This is a great movie.
I just picked up the two disc edition. The side of the case underneath the Pirates of the Caribbean name has a giant red 2. It looks rediculous. The front of the case doesn't even have it. Why slap a 2 on the side when you can see perfectly well that it's different from the first one.
It seems, like the previous film, that this will only be available in the Widescreen format. That means I can safely ask for this for Christmas.
DVD art is gawdawful. One I made is a helluva lot better, aye, it is.
Get rid of the number 2 on the SPINE!!!
The only complaint I have about both versions of the Dead Man's Chest DVDs is the number "2" on the Spine. Why is it there? Is it neccesary? I mean the synopsis alone probably on the back of the boxes when they come out are enough giveaways that it's the second film in the series. You don't need a number on the box, there's not a number "1" on the Black Pearl DVD box. GET RID OF IT!!!
This is one of the best movies of the year, however I wont buy the dvd and didn't bought the first one because i'll avoid the double dip and wait for the trilogy boxset.
gawd - just realised - "5.1 Enhanced Surround Sound" - isn't this a modern movie? Where is the DTS-ES sound???
Still no DTS and now, no At World's End preview?
I didn't notice the commentary track the first time I read over this. Definitely will pick up the 2-disk. I hate that Gore and Johnny are not doing another commentary. The one they did for the first film was great.
I honestly didn't like this very much. Of course I did have a headache while watching it and felt like getting up and leaving several time so who knows that might have effected my judgment. I certainly didn't like the endless unfunny jokes in this. There was a few here and there. It started off great with Jack shooting the bird but after that not much and Keira Knightly was ten times as annoying in this as the last one. She's very beautiful but awfully annoying in this role. I'll definitely rent and rewatch to see how I feel the second time.
Yarrrrrgh!
Sorry. That's really all I wanted to get in, aside from I shall definitely be picking this one up. Loved every minute of this flick.

nice silver border on the special edition... ok i'm joking, way to not try Disney.
UK gets it first by 2 weeks. Sucks to be American, I guess.
on a side note gore verbinski said that there should be a Trailer for Worlds end on this plus you can now pre order the movie on itunes as well 12.99
why is the R2 not up yet? HMV have full specs
Is it me or the 2 disc looks like the Director's cut version of King Arthur???
Yaaaaaar, tis the 2-disc fer me. It shivers me timbers and shakes me booty.
What the hell? They better have a Zimmer featurette in one of those documentaries. At least Sony gave him his own featurette with Da Vinci Code. The music was a huge part of this film, damn them if they don't have a Zimmer featurette.
seemed not bad from what I saw
Rent :p
Rent :p
yes we are talking like pirates, me heartie, can't wait to get me hands on that booty on November 20th
Argh! Anyone be talking like a Pirate yet?!
Or are we all waiting until it comes out...? ;-)

According to hmv.co.uk it's out on R2, Nov 20
Final specs added me harties!
So Disney should annouce this officialy today, me hearties, hopefully they'll give it good treatment or we'll make them walk the plank arrgh
Superman Returns was awful. Kate Bosworth sucked as Lois Lane, and they brought in that whole subplot with Lois Lanes child being , well you know (Didn't want to spoil it). The ending was just lame, just because it goes against one of Supermans biggest rules (hint : Kryptonite does what? ). Also, Brandon Routh was a horrible Superman, I wanted Tom Welling.

Not only did the action fail to impress but the acting did as well. Sure Superman Returns can have drama, but it should ultimately be an action film, and it DID fail in that aspect.
I'm calm, just extremely dissagreeing. No one said Superman would have action packed film. It was supposed to be like Spider-Man 2 and Batman Begins. Both had a small amount of action and were great, as was Superman Returns. You obviously do not understand one bit. Just because he has these amazing powers, doesn't mean it HAD to be an action based film. Superman is more than just his powers, the film was trying to show his human side, it succeeded. There was plenty of action: Plane Sequence, Bank Robbery, Action Comics scene, Daily Planet Glode, Beating on NK, New Krypton rising, Superman chucking you know what into space etc. That is more than enough for me. Would I have been upset if there was more? No. Would I like to see more now that I know more about Superman's fuman side? Yes. This is why X-Men 3 failed miserably, it has too much action, so much, that it got boring, similar to this. Both X-Men and Pirates failed as a whole.

Tell me, where did it say it was supposed to be an action film... Or have loads of action in it? It was a human drama, a great one, with a few spectacular action sequences sprinkled on top. Dead Man's Chest was so full of action, it got repeatative and extremely boring in some parts. It's really dumb that Superman is worse because it has less action. It does, but it's for the better.

Well, I loved the first film, I saw the 2nd at the midnight showing and fell a sleep that half hour. So would like to see it again on DVD. I thought the first have hour was a mess trying to figure out a story line, then we get the to be continued which kind of pissed me off. Was a fin popcorn flick.
Superman was ALOT better then this. For some reason this movie had a huge TEEN appeal to it.

Couldn't agree with you more. I wept when I left the theater. Because I loved the first film so much. Still, I'll be first in line to see #3. But I sure as hell won't be buying this.

There are so many better movies that came out this year that are better than Pirates... like United 93, Brick, V for Vendetta, Clerks IIand of coarse, Superman Returns.

Wow, I'm surprised that this is coming out so soon. But I am excited about this release. I was impressed with the amazing visual effects, and even the decent story. I hope the featurettes are worth a 2-disc release.

I enjoyed it, but I didn't think it was good enough to warrant a $400 million dollar gross. Fun? Yes. Exciting? Yes. Funny? Yes. Best movie of the summer? Eh... no. (That honor would go to "Superman Returns", I think POTC 2 is overrated.)
can't wait for the next one
I was kinda disappointed with this one, I still enjoyed it, but it wasn't half as good as the first one, I hope that the final installment will be better.
I just felt that they tried to cram to much into one movie, and not everything worked.

Best movie of the summer. AMAZING SCORE BY HANS ZIMMER. A must buy, cannot wait!.
It'll be interesting t revisit this, wasn't that big a fan in theatres.
Nice art. I'll be going with the two disc, but why couldn't they have just released the 2 disc at a lower price like disney did with the first?

I am a bit disappointed with this DVD release. The first movie's DVD release is still one of the best two-disk releases out there. They are definitely holding back here for a mega release of all three films. But like a sheep, I will flock and get the 2 disk version.
Same here, I have no patience to wait for a Multi Box set.

I never saw him as gay, just a little weird. I guess if a viewer wanted to think he was gay, they could see it, but I dont think that was the intent from Depp. I saw him more flirtatious with Keira's character than Orlando's. Being a little weird and flamboyant does not make him gay. I guess we all may have seen it as different. That is just my 2cents there.
I remember reading an interview with Johnny Depp that his two influences in creating the Jack Sparrow character were Keith Richards and a drag queen. I don't think his character is gay at all - just a wacky and flamboyant pirate.

Talk like a pirate day? TALK LIKE A PIRATE DAY!?
Anyway, definitely looking forward to this release. It sucks for the Blu-ray people that Disney isn't putting this on that format for at least a year.

Yeah I don't get the "wait till december" when it's been released in December. Are they planning a 3 discer next year?
Why do people keep saying "wait til december"? Doesn't this come out in Decemeber or are they talking wait til December '07?
I was hoping for another Gore/Depp commentary and for the 2-disc art not to look like ass with that border. Really wish companies would stop doing this single and double release c**p on the same day. When there were only 2-discs, it would cost the same as the single's currently do.

Just looking through that publicity material - what the hell is 'Talk like a Pirate Day'?!?! And who organised it? Argh! etc...
Enjoyed the film, though a bit of trimming would have done no harm.

I too am sick of the inflated price of the 2 disc editions. Especially when you get home and the extras ibthat 2nd disc SUCK. $16.99 for the single disc and $19.99 for the 2 disc for the initial release. Many disc have been released like that and that should be the norm.
Yo ho, yo ho....
Boring beginning, but good conclusion. Wouldn't care to see it again, though.
Definitely buying the 2-Disc.

Nice Christmas present. :-)
I knew that would be the cover art, just wish they'd put the title above the characters like the first film's art, but with the layout they have, it wouldn't be feasible on this artwork.
This is the best film of 2006. I'm not saying that cuz of the money it's making. It really is a great movie. Kinda dragged on the first time I saw it, but it was enjoyable, and I enjoyed it more and more three more viewings later.
Curse of the Black Pearl is still the better of the two, but Dead Man's Chest comes damn close. Looking forward to At World's End next May and any other sequel they plan on making after sealing this trilogy.
A shame that this film won't knock Titanic off it's pedestal as the highest grossing movie in the US...there's always next year, though.

I loved this film. I will definately be picking it up in the 2 disc form.
I loved this movie and can't wait until the DVD comes out. I love the single disc artwork, however, I detest how movie studios are making the 2-disc artwork clunky and ugly. Why not just only come out with a 2-disc set like they did before. They need to get rid of the fake stone and bolts border, similar to what they did for King Arthur and the upcoming extended Narnia.

Friggin' great movie. The kraken was awesome, the action's amazing and the comedy was great. However the look of Davy Jones' crew made me want to puke. Yes, a movie like this has its faults. The plot is disjointed and is obviously set up for #3, Orlando Bloom's character is a bit off, Johnny Depp is more comedic than serious, and Davy Jones was kinda goofy. I might pick-up the 2-disc if it's cheap. And hey you Disney execs- if you're gonna open the next one in May, put it 2 weeks after Spider-Man 3. This film is one of the reasons Superman bombed at the box office.

I do have to say that other trilogies (i.e. Star Wars, Lord of the Rings) worked well as continuations. I reserve my final opinion for when I see the third film.
I will also be holding off on buying this with the anticipation of the box set (hopefully with DTS) once the 3rd film is released next year. I'll rent it though!

Lets just hope when the finalize the specs there will be a DTS track or at least a Dolby digital 5.1 EX. Liked the movie and can't wait to see the next one. Typical cover art.
NO DTS?!?!?!??!?!?!??!?!?!?!
And Disciple, Bill Nighy PLAYED Davy Jones. They just went the Andy Serkis/Gollum route.

This is the best film i've seen in a theater this year so far. It's everything i've ever wanted in a pirate film! It also has a lot of scenes that have to be seen to be belived. For example the scene with the melons at the beginning of the film and the one with the big wheel towards the end. Did I mention the visual effects? It's amazing how much they've managed to make Davy Jones (a completely CGI character)look and move like Bill Nighy. (The actor giving the voice) This has to win at least a couple of the technical awards at the Oscars come mars! Depp was nominated for the first one. Can't see why he wouldn't be nominated yet again.
This is the highest-grossing film of the year, and Disney KNOW how to extract money from people better than even Mr Lucas! There'll probably be loads of releases of this one; extended editions, special editions, boxed sets with the first one included, and then the inevitable trilogy.
The Double dip is something I can live with if notified. However this new two tier priceing is just wrong. I am sick of paying 25 dollars for the 2 disk, or 16.99 for the strip model. You could wait a few months till the single disk is in the 2 for $20 bin but the 2 disk only gets more expensive.
the best movie I have seen this year. I wonder if there will be a Narnia-like release later
at least they are releaseing both 1 disc and 2 disc versions - means we have one less double-dip....
Every person I have asked for their opinion on this film, I have heard many bad things about it.
I might give it a try.

I didn't like this as much as the first one but it was still a spectacularly entertaining ride of a movie. My main problem with the movie lies in the fact that the the plot came out of the action, instead of the first movie, wherein the action derrived from the plot. As a result, the storyline for this one felt like just an excuse for more adventures to take place (which was probably the point, but still). Other than that, I thoroughly enjoyed this movie and found the ending especially worthwhile, what with who shows up. I really think that in the next one, Keith Richards will be found bumbling along inside the Krakken, which would make for an eclectic entrance. Critique aside, I'll be there opening day to pick up the two disc edition of this movie, can't wait to blast this in surround sound.
Finally! I loved this movie and I can't wait to get the 2-Disc edition!!! The extras sound good and the artwork is very nice too.

The first film had both DTS ES and Dolby Digital 5.1 EX tracks, however, I think the director was just fine with the second film being given a standard Dolby Digital 5.1 track.
I guess Disney will save the DTS treatment for the inevitable trilogy release or a double-dip when the third movie is released on DVD. Pity.

No deleted footage? Wow, I'll wait until december.
Why would they put out a third edition that soon?

Did I miss some deleted scenes where he woke up with a naked man in bed? Why is it in this day and age anyone with the slightest eccentricity is automatically assumed to be gay?

Yeah, Johnny Depp had so much fun playing Jack Sparrow, that he's willing to do more POTC films beyond the planned trilogy (as long as the scripts are good).

I'm all over the 2-Disc.
I'm sort of hesitant about the saga Matrix-like direction they're taking the films in, and I wonder whether it would have been wiser to create separate adventures with each film like Indiana Jones. I suppose everything depends on the caliber of the third film (ooh, we get a preview on the DVD? Cool. Hope it's an Easter Egg).
It was a very fun movie either way.

I notice there's a great big number '2' down the side of the spine in the picture. Is there a similar number '1' down the side of the first one in R1 format?
Methinks I'll hold out for the 10-disc box set, or whatever they do for when all 3 are available. Having said that, according to interviews with Jerry Bruckheimer and Johnny Depp over on Empire (British film magazine), they're not gonna call it a day at a trilogy!

That would be fine with me, as long as the window of opportuniity is left open for another Pirates Trilogy! Um, ARRRG!

Decent fun, but the first was much better. I think I'll wait for the inevitable trilogy pack that I would assume is in the works for late next year.
POTC 2 is way better than Shrek 2 (and it's better than the first "Spiderman" film as well)... but then again, how much money a movie makes at the box office isn't always an indication of how good/bad it is.
I have a hard time believing that a total piece of c**p makes over $400 million, but then again I hated "Shrek 2".
WTF?!? This one gets a two disc set and Cars gets the shaft with one? Cause Cars really deserves it. I'm probably not going to pick this movie up as I really hated everything about it except for the new Disney logo. Come on Disney, if you make a c**ppy movie that makes a ton of money and a great film that also makes a lot of money (but not as much as the c**ppy film), the great film should at least get a two-disc release out of some respect.
They've announced that they will double dip with a special release for the Blu Ray edition next year. I'm guessing right around the release of World's End. I'll get this one regardless, but I'm curious as to what else they can do to convince me and every other person who loves this movie to 'double dip' next year...

The DVD wasn't even supposed to be announced until the 19th September - but lots of sites posted it early without permission. Therefore some of the specs may not be correct/finalised. We'll know for sure on the 19th.
see, I dont think that we can really judge this film because its not techincally a film, its only half a film. we dont get the conclusion until part 3 in 2007. things that seem random could be the biggest parts of the third film. so I hate when people say they hate the film, they havent even see the rest of it.
with that said, I liked the movie. but not as much as the first one. hopefully the third one will answer a lot of questions and conclude the triolgy.
i love the artwork.
