Quote: Every year the population of sleepy Lake Victoria explodes from 5,000 to 50,000 for Spring Break, a riot of sun and drunken fun. But this year, there's something more to worry about than hangovers and complaints from local old timers; a new type of terror is about to be cut loose on Lake Victoria. After a sudden underwater tremor sets free scores of the prehistoric man-eating fish, an unlikely group of strangers must band together to stop themselves from becoming fish food for the area’s new razor-toothed residents.

horrorfan25, exactly!! this was tremendous fun. i understand it's not for everyone but i've watched it many times and it's fun every time. i can only imagine how gory and over the top the sequel will be. i can't wait! and horrorfan25, personally i think you're better off buying the BR 2D version. the 3D in this was extremely poor quality (and i hate saying that because Aja is my fav) although it was a TRILLION BILLION MILLION times better 3D than SAW 3D's insulting, non-existent, ripoff/scam 3D was! lol.

Oh come on Chris, it's a fun homage to the 80's low budget creature features. It's got T+A, gore, A-listers, and likable characters. What more do you want?
And by likable characters, I mean Elizabeth Shue, Steven R. McQueen, Kelly Brooke, Jessica Szhor (spelling?), Riley Steele, and Adam Scott. But still, FIVE likable characters in a horror movie.
And we are supposed to HATE the spring breakers. So, they did a good job of making the audience hate them.

Agree 100%! I haven't seen Piranha 3D yet (I am defo blind buying), but I heard the T+A and gore is hard to top. Btw, was the 3D good? I'm getting the Blu-ray 3D version but I hope it turns out well because Bloody Disgusting said the 3D was awful.

If the 3D ends up not being too much more I think I will buy that to future-proof it. Plus I really love the look of the clear cases.

and for the record, Kelly Brook is SOOOOO freaking stunningly gorgeous that it's not even funny! so yes, Bman420, "Hilariously Sexy" is somewhat appropriate! LOL.
This movie was a blast!
Yes... because when I think of "Hilariously Sexy", Richard Dreyfuss and Christopher Lloyd come straight to mind.
i really like this movie and Aja is one of my all time favorite directors but even i can admit this was a BAD movie but in the best possible guilty pleasure way! lol. i LOVE the Black Xmas remake with all it's eyeball eating glory (the original is awesome! a genuinely good movie) much like i really like P3D. it's a total guilty pleasure. i don't really look at P3D as a "real" horror movie in a way. when i watch HIGH TENSION, or Aja's HILLS remake, now THEY are effective, serious and amazing movies (esp HIGH TENSION one of my all times favs). P3D? a great, fun, CAMPY knows-it's-a-comedy/horror movie? YES!

Did he/she got eaten? No offense might, coz if he/she didn't, I'm glad to hear it since the majority of people got eaten in this movie are dumbasses.

Christopher Lloyd (Back to the Future Franchise)... yuck, I hate that term, it sounds like it's a Burger King or McDonalds. What's wrong with trilogy?
Awesome art work!
Guilty pleasure. Simple as that. Will definitely be buying this on the first day! And I'm glad they're using the original poster for the cover!
Very entertaining if trashy movie. Will probably buy it.

Loved this film. Someone hit the nail on the head when they said "guilty pleasure". Some great, great effects work from Greg Nicotero. I wonder how much further they can go with Pirhanha 3DD?!
This was fun, I'll get it when it's on sale.

Piranha made $24,989,606 in the US and $49,669,363 in foreign territories off a 24 million dollar budget. I'm sure it will do quite well for the home market as well, I think calling hit a hit is about right. It wasn't exactly Avatar though...

$25 million? I don't know where you get your information. This made approximately $70 million. That's pretty good considering the budget was $24 million. In order for a movie to make its money back, it needs to make twice its budget and about half of its budget and Piranha 3D made a little more than 2.5 of its budget.
(BTW, 2.5 of its budget includes theater costs, advertisement, ect.)
And as for the "hit", they don't mean like a blockbuster success. They mean, for its budget, it's a success.
It made $25 million domestic. It was not a hit domestically. Wasn't a failure, either but I wouldn't refer to it as a hit.
???
I think I`m done with this site, and it`s posts of great wisdom

Made $75 million worldwide. Not bad for R-rated horror movie about killer piranhas, but judge it if you want.

Oh ok so they should go by your definition.

I'd watch this 30 times before Shrek 4.

I have the 3D Blu-ray setup and the 3D is just as good, if not, better than the 3D in theaters. (It's my opinion but I'm pretty sure most would agree).

1-disc BD for me.
Definitely picking up the Blu-ray 3D, despite its hefty price tag. Wanted to see this SOOO bad but never got around to it. I'm guessing one of the featurettes is of "Wild Wild Girls" because that's what Aja said. I REALLY hope that we get an unrated version!!!
If not, then I'll be slightly disappointed
If not, then I'll be slightly disappointed

it actually was somewhat of a hit, i believe it did make a profit with the worldwide earnings.
