well the movie was alright, not very disappointing. I was hoping it would have a dts sound too it. the double disc really doesn't have that much. I thought maybe warner bros would have two seperate covers for the single and double disc.
I got the two disc set last week, it comes with a rather pleasent holographic slipcase too !!
I saw this in the cheap theatres recently and enjoyed it a lot more than I expected, I liked it enough to buy the 2 disc edition. I like the inclusion of the History Channel doc on rogue waves. They should have used different artwork for the single disc and the 2 disc editions.

"Superman Returns" wasn't that thrilling. It was more boring than exciting.

No deleted scenes? I am not buying!

I never saw this at the theater, but I liked the old version... I will definately get this.
Menus added...
I read that A LOT was cut from this film, and there were scenes in the trailer that weren't in the finished product. I talked to a few people who had seen test screenings for "Poseidon" and they said it was much better than what was released. I'd be interested in seeing those scenes. Like I mentioned earlier, I didn't care for this movie. There were a few good scenes, but I'd hardly be looking forward to the DVD and bonus material if it weren't for Emmy Rossum. For her alone, I want to see what was cut!
I can't wait until August 22. I saw it three times in the theater and absolutely loved it. I will be getting the two-disc set as well as "Beyond the Poseidon Adventure" which comes out the same day for the first time on DVD. Thanks Warner Brothers!
I'm down for the 2 Disc Set Also.
sweet
im getting the 2 discs
im getting the 2 discs
I will probably buy the 2-disc movie as well. I, too, thoroughly enjoyed the movie. There are worse things you could spend your hard earned money on at the theatre...glad I got a free pass to see Fantastic Four...
Like others here, I am very disappointed in the lack of commentary. I could've sworn Josh Lucas mentioned in an interview that he and the other actors had done a commentary track for the DVD release. I'm also displeased that the deleted scenes have not been included. I smell an expanded director's cut coming soon. I wouldn't worry about the high SRP though. You won't be paying that full-price at most retail outlets. In fact you won't pay that from say Columbia House...

I did see this, and it was just okay. I liked all the performances, but it just wasn't strong enough for me, not enough tension. Might've been the poor volume level at the theatre, but it just didn't thrill me enough. I'm going to watch the original tonight for the first time. I might just rent this remake to give it a proper audio experience at home, but the features seems a little thin. I wonder how long the featurettes on the actual film are. If they're just 20-30 minute fluff pieces, this isn't much of a special edition. Though, I couldn't ask much considering the low box office (would've liked a commentary track with Kurt Russell among others).

Well, the more successful films only have a 4-5 month window between theatrical release and their DVD release - "V for Vendetta", "Batman Begins", "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire", "The Chronicles of Narnia", and so forth.
The problem with your theory here is that both the Skeleton Key and King Kong made more than their production budgets. Though not as successful as the studio would have wanted, these can hardly be considered flops are even failures. The only real bust out of that group was Bridget Jones that only made $45 million on a $70 million budget.

Does that date include the inevitable trilogy box set? I haven't heard anything about it but I know it's coming...

Yeah, well, most of the movies that get quick DVD releases are the ones that bombed at the box office or failed to light up the box office. "A non-stop action film that doesn't come up for air" - what a load of drivil - are people sure it's the critic that comes up with these?
Good to see they are releaseing a single and double disc edition at the same time - even if the movie is cr*p

Why doesnt Wolfgang do commentaries anymore?? Troy didnt have one either, kind of lame.
I dont remember the wave being that big in the movie! lol That cover is a little to over the top.

I got my own personal screening of Poseidon. No one else in the theater with me! It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

The cover is realy unatractive... And there where so many nice theatrical posters for this movie.
The movie itself is a nice thrill ride. A nice if unsurprising disaster movie... No oscar material... Witch isn't it's goal anyway.
I can't believe they're not having deleted scenes, when there was at least 20 minutes of them...
Double dip anyone ?

I liked this movie alot. I'm getting the 2-disc. They shouldn't use practically the same cover for both though. It would be cool if there was a lenticular slipsleeve for the 2disc set. Kinda like The Day After Tomorrow.
Its the big f**king yellow searchlight which p**ses me off the most about the cover. There are hardly any extras and they are so blah.
I too am absolutely astounded people liked, even loved this film. It truely was a horrible remake, in my opinion. One of the worst films of the year, just a boring mess of a movie that felt like they shot the whole thing in badley lit office buildings that were trashed and flooded.
This is c**p.
This is c**p.
I'm surprised to hear so many people here loved it since I've heard it sucked from most.
That cover art is c**ppy.
I'll rent it, even though I thought both The Perfect Storm and The Day After Tomorrow sucked. I doubt I'll care much for this one either.

This movie was absolutely TERRIBLE.
I went into this movie expecting another hillarious Wolfgang Peterson film, such as "Troy". Unfortunetly this movie was just boring...awful and boring.
I'm expecting X-Men to be officially announced next week - don't hold me to that though
I liked it 'cause I knew what to expect, not like my friends 'cause they never saw disaster movies like the original,Earthquake or Towering Inferno...

This could have been an amazing remake if they only added more charecter development. That was a huge strength of the original, you really cared about the people and who lived or died. With "Poseidon" its like, ok whatever, he/she died, ok whoes next. They really dumded it down for this generation. Someone please agree with me.

Exactly! It was a summer action movie. In that aspect it delivered, and delivered greatly. As far as the cover design, they should've gone with the theatrical poster, it looks way better than this one.

The cover reminds of a special edition of a cheesy 70's movie, with the pic lookin like a painting and big horrible font. But it don't matter cos I f**king love this movie (I saw it 3 times) and I will be picking up the 2 disc edition.
Nowhere as good as the original... And no Shelley Winters. I don't know how they could make such a boring remake of The Poseidon Adventure, still the ultimate disaster movie after all that time...
Maybe when it's on clearance... for the specials.

I'll give a rent. I wasn't really interested until I heard good stuff about it from family and friends.

Man that cover is poopie.
This movie was good. I really, really enjoyed it. It had tons of clostrophobic scenes in it....lol.
I also felt it could have been longer, but it was still good none-the-less.

Its was ok, was not all that. To be honest went to see it, I felt some stuff was edited out could have been longer probably was. When you see it you well know what I mean, I'll buy it when comes out on HD-DVD for sound and picture. Other then that very some what disappointing movie.
I thought the movie was good fun so I'll definately be getting the 2 disc. But yeah I also think the 2 covers should be a bit more different than just adding 2 Disc to the top of it!
Why not use the one-sheet? That cover is downright BAD.
No commentary or deleted scenes on the 2 disc set? I sense a big double dip comming!
Haven't seen it yet. I was actually hoping to see it in IMAX, but never got around to it. I'll probably rent this one, then buy the 2 disc if I like it. Anyways, am I the only one who's disappointed that they're using almost the exact same artwork, except for the bar at the top. Usually Warner is good at coming up with different art for the two versions (I think the only one that has the same is Harry Potter, but they at least had a silver frame around the art for the SE, except mine which has a special holographic cover that I got at Future Shop). And isn't the price for the SE a little steep, when they started this type of releasing both a single and double disc versions, the price difference was only about a buck (I actually think when I got Batman Begins both versions were the same price), but now a $7 difference, that's going translate into a big price gap that usually only Universal releases have (such as King Kong and War of the Worlds).
I'm gonna get it just so I can add one more movie to my measely "disaster flick" section. With this and the 15 anniverary edition of Backdraft, that'll only make 5.

If you think "Poseidon" was one of the best movies of the year you should see the original "The Poseidon Adventure", that is way better than this remake. I loved the original and found the remake to be just ok. It took all the heart out of it and made it just an action movie, but overall it was nice to see the story get the special effects it deserves.
I will be picking up the DVD for reference, just to have the two to compare. The Two-Disc Special Edition looks decent. I like the cover for the 2-disc set, but I wish it was different for the standard DVD. Whatever.
My rating for:
"The Poseidon Adventure" (1972)- 9/10
"Poseidon" (2006)- 6/10

through the trailers of this film I could already depict that it was going to be a very bad Wolfgang Peterson film and it is.
its the perfect storm meets day after tomorrow.

The making of docs will probably be better than the movie itself.
The cover art sucks. Warner should stick to using the posters used to advertise the film as the DVD art. The one-sheet poster (with the ship being upside down) looked so much better than this.
I hope Warner doesn't botch the DVD art for "Superman Returns" -- if they do, I'm going be p**sed.

A little warning for those of you that plan on getting the 2 Disc edition of this movie - you may want to hold out a while... this movie made less than 60 million domestically with a budget of over 160 million - I'd bet on double, triple, hell maybe even quadruple dips of this one.
Great adventure
C'mon, as an adventure movie it is good, so to me that's what really matters. But just the fact of seing Fergie (or "Stacy Ferguson" as the opening credits) being dragged through the ballroom makes it worthy. The only thing that would make it even better is if Paris Hilton were there too...
I agree with chris burge... I thought I was the only person who liked this movie. So far, it's one of my favorites of 2006. I am disappointed it wasn't a box office winner... Oh well. This is a must-own for me... I'll get the 2-disc for sure!
Wow. I'm glad so many people like or loved this movie. I thought I was the only one.

Lots of fans for this movie I see. I was completely underwhelmed - an unnecesary remake with ok special effects. Yes, it was considered a box office disappointment.
