Quote: From the creator of Love Actually and Notting Hill comes a trip back to the freewheeling, free-loving ’60s when the very rock music that inspired a generation was censored by the government. When a group of rebellious deejays decides to defy the ban, they take to the seas to broadcast music and mayhem to millions of adoring fans. Featuring a soundtrack that includes The Who, The Kinks, Jimi Hendrix, David Bowie, The Rolling Stones and many more, it’s a feel-great film based on a true story that critics cheer is “exuberant!” (John Powers, Vogue).

Seems like a better title to me 'The Boat That Rocked' really doesn't scream "You gotta see this!"

They re-named and recut the movie late last year. Why are you surprised now?

What was cut out

Having seen both versions and currently own 'The Boat That Rocked' on PAL DVD, here's what I saw cut out of 'Pirate Radio.'
Spoiler: X The ENTIRE Stag Nite for Simon. The only thing they used really is a completely alternate shot of the guys giving Simon a cupcake lined with cigarettes instead of candles.
A small portion of Simon post-breakup with Eleonore where he's seen in the studio in a state of sadness while listening to News John report the story of how he had the shortest wedding in history.
The scene where fans of Radio Rock get to take a tour of the ship and Agent T**t sneaks into the engine room to try and sabotage the ship.
The brief scene of Marianne and Margaret stepping on board the boat and The Count attempting to flirt with Margaret ("Do you think you could ever love a man with a funky Fu-Manchu?" "No." "I could shave it." )
Some alternate music was used as well, most notably The Who's 'My Generation' was used instead of The Rolling Stones' 'Lets Spend the Night Together' after The Count pretends to stop broadcasting ("ONLY KIDDING DUDES! LETS ROCK!" ).
The end credits music was also changed from David Bowie's 'Lets Dance' to The Kinks' 'All Day & All Nite'.
That's the most I could remember! For the record, I LOVED this film and had been anticipating it all throughout the late Spring/Summer of 2009. I even subscribed to The Boat That Rocked Podcasts via iTunes. Very upsetting that it didn't do better at the box office. But it still remains my 2nd favorite film of 2009, with Zombieland being 1st.
"ROCK ON!!!"-Thick Kevin.

It was cut and renamed because the original cut and title bombed spectacularly.
Does anyone know exactly what they got?
I was lucky enough to catch this in the U.K. before they renamed and recut it for North America and I actually really liked it, the ending was out of left field, but it was pretty decent. I'm scared to see what they cut out of the US version, but I'll probably buy it still, the movie didn't do too well in the box office.
The person behind Phillip Seymour Hoffman is dressed up as The Joker.
Re-named and re-cut.

I wasnt honestly looking forward to this AT ALL...but after I saw it.. I loved it! Will be buying.
Never saw this, will actually rent.
Was really excited for this one... and it let me down big time. So many great stars, but the story just wasn't there.

I'd just import it. The BD is region-free.
The movie was good, but already a half hour too long. Another 12 minutes will be way too much.
