Disney also got the distribution rights for Ghibli and, thanks to John Lasseter, has given wide releases to recent Miyazaki movies.
Concerning "Open Season", it actually allowed Paul Westerberg to get a paycheck with the songs on the sountrack, which could not be a bad thing.

Yeah, but bear in mind that the kids of today also live in a world where computer games are a more socially acceptable and popular entertainment medium, and most kids also get into reality TV shows too (I run a few local youth groups and all they talk about is computer games, I'm a Celebrity... and X-Factor). So having rubbish TV shows for kids is more about a lack of demand. BBC have abolished their once-classic Saturday morning line-up altogether.
Also, Disney did Pirates of the Caribbean. Love them or hate them, kids flocked to those in droves. You only need to look at the merchandising to know that Disney was well aware that kids made up a fair chunk of the audience.
Frankly though, if Pixar is all they've got, I'd be happy to sacrifice quantity for more consistent quality than has ever been seen.

But lets not forget that the kids of today have been able to grow up with Ratatouille, Finding Nemo, WALL-E... basically all of Pixar's catalogue. When I was a kid all I had was Toy Story. And granted, Disney's renaissance too. But still, this isn't an altogether terrible time to be a kid.
Pixar is all they have. Disney has come out with maybe 2 great animated/semi animated films since their renaissance (Lilo & Stitch, Enchanted). Kids animated TV shows are no where near as brillient as they were in the 80-90's, at least here in the US. As far as movies go this is just another recycled sequel. Kids do have more Anime available to them, although in horrible dubbed quality.

True, I'm glad we finally have some kid-friendly movies coming out, not to mention good ones, such as the amazingness that is Wall*E. However, not this c**p. It's wierd, it seems that kids movies typically either rule, or suck.
