Will pick up this one because I don't own this film.
I was really hoping studios would get away from the bad edition titles thing. "Those Aren't Pillows Edition." Bleck.
I was all set to add it to my list of things to buy until I saw '"Those Aren't Pillows!' Edition" plastered across the top. I refuse to buy any DVD with an edition title like that.
Blu-ray or no go.
And what is up with the edition title? I mean, I know what it's a reference to, but still.

Buy it for a second time on DVD before you buy it for the 4th time (if you had the VHS) on Blu-ray!
I think the transfer on my original disc (the triple feature with Summer Rental and Foul Play) is decent, so I'll probably skip this.
I have the old edition. This would only be a buy for me if the "Airplane Food" scene was added, instead of just being a deleted scene. It was one of the funniest scenes in the film.
Those Aren't Pillows Edition? More Corny then the Don't Call Me Shirley Edition of Airplane. I wish they would make this a Blu-Ray film.
One of my favorite films ever! Glad they finally did a SE, it really needed one and deserved it so bad. So I plan on buying this when it comes out, a must own DVD for me!
Oh, I love the film so much I will even buy it with that overly Christmas feeling cover. If it means they will do a SE, than I know they gotta appeal to Xmas buyers so I understand. Still, this is not a Christmas film but a film worthy of viewing every Thanksgiving.

Come onnnnnn, Warners!...Seriously, a catalog reissue but no BLU-RAY?! That's criminally unacceptable at this stage of the format's life!....this announcement is particularly irksome as it is one of my all-time favorite comedies - right there behind Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and The Pink Panther Strikes Again (of which the Fassbender interrogation scene is one of the funniest damn 10 minutes of any movie EVER!)....
I guess there's still time for a simultaneous blu-ray release, but I'm not holding my breath....and as for the daft special edition title, man I thought it couldn't get any worse than "Bueller...Bueller...Edition". Clearly, Paramount has outdone themselves here.
BTW, what's with the Christmas packages? I know it's more or less considered a holiday film, but it's Thanksgiving that they are trying to get home for, not Christmas. Ahhh, whatever.

To lure in Holiday shoppers, we all know this isn't a true Christmas movie, but the studio wants to give the buyer that impression. I like the artwork, but the gifts on the bottom are corny.

andto think someone got paid to come up with that slogan to re-release this movie..."Those arn't pillows edition"................
The artwork is okay at the top, but bad at the bottom where the gifts are. Like mentioned above, they're going home for Thanksgiving.
And I don't mind the cheesy names of the editions (i.e. Don't Call Me Shirley Edition) as long as the name has significance. "Those aren't pillows," wasn't a very epic line in the movie for me to warrant naming the DVD after it.
I'll wait until they come out with a "F*cking Edition." Now THAT was a great line in the movie.

I love how you mentioned starring Kevin Bacon...
I'll wait for the Four F**king Wheels And A Seat Edition on blu-ray.

It's a great movie though. The IMDb trivia, which is no doubt at least a decade old, has Hughes mentioning how much work and expense it would take for Paramount to restore the deleted scenes to any sort of order. This doesn't really excuse their non-inclusion, and I am disappointed, but it's not really surprising that they aren't included.
As for the commentary, however, don't expect to see any John Hughes commentaries. He recorded one for Ferris Bueller's Day Off, which appeared on the original release (and the I Love the 80's edition which used the old discs), but he told Paramount to remove it from the "Bueller...Bueller..." edition of the DVD, and wouldn't allow them to include material he owned. He's a reclusive, introverted guy, and it's not likely he'll ever record another commentary for any of his films.

while i do agree with the comments on the title of the edition, and the christmas-themed packaging, this is in my all time top 5 movies, so i'll be picking it up, my original dvd from 2000 is just about worn out, so i could use a new one, plus the featurettes and the deleted scene (even though we've seen it all the time when its played on tv)
I will probably pick this up when it comes out, but what I am wondering is where the theatrical/teaser trailer and tv spots are? Also towards the end of this movie when Steve Martin gets on the train and that song starts up, it made me just tear up a little bit.

Yeah, I figured as much ("rhetorical question, Woodcock!" ), I just think it's really unnecessary for this film. Pretty much EVERYONE and their grandma has seen this film at least once, especially considering how often it's on TV, and particularly around the holidays. Adding something to the cover that really has nothing to do with the film, just to try and shift a few more units? I dunno. It's not heinous or anything, obviously, just seems a little, I dunno...weasely, I guess.

I don't mind the artwork, but you make some good points. Lots of people know the lines in this film by heart and it shouldn't be so obviously marketed as a Christmas film, people know it like a book, which we all know it's a Thanksgiving holiday film. Oh well, what can you do, studios are out to make money and not do the perfect coverart for fans and those who love the film.

I'm still waiting for the Requiem For A Dream Ass to Ass edition.

I remember on some DVD blog (probably this one) a long time ago there was a discussion on the ridiculous titles Paramount was giving it's special edition comedies (Bueller, Bueller edition, Holy Schnikie edition, Don't Call Me Shirley edition) and I jokingly suggested the "Those Aren't Pillows" edition for this movie, thinking they would never actually do it. How wrong I was.

I didn't know that. I own that edition(with an Alan Ruck autograph).
That will never leave my collection then.

Odd that there's only one deleted scene - even on the theatrical trailer, there is at least one piece that isn't in the final cut (it's the one with John Candy doing an Elvis impersonation in the mirror whilst holding a hairbrush).
This is pretty disappointing stuff.

I have no idea why people like this movie so much! I really suffered through it.

It's one of my favourite John Candy movies but 'Summer Rental' is tops for some reason on my list. The John candy movie I can't stand but everyone seems to love is 'Uncle Buck'.

I'm getting this stupidly-named EDITION since I don't own the film yet. But the cover's pretty awful. I hate the light green at the top.

How many of us have wanted to get as mad as Steve's character does with the car rental lady and say what's really bothering us????
