Phantasm II was the best.
I didn't really enjoy any of the others.

I actually really liked Oblivion, but it left me with more questions than answers.

The frowning face says it all. My only hope is that they are saving it for a super delux edition, to give it the proper treatment it so richly deserves. Only then will the ball truly be back.

Oblivion has been available from MGM on DVD for a while now, so I'm wondering if perhaps Anchor Bay has no rights...
I kind of liked the first one, but the rest are utterly pointless.
Give us the box set in the sphere packaging!!!

Did you actually see them, or are you making assumptions?

If I'm not mistaken, I don't think Anchor Bay has the rights to Phantasm II. I'm pretty sure it still belongs to Universal. If these special editions sell well, maybe they'll decide to join in the fray.

Seen them all, couldn't understand what was going on in any of them really. This is one of the most confusing franchises I've ever seen.

I have never seen the major horror franchises (ie Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, Hellraiser, etc). Someone who recently entered my life is going to change all that, and these three films are one of the many horror series I will be "cultured" by.
That is strange that Anchor Bay only has the rights to the first and third films. If the second is as good as you all say, I'm pretty sure it will arrive at some point in time.
And for the record, the only Phantasm I know is the Dana Delaney/Stacy Keach voiced villain from the glorious animated Batman film Mask of the Phantasm. But I have heard of this franchise before and never knew what it was about except references to the villain known as "The Tall Man." I just read the plot outline for Phantasm on IMDB and am confused as to what he really is. Would someone care to enlighten this horror franchise deprived college boy?

The series is very odd, and the first film is a bit of a chore at times as it sets up the universe, but I think by the time you get to the second film it's more standard fun. 3 is a bit too 'heady', but 4 gets back on track. I'm hoping they continue.
If you don't mind me spoiling the first film a bit, Spoiler basically there's this alien called the Tall Man that is going from small town to small town harvesting dead bodies, turning them into compacted zombies, and sending them to his planet as slave labor. Two brothers and their friend figure out what's going on and try to stop him. After the first episode it turns out things are a little more complicated, and the fact that Coscarelli seems to want to be a little too mysterious makes the films a little frustrating. I think they're good fun, but I actually don't reccommend them to most people. I'd say they're actually more Sci-Fi than horror.
And for the record, Mask of the Phantasm is still the best Batman movie ever made. Just thought I'd reiterate.

LOL, Gabe, you're awesome. I agree with your last statement wholeheartedly.
Back on topic, though, this series does sound interesting. I also just saw on IMDB that the kid/guy who plays Mike didn't do number two, but the actors who play Reggie and the Tall Man are in all four, which surprises me because of the gap between each film. That's dedication right there. Will definitely give this series a go.
Thanks for the enlightenment, Mr. Powers.

Yes Mask of the Phantasm is the best Batman movie. Anchor Bay should release a special edition of that!
Um...Anchor Bay would have to go thru hell to purchase the rights for that film from Warner Bros.
Saw the first, didn't interest me enough to see the rest, but I did read that these sequels actually further the story, which I find intriguing
My father Wayne was the special effects coordinator on Phantasm 2. He built the four barrelled shotgun that everyone is fawning over. I'll have to tell him how much love that gun still receives.
I have the first film on DVD from MGM. I thought there might be more extras for P3. dang.
any real fan already has the region two sphere dvd set. these region one releases are just for dvd collectors to obtain to uphold an image to others. everyone who legitimately likes phantasm already knows the complete collection isnt being released in the states and discussion about the second one being released in the set is tired and pointless.

the guy who plays Mike is a terrible actor, so it's a blessing that he wasn't in Phantasm 2.

Jeez.
It's not like I don't know that the rights are insanely tied up (or lord knows there'd at least have been a c**p edition floating around for at least a little while longer)--doesn't mean I can't dream of an edition that doesn't require pal->ntsc conversion and an all region player...

Thought "Phantasm II" was owned by Universal. Thought the original "Phantasm" was quite good, and part 2 was awesome. 3 was a little weird for me, but still good. Wouldn't mind buying these...
Dunny....be prepared, the guy playing mike in the first came back for both parts 3 and 4...lol
Maybe this means that they will soon actually make Phantasm 5?
I love these movies, and I will pick these up. Does anyone like the artwork?

Well, it would be worth it. I'd be willing sell my bone marrow to get that film a good DVD.

why does anchor bay have to release it for it to be good? warner brothers has made some pretty good dvds

Thanks to the miracle of the internet, I now own #'s 2-4 which I've never been able to find in a store (at least not where I live - the SF/Horror selections around here are immensely disappointing).
Although I will likely buy the official versions once they hit retail.
