
Oh.......what's the point?! It's like talking to a wall.

F**k me you're a moaner. As Bradavon has pointed out, Warner don't own the rights to the DC, so they're releasing the best version they can. There is undoubtedly a market for this release and they're in the business of making money. It's not a difficult concept to grasp.
So what if a few people think this looks like a good release and are thinking about buying it? Perhaps they own the DC on DVD and want this as a companion piece. Perhaps the theatrical cut is the only version they've ever seen and they're perfectly happy with it. Whatever the reason, it's hardly worth three ranting posts. We get it, you are a 'hard core' film fan. You can relax now.

Yeah...You carry on being goggle eyed at all the little pixels!
F**k the movie!!!!!
Give me those extra pixels!!!!!
And happiness in ignorance is surely something to be fought against!
If some people are only familiar with the censored to hell Theatrical Cut then it is surely not the thing to do to keep them in ignorance with an even more sparkle covered release of the 150 censor cuts travesty.
Surely it is time to tell them to seek out the uncut DVD and not upgrade the s**t they have to a slightly more polished turd!
If you tech w***es won't denounce such awful releases, some of us will.
And as for rights...Wanky Warners should not have released it then!
And if they do, as they have, surely it is YOUR...YOUR...duty to inform them that this 'next gen' release is actually a tragic rush backwards into the censored travesty we had already overcome on standard DVD years ago!
But if you lot won't show your readers the truth behind farcical PR garbage like "EVEN MORE STARTLING ON BLU-RAY" (yeah..those 150 separate censor cuts look even better now!) I guess others will have to.

F**k me do you ever quit! It has been said many times Warner Brothers don't have the rights to release the directors' cut so why keep b***hing?
Personally I didn't even know Natural Born Killers had been censored. I remember watching the pirate video of NBK and absolutely loved the film. Incidentally it's the only pirate video I have ever watched. 6 plus months later I saw it when it eventually appeared at the cinema, taped it off the TV, bought the DVD (theatrical) and absolutely loved it every time. Then came along the directors' cut DVD(bought and own that too) and truthfully I can't say I thought it was much better.
It's not like the international cut of Leon which is far superior to the original theatrical version. Anyway I'm sure that as blu ray becomes more popular the directors' cut of NBK will be released as will other titles. I think the thing you have to remember is early adopters pay the price for being the first to buy new technologies. So like DVD the first editions are not going to be the best, more often than not you'll buy whatever edition is available and in five years new spanking editions including both cuts and better AV will probably be released.

I believe I said they should not have released this then! And if they have someone with f**king sense and a love of film that goes past the amount of pixels on show should state how weak a release this is...as well as a huge step backwards on what is meant to be a next gen format!
LMAO!

I actually prefer the theatrical cut. Sorry: it's how I first saw it and it blew me away back then. The Director's cut is superb, but the extra gore and violence didn't make any difference to my enjoyment of such a superbly shot and acted movie!
Certainly, the theatrical version's legitimate release doesn't seem worthy of a four-letter word frenzy! There was a time in the UK when no cut the film could get released on VHS or DVD! I had to record it off the TV!
Also, note that Oliver Stone clearly has involvement with this release. Rather than a 'censor-raped' release, this should simply be seen as one of two existing versions of the film!

Rubbish!
Stone's intro to the PROPER version of the film makes it very clear that the uncut version is his version and he states how pleased he is to finally be able to present it.
The fact is this censored to hell turd of a version had been consigned to the bustbin of history.
You have to go back to VHS, almost pre-DVD, days to find this censored travesty getting distribution!
It was rightfully tossed into the trash and forgotten about.
As such a censored version of any film should be!
But what happens now?
In 2008, on the next generation format...this same censor raped version of the film is back into distribution!
It's a f**king disgrace!
Quote: I actually prefer the theatrical cut
150 outside party cuts made to the film and you prefer it?
Okaaaayyyy....
Then be of good cheer as you can upgrade your turd of version to a shiny mighty pixel one!
So you can wallow in the greatness of all those censor cuts to basically every single action/violence sequence.
Quote: There was a time in the UK when no cut the film could get released on VHS or DVD! I had to record it off the TV!
NO? Really? Wow. Thanks for the history lesson.
And actually you've just proved my point...this s**t release goes almost right back to that time! Oh what joy!
A 2008, next gen Blu-Ray release that goes backwards nearly 6 years as far as the movie content is concerned for the UK and 9 years for the U.S!
*sniff* Brings a tear of joy to the eye.
This version of "NBK" is as unwelcome as the lousy 'R' rated "True Romance".
But I bet you prefer that one too.
For Christ' sake...even the extras on this release are 2nd rate compared to the uncut standard DVD, and in fact to the old NTSC double VHS which and the superb 'NIN' "Burn" video.
There is just NO reason for this release to exist!
It's the (rightfully) long out of distribution censored version with less extras!
So it exists because??? It's a decent release because???
Oh yes...Those extra pixels!
Well you enjoy it. Knock yourselves out. Please.
