As far as the UKBD goes and despite Disney having the nerve to shout (on the back cover) 'a bounty of extras', there's b****r all here. A Gag reel, a Timon & Pumbar 3D promo and a commentary hardly amount to 'a bounty', particularly when compared with the first 3 films on BD. Very poor.
And the PQ isn't a patch on any of the first 3 films either. Films shot on RED ONE cameras can looks fantastic but there are so many scenes set in the dark, I can't imagine this looked any good in 3D.
And it lacks any sense of fun or imagination. As baggy and shambolic as the first 3 were, the 4th is a misguided pile of old toot. Showing how Sparrow plans his way out of situations is missing the point and the reason people liked him as a character in the first place. He needs to wander into a scene and miraculously escape. We don't need to see him moving chairs around, working it all out.
Unless they get Gore Verbinski back for any more, they won't achieve the same silly highs of 1 or 2 or the absurd images from Davy Jones' locker in 3. All fears about Rob Marshall directing were well founded. Not saying he's incompetent, just ill suited for this sort of thing.

In other words, some may not like it just by default but it brings back the simplicity and fun of the original.
Give me one good reason why POTC: On Stranger Tides is the second best? Plot-wise, it was the most uninvolving, character-wise, was the most flat, and in terms of cinematography, the most uninviting. Here's my ranking:
1) Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl- 3.5/5 (pretty good/fairly decent)
2) Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest- 3/5 (could've been worse/not the best)
3) Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End- 3/5 (eh, still not too bad, but DMC gets the point)
4) Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides- 2.5/5 (just plain boring)
Okay, first of all they were just stating their opinion. I didn't see any mention of them looking for yours. Second you ask them to give you a good reason as to why this movie is second best, when they already stated that "it it brings back the simplicity and fun of the original", which I completely agree with. Furthermore, I don't think any of us are interested in your ranking of the movies. I don't see why you seem to think your opinion matters over anyone else here.

If they would only make the movie more about Blackbeard vs. Barbossa vs. Sparrow (Pirate-Mania X!), make it the main story instead of the back story, dispense with the fountain of youth thing...I think they really would have something. In his scenes, Macshane was good, but I wish they'd give him more. I enjoyed it, but considering the potential...it could have been much more.
So no standalone DVD version??? I also don't own a Blu ray player and only wish to own this on DVD. Guess I'll wait until one of the video stores around here sell it previously viewed.
Why is all studio care about is blue ray I guess I am the only one who doesn't own a blue ray player
I'll see it again even though I thought the film was a pretty empty affair
I have a question.
What's on the DVD?
Okay, I'm willing to buy that DVD+Blu-Ray combo - if the DVD has the same extras that are on Blu. But I'm getting the feeling that all the bonuses will be on Blu and a bare bones DVD. If that's the case, I'll pass.

I think it restored the fun of the original and kept the plot simple enough and i think involving. The second and third films got way too long and plot heavy. Too many characters running around
This movie was boring & was it me, or did the Spainiards look like Prince & the Revolution?

Am I the only one who thinks this was announced super early? It's not even off theaters yet! Not complaining though!
I liked this better than the third one, but not as much as the first two.
I plan on getting the Blu-ray + DVD. That's an awful cover. Just Jack Sparrow? Really? Let's not match the rest of the series or anything (oh, only for the other two releases). Another cover I've seen for the Blu-ray + DVD is just a black backdrop with the Pirates skull symbol, which is equally lame.

I don't think so. The problem with On Stranger Tides is that it's lifeless. It's just sort of going through the motions. It's never as exciting as the best stuff in the first three get.

What a great cover! This movie is still doing well in theaters, so I'm going to see it before the Blu-ray comes out. People say it's the worst of the series, but, hey, you don't see any other good pirate films out there. And I'll watch anything with Johnny Depp and Penelope Cruz! Hopefully I'll catch this before they remove it from theaters.
It's pretty easily the worst movie of the series, but sort of okay.
For those who want to buy this movie, you might want to hold your horses since Disney already plan to make another trilogy of this franchise. Besides, no matter how awful it is, it's a financial success, so there is no doubt that two more of these will follow and we'll get another Trilogy Box Set.
Gemma Ward seems to be Amanda Syefried's Doppelganger my Mom thought she was her during the Mermaid attack sequence.
Easily the weakest of the franchise in my opinion. Geoffrey Rush still manages ti shine though.
I honestly thought Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides wasn't the best Pirates movie and the series does get a bit worse. Everything was only okay until it got to the end - the ending sucked. I'll probably get this but since I have the other three on DVD, it's most likely that I will get the Blu-Ray Combo Pack in DVD packaging. Or better yet since I know that Disney always gives the option of Combo Packs in either Blu-Ray or DVD packaging for certain films, this might mark the first Disney movie that I will get on a Combo Pack in DVD packaging. Oh well!!!
This is a series of movies that I can't help but absolutely love despite knowing they're bad movies. I haven't seen this, but it's safe to assume I'll know it's s**t and love it all the same.
Also, I don't know what's with all the negativity toward the third one, specifically. Yes, it's a bad movie, but it's not like the previous ones were really any good. Far as I'm concerned, they're just good music, funny jokes and big action, and the third film delivered the most of that.

I like the cover art and the movie was fairly enjoyable, much better than second and third but still not sure how much I'd watch it over and over.
I'm curious to see what the "Never-Before-Seen Short Film" they speak of, and that chest is cool, but I already own the other three separately. I'll probably end up blind-buying the standard Blu + DVD pak.
I never got around to seeing it, and although I've heard nothing but mediocre things, I still think it'll be fun. I'm still irked that I didn't see this opening weekend like I did with the other three...

"Pirates of the Caribbean: On Strange Tides" was mediocre at mest. The action was repetitive, the performances were dull, and the story was as thin as paper. I'm all up for mindless big action movies, but when your action is uninteresting and your characters go nowhere, then you know you have a problem.
And also, Rob Marshall boasted about how the film was "shot" in 3D. He can boast all he wants but the 3D was murky, gritty, and just unnecessary. It was actually a pain to watch. Thank God for the DBOX. At least that made some of the experience fun.
I really wanted to like this movie so I can own the Blu-ray 3D and be in awe of its greatness, but unfortunately this movie is not good enough to buy. At all. A rental will suffice. And I'm not a POTC hater, the first one was fun and the second wasn't too bad, but these movies just keep getting worse.

very cool box set. i haven't watched any of these movies (i can't STAND Johnny Depp's acting. he seems like a nice guy though! LOL) but this one looked cool due to the mermaid fx.
thats a cool box set and with all the waste of spaces known as digital copies, you can just throw those out and add any future movies they make. though i already own the first 3 so i cannot do this but its still pretty. lol
i just saw this movie last weekend, it was pretty good. nothing awesome or amazing but a good night at the movies. it was also my 2nd 3D experience after Avatar and its still an effect thats silly and pointless and loses its impact or noticeability after 20-30mins.

Drowning in a river of urine might be mildly preferable to ending your life in a river of excrement, but both are just as bad.
One of us saw a 2D presentation in a packed cinema, and the other one of 3 people in a 3D screening. Guess which was during the first few days of release...
