I SO need to get myself a Blu-ray player. I'm missing out on all the classics!
They're here.

what the hell happened there?
since this blu-ray just replicates that 25th anniv. dvd i wont be getting it but its still a great movie and i hope that stuff is eventually released on a proper version.
I agree. I was so happy when they announced the S.E. and then we got this... Not gonna upgrade my dvd for the new DVD edition or the Blu-ray. If we ever get a 2 disc edition on DVD or a BR with the same extra's i'll buy it.

I concur with the above comments, I'm happy with my vanilla dvd until a proper S.E comes out. Even Duel got a nice interview with Mr Spielberg.
Wheres Laurent Bouzereau when you need him.
Poltergeist is a classic film which I love. I can't believe its being remade. How the hell can those hacks improve on this movie.

As I understand it, the documentary went in-depth into the whole "who really directed it" question, and one of the parties involved tried blocking the DVD (I'm going to guess that Tobe Hooper didn't come out looking too good, but I might be wrong). They'd committed to a release date so just dumped half the extras rather than delaying the DVD past the "25th anniversary" date.
It's a shame, and I'm still holding off for a decent edition myself.

Even if they had to ditch what they were trying to do, they could've added the True Hollywood Story special, as well as the old featurette (which plays once in a blue moon on TCM). No excuse whatsoever to the 'SE' being s**tty.
Anything You can do...

It's like asking the same thing of the 2-disc Special Edition of Mad Max 2 (The Road Warrior), where a hell of a lot of interviews and documentaries were knocked up for the definitive release, but didn't come to anything. The circumstances are the same, as the remastered print for Mad Max 2 was brought out on BluRay, with virtually no extras to speak of, and the material is just languishing somewhere.
You have to wonder about an audio commentary with both Tobe Hooper & Spielberg (OK, he doesn't do them...) with Hooper getting loaded on Shiner beer as the two of them claim which pieces of the movie is their own.
Watching the movie again recently, you can't deny that SS's prints are all over it, with the look and feel of ET running right though it. There are rumours that Hooper was only "allowed" to direct the scare sequences, and these seem authentically Hooper. Character-wise, the cast seems motiviated in a manner which wouldn't seem out of place in Close Encounters or Jaws. We've all heard the story that Hooper was only brought in once Spielberg had set up all the shots, blocked out the action and spoken to the actors, with Tobe wheeled on to say "action" and "cut".
But Hooper must have had some creative control before SS took over, as he cast Lou Perryman in a small role - LG from TCM 2 & assistant cameraman on TCM.

A great upgrade IF all the extras for the 25th are on this - which I doubt...
BD is still very expensive - even though that is a SRP there - for the older flicks.
