Never seen this one but I always here good things about it. Might Have to pick this one up.
Dissapointing release. I hope the documentary is about the making of the film and not poltergeists in general. Otherwise it's an even more dissapointing release.
Is the video remastered? because if it is not...no sale!

Based on the description, I'm going to bet on the latter. Very disappointing.

Funny how the 25th Anniversary edition isn't a 2-disc set? I mean, the film is a horror classic -- doesn't it deserve a new restoration, commentary, an isolated score track, and all the goodies that used to grace the good old DVDs Warner used to do?
They've dropped the ball on this film and "The Twilight Zone: The Movie" in terms of extras. Come on, Warners, do better than this paltry offering of extras!

While this is a definite buy for me, I too am disappointed in the lack of extras. You'd think a 25th anniversary edition of anything would include so much more.
I'm guessing no extras are included on the Twlight Zone: The Movie dvd because no one wants to address the tragedy that occured. Maybe in the case of Poltergeist, no one wants to address the untimely deaths of two of the film's stars or any of that "the production was cursed" nonsense. Still, a Laurent Bouzereau type would've done a more than respectable number on both of these.

Stupid cocksucking Warner. Snapper cases and now barebones deluxe editions? Do they know what f**king "deluxe" means? This is the release I've been waiting for since DVDs came out, and it is in dire need of a video cleanup. And what do they do? S**t in my mouth.
Such a classic. Such a disappointment. Guess we will wait for the 26th, 28th, 30th and 50th Anniversary Editions before we get to the goods...
Always a great cover/poster, though! Classic.

A 25th anniversary edition should have a lot of potential. Interviews and commentary from Spielberg, Hooper, and the cast. Special effects featurettes....and seeing how a lot of the cast members from the trilogy are dead, they should have a "Death Curse" featurette. I will not double-dip for what they have here.
That case looks a bit more substantinal that just an Amary or snapper.
Maybe a vinyl wrap or slipcase?

Finally, by the end of this year my Spielberg filmography will REALLY be complete! (I know he didn't direct this film, but it is one of the few screenplays he's made). I was hoping for a two-disc special edition, too, but I take what I can get. I just hope Spielberg and Tobe Hooper both show up for the making-of doc. If not, then I too will shout out some Warners scorn . . .
I did some research and it seems there might be a worthwile Poltergeist edition out there. I will have to track it down.
"A six disc prototype, from the abandoned 20th Anniversary Special Edition, surfaced on Ebay a few years ago and still crops up from time to time. Special features included the The First Real Ghost Story and The Making of Poltergeist featurettes, screenplay, several photo galleries and Fangoria interviews, and the documentaries E! True Hollywood Story, Hollywood Ghost Stories and Terror in The Aisles. The 6th disc was a copy of the original motion picture soundtrack by Jerry Goldsmith."

not very good features...would have loved for atleast one commentary...no sale for me

You're right, there's practically none. On the back art of "The Twilight Zone: The Movie", it touts having a remastered picture and 5.1 surround, but the only special feature listed is the theatrical trailer. So yeah, Warners really screwed the pooch with their "Poltergeist" and "Twilight Zone" releases.

mlcm - I feel your pain bro. Warners doesn't even give you a chapters insert anymore. I don't understand why companies stopped doing inserts, but they'll jam the package with bulls**t coupons and flyers for c**p you don't want. Give us some decent extras, or don't have the balls to call it delux, special, or collector's edition.
The best haunted house film of all time. It's about time this got the Special Edition treatment.
I have the MGM/UA S.E. CAV Laserdisc Edition from the early 90's & there wasn't too many special features on that except a very creepy international trailer that I hope will be on this DVD release, a U.S. trailer that isn't scary at all & the usual 20 minute studio making of (boring!).
Either way this is a definite improvement from the c**p original WB release.

i think yr gonna be dissapointed then, from my understanding it's about 'real' poltergeists. any yeah, that is one c**ppy sepecial edition, not often that the WB falters, but this looks like one of 'em

What making-of doc? :\

Wow what a huge let down! I saw this and got instantly exited, this is a great movie, but its a joke to call this DVD any sort of "edition" seeing as it only has one lame special feature. My region 2 snap case won't be replaced anytime soon!
Most disappointing release EVER! Not even a 2 disc set. So the 2 docus can only be 30 min combined atleast. This is just absurd and a slap in the face for the fans of this classic masterpiece
WB up yours!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WB up yours!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
At least they could have given us DTS track. Really think the movie call for it.
Good movie, S**tty DVD. Will wait a bit longer.....for the 'Scary as f**k' Edition!
is this the final details? cuz i remmeber when the news surfaced a few months ago that an anniversary edition was indeed coming, they said it was a 2 disc , and this was from the WB people on some video message board thingy saying this.
but i never bought this and its a cheap price so i'll be sad and get this anyway..lol least its the original cover and font, thats a plus for me...
oh and that Documentary....i remmeber fangoria or something mentioning they filmed new interviews with jobeth williams and craig t. nelson...so while it probably will focus more on the real stuff...it'll probably still have some movie talk in there
other sites are reporting that there's a making of featurette also included....sure its just ONE extra thing but least its something..lol

Not a good way to remember the 25th anniversary - where are the extras? Where is the cleaned up transfer?
Shame!
Shame!
Warner really dropped the ball on this 1.
I've been waiting for this, well... Forever!
To say I'm disappointed with the overall package would be an understatement.

Funny how there's a mention of the audio being re-mastered, but nothing on the video which is actually in need of it based on the original release.
Guess all of Warner's budget went into making the insanely indepth Blade Runner set.
